Summary
There is a coyote who follows John Egan through the scrublands of New Mexico. A pale-eyed, pale-furred, washed-out shape against the desert night. Limbs too long and paws dexterous as it lopes just out of sight. Sometimes it stood upright, mouth lolling open wet and pink and full of teeth. Sometimes it is a man too, still furred and broken-limbed but with a maw that could almost form words and hips that narrowed delicately.
It is never human, but sometimes it is a man.

This is really and truly a *VERY LONG* comfort piece. A very, very long comfort piece, maybe even a psychological profile of their relationship. There are so many (fantastically written) tragic stories on here involving these two, and I love reading those, don't get me wrong, but I wanted to make one that was devoid of any and all heartbreak.Series

Eugene doesn’t know what he wants from Snafu. Closure, maybe, but the thought of saying goodbye is bitter, acidic, rising in his throat like vomit. He never wants to say goodbye, and he hopes that may be why Snafu never woke him on the train. If he can find him, he wants to hold him close, never lose him again.
He feels the weight of his Bible in his bag like a grenade in hand.

But Richard Winters watched Lewis Nixon. To be fair, he watched everyone; quiet observation was how he moved through life. But he found himself watching Nixon more closely the more he saw, as if more information gave him only more questions and never any answers. But his self-destructive bender gets interrupted by Charlie Blackwood, showing up to invite him to participate in a brand-new weapons development program, codename Top Gun: the first two-pilot jaegers to ever be deployed in the fight to defend humanity. That means Maverick's going to have to get back in a piloting rig again—and he's going to have to do it while drifting with another pilot. Drift compatibility means getting each other, understanding each other, on a level nobody else can beat; so whoever his partner is, at least he's not going to get stuck with the Iceman, who pretty much hates him.
