“Oh, Dan.” Glowing, bleeding thrill. “What have we done?”

Daniel Cain and Herbert West are inexplicably living with one another after the events of Re-Animator when their experiments seem to attract the attention of someone. A very dumb someone with a chainsaw. Coincidentally, Ash Williams is in town! Dan Cain being lonely and unsubtle about it ensues, Herbert is basically pissy the whole time. They all pork.
(Title is a quote from the Curse of Frankenstein, even though these movies are mostly paying homage to the Universal Frankensteins, Herbert is much closer to the Peter Cushing flavor of mad scientist)

"Can’t you see, Dan? We can achieve so much more than we have. Whatever happiness you have deluded yourself into pursuing is nothing compared to our work.” Herbert said as if he never even heard him, shoving Dan aside and retrieving the vial of reagent from his coat pocket, “THIS is what matters.”
And there it was again. That one talk about the importance of work and how they were making history. Dan could feel his thoughts drifting off to the many times when the very same conversation occurred, that strong sense of deja vu threatening to breach his mind and give him another headache.
“You’re jealous.” He finally said. That broke Herbert out of his long monologue.
“What?”
“You were jealous.”

The first time Dan easily brushed it off as a one time incident, the second time it was becoming just a little annoying, by the fifth time Dan finally confronted his roommate about his habit of getting in the way of his dates, and he never would've guessed what came out of it.
