Mydei considers him carefully for a long moment. An unreadable look crosses his face before he shakes it off. "You are hopeless," he says quietly.
Phainon smiles, a smaller but no less genuine expression. Mydei's gaze snaps to his lips, and Phainon revels in the knowledge that his eyes haven't left him once, even after their battle ended. He hums happily. "Perhaps so."

The sight was downright baffling: Mydei’s usually ill-tempered cat rubbing against the leg of his one-night-stand, purring up a storm. Mydei could do nothing but grasp for the only reasonable conclusion: “You have a cat too.”
“I don’t, actually.”
“Some other pet then?”
“No…”
“Any experience with animals at all?” Mydei asked, a bit incredulous.
Phainon blinked. “I fed my neighbour’s goldfish for a week when I was eight?”
Mydei looked to their feet, where Fig Stew was now winding between Phainon’s ankles in crystal-clear affection. Nikador, he thought, in slight disbelief. Tell me I didn’t somehow sleep with the only human in Amphoreus who my cat happens to like.
Mydei has a routine. Said routine does not involve his cat falling in love with his gym-rival-with-benefits. (Especially not when it’s starting to make Mydei fall for him a little, too.)

For a little while, things were quiet again. Phainon was just getting back into the data sets.
And then Mydei spoke.
“Hey.”
Phainon hummed absently, still typing.
“Want me to give you a facial?”
Phainon’s hands froze on the keyboard. Slowly, very slowly, he turned his head.
“What.”Phainon’s midterms are slowly killing him. Sleep is scarce, his workload is worse, and his only constant is Mydei, who has a talent for offering the most suspicious things at the worst possible time.
As it turns out, Mydei just meant skincare. Phainon, having harbored feelings for Mydei for months now, is immensely disappointed about that.
But he isn’t disappointed for long.
