He should be glad of it. He doesn’t want people to know he’s struggling, and they don’t. But why doesn’t Buck know? He’s always known, always seen through Eddie’s carefully constructed walls and carved himself a door into them. Even when Eddie resisted, even when he pushed back, Buck ducked his head and shoved through and found the tender hurt Eddie was guarding, cupped his hands around it and held until it didn’t ache so much.
And now Eddie’s bleeding internally, swollen with regret, and Buck doesn’t say a thing. Eddie can’t ask him to. If he opens his mouth, he might just start screaming.

Buck tries to commit the frame to memory, wills himself not to forget the important details—Eddie on his knees in front of him, his nails seeking purchase along Buck's thighs as he drinks him down, his drawn-out gasps when Buck returns the favor.
After, when Buck reaches out for quiet confirmation in the dark, asks him, "Good?"
Eddie tells him, earnest and hard-won, "Everything is good with you," and Buck can bask in the illusion of a world where he almost believes it.
Buck is trying to leave the past where it belongs. Then he wins an all-expenses-paid trip to Italy, convinces Eddie to join him, and falls headfirst into (not so) casual sex with his best friend.

this is the first fic ive read since my vacay from buddie and holy shit was it worth it. it felt like a punch in the gut and a breath of fresh air at the same time, i think there’s only a few fics that i would genuinely say have hit me so hard as this one. the way eddie is written with that constant battle of what he thinks he’s allowed to have (and his sweettooth??? pls he’s adorable) and bucks grief throughout the whole fic, learning how to continue forward even when it’s so fucking hard and sometimes hopeless MY GOD JUST KILL ME ATP!! also the whole “something good” bit and the way buddie are around each other just reminded why i love them so much and why i believe in their love so much. AGAIN SO BEAUTIFUL

“Jesus.” Buck can’t breathe. He stumbles a few steps back and ends up on a wall, still staring at Eddie, in his bedroom, looking shadowed and sinuous. “That doesn’t… okay, what is going on here, Eddie?”
“You tell me,” Eddie answers, all husky, and fuck—it roars through Buck, builds in the center of him until he’s on fire.
This isn’t normal. This isn’t Eddie, and yet, Buck’s throat is dry, and his dick is hard, and all he can think is that he wants it. All he can think is that he doesn’t know how to fight this. Doesn’t know how to say no to it.
All he can think is that he wants Eddie.
