A few months after the Bandito's attempt to overthrow the bishops Torchbearer receives some secret correspondence from the new leader of Dema. It's an almost telegraphic message in which he invites him to meet him privately in the heart of the city, the highest tower, exactly where they had last seen each other. He doesn't quite know what he wants from him: maybe it's about politics, a proposal for an agreement or a truce; maybe it's about them. The only way to find out is going through the underground tunnels that lead to Dema, up those steep stairs once more and past the threshold of that cursed wooden door again. Hoping that, at least this time, the new bishop will maintain his promise: to not hurt him.
