“Okay, fine, fine.” Ray says, and he’s definitely angry now. Good, now they can both be angry. “I swear. No, how did you put it? Dumbass heroic stunts. I’ll make every effort to live. But you make the same promise, or you can’t hold me to it.” There are tears in his eyes, and Pete briefly feels like a heel.
“Ray—”
“You don’t want to lose me, fine. I’m not losing you either. We both walk away from this, or neither of us do. Promise me.”
