    Summary

    Made by me and evenpeaks on the Hunter: the Parenting fan server! Credit goes to him as much as me for this idea.

    This AU begins pretty much from two premises:
    - Marckus is a widderslainte.
    - Being kept by his mother might actually be worse for him than canon.

    His mom, Astrid, is an accomplished Etherite mage who met D and the family in late 1975, when she was in her mid-twenties. While she had a bit of a whirlwind romance with D, it rapidly went to shit, and that resulted in their unceremonious divorce (Astrid whipping out the death ray and giving D an hour to collect his things). In the canon timeline, Astrid gives the newborn Marckus to D to raise (with information for Marckus when he awakens to contact her), but in this AU, she keeps him.

    Since ideas reproduce faster than a virus in my skull, this story has multiple points of divergence. The biggest one is whether Marckus actually falls to the Caul — therefore, fics and oneshots with him as a Nephandi will be labeled with an [NE], which will hopefully be warning enough if and when he gets freaky.     This time, Hinata pulls away his hand and looks up. Komaeda isn’t looking back at him, face red like it has been rubbed raw. He is far too open, far too honest, and Hinata keeps pushing through barbed wire with bare hands in the hopes that he’ll find something, that piece of himself that Komaeda keeps hidden, something shaky and stumbling in the light of day.

     

    Komaeda goes missing for a morning. It shouldn't matter. And then it does.

     

    In which Komaeda has the emotional intelligence of roadkill, military bases have more than one use, and absolutely no one is any help at all.
