Summary
The clatter of utensils and the low drone of ambient conversation filled the air. She couldn't make out any words, everything was dulled like there was a blanket over her head. The occasional drop of water from the sink faucet would cut through the noise for a split second and then disappear again.
She was smiling, eyes focused on the girl beside her talking but she wasn't seeing, she wasn't hearing what was being said.

"I thought it was you!" The man said, far too close for comfort.
Akira turned to face him, his fingers curling tightly into the strap of his bag as he forced a smile onto his face, trying to be pleasant. The last thing he needed was another problem.
