They live there for years before Thor finally prompts the two of them to realize they are both in love with each other. It takes them less than 24 hours to get married after that. Well, they fuck first. They have their priorities in order.

The light flush turned into a seriously unhealthy blush taking over every inch of Steve’s skin and Bucky laughed at him and put both hands up. “Alright! Alright, I just thought it would be fair! You get to see my dick, I get to see yours but if you’re gonna be a Patty Prude about it, I guess I’ll just have to deal with being ogled!”
“Patty Prude?” Steve was still hot to the tip of his ears. “Thanks for that.”

Summary
Steve Rogers was not bonded to Bucky Barnes. He was not in a relationship with Bucky Barnes anymore. Bucky had no obligations towards him except a pewter ring that was so faded and rusted that hung on his dog tags. Bucky had no promises to break, because he didn't remember them. Steve was okay with that, he really was. He would have to be, because Bucky wasn't his anymore to have. Instead, Bucky was Natasha's to cherish and Steve was not going to stand in his way.
Steve was going to let Bucky go, even if it killed him and even if his heart was shattering into a million pieces to see his best friend--his soul mate--be in a relationship with someone else.

The world ended, un-ended, and now they've got all these Infinity Stones and nowhere to put them.
Steve says he wants to retire and raise some kids. Bucky does the stupid thing and assumes that means Steve's leaving him to go live with Peggy in the past, to have a family with her, but he doesn't say shit about it because he thinks that that would somehow be better for Steve. This all gets wrapped up in a big ugly bow of internalized homophobia that Bucky has actually been carrying for a while. Steve got the serum and all his illnesses were cured. Should've worked on the gay shit, too, Bucky keeps thinking.
Steve would like Bucky to cut that assuming shit out. It's frustrating and a tad bit offensive. Like, what the fuck did Bucky think "To the end of the line" meant?

The Soldier has killed presidents and priests, drug lords and diplomats, people with small armies to protect them and people who could make him break a sweat as they fought for their lives. He has shaped the century.
These are facts, not memories.
But he knows this is nothing, this mission. Follow a lone man around the city. Break into his apartment. Watch and observe.
“Yes,” he says.
“Guess Pierce was right. This is ironic. Fucking poetic even.” Rumlow snorts. “Barnes is a supersoldier. You’re the only one who can take care of him, isn’t that right, Cap?”
That is not the Soldier’s designation. He nods anyway.

Bucky smirks at them and sips his coffee.
Steve, with his natural brilliant timing, steps out of the elevator at that exact moment. All heads swivel in his direction, eyebrows raised. He blinks at everyone’s faces of blatant speculation, blushes, and looks at Bucky in confusion.
“Reeaaallllly worth it,” Bucky adds.
“Congratulations on sexually satisfying your partner, Steven!” Thor booms, and raises his coffee mug in toast.

Steve met Bucky’s gaze. He could draw Bucky for days, paying attention to every little detail; the way he smiled, the taste of his laugh and the sun in his hair, the way he let it loose after a shower and tied it up neatly for a mission, the way he held Steve close, spoke softly in his ear, made him feel like a princess. He bit his lip shyly at the thought of that.
“Princess,” Steve said finally, small, desperate, “I…want to be Daddy’s princess, please.”
Bucky’s smile was brighter than ever, a loving, sweet thing. His reaction was instant, “oh baby, sweetheart, of course you are. Kitten, you’ve always been Daddy’s princess.”
