Summary
His body feels strange. There had been many scenarios vivid in his mind when he had woven his Teleportation spell with shaking fingers, but he finds himself realizing that somehow, all of them had included Caleb putting his hands on Essek’s shoulders.
Caleb, concerned and serious, a tenseness to his brow as he reinforces his wards and asks Essek if he was followed. Caleb, frustration in the set of his jaw, asking Essek why he had not come sooner. Caleb, soft-mouthed, guiding him to the closest chair.
When the room instead is quiet and dark, and then keeps staying quiet and dark, he finds it suddenly difficult to keep standing.

He misses the immediacy of that threat, prefers it over the slow and indulgent terror of whatever punishment is coming for him, someday soon.
He tells himself that he misses only that, the simplicity of being unsafe in the company of predators, and that he does not miss the company itself.

Beneath his current disguise of shabbily clad tiefling, he is wearing a stylish coat after the fashions of Rosohna, dark blue lined with dove gray, and a new shirt and trousers carefully tailored to his measurements. He takes a deep breath and tucks his hair behind his ears, fingers tightening around the bouquet of bright yellow sunflowers he’s clutching like a lifeline.

When alien life entered our world it was from the deep beneath the Lucidian Ocean, a fissure between two tectonic plates. A portal between the dimensions, a breach.
To fight the Kaiju wreaking havoc on the world, mankind created monsters of their own. The Jaeger Program was implemented. Jaeger. Zemnian for hunter. Monsters designed to put these otherworldly abominations back in their place.
One pilot couldn’t handle the neural load to pilot the Jaegers alone, so a two pilot system was implemented, one on the left side, one on the right. The two pilots had to link their minds to work in perfect synchronous harmony to ensure that the mechs could run properly. With technology being advanced from cooperation and a worldwide ceasefire to stop this problem, the Pan Lucidian Defense Corps was born.
