Keith took a deep breath before speaking up again, “Didn’t I fucking tell you to disappear?”
At that Lance’s heart – the one that he only just seemed to have glued back – shattered.
“I-I just-”
“No! LEAVE! You are NOT him! He was there for me! And you…” he exhaled, “Honestly, who do you think you are? Did you think I’ll just wait for you forever? That I’ll sit patiently and wait for you to finally pull out the stick you have up your ass, and…”
Lance didn’t know what to say, and so he didn’t. Keith on the other hand went on.
“All I want from you, is to disappear! You are not Shiro. You will never be half the man he ever was.”
The boy pushed himself up and out of Lance’s arms. And Lance let him go.

Alternatively : Lance and Keith are childhood friends but they got separated for 5 years. A misunderstanding makes it so their next encounter isn't sweet. It isn't even bittersweet. It's just bitter. Lance couldn’t help the bewildered look on his face, still she went on “your ego took a hit this morning so you decided to just go somewhere to brood” and that got Lance to shut up. His ego? A story of missed opportunities and regrets, yet still, somehow everything ends up okay.
Aternatively: Lance feels like the 7th wheel and misses Keith, the team doesn't help in the slightest. Lance doesn't want to appear weak so he doesn't say anything, and lets his friends talk down on him. His friends' words hurt his mind and soul, that is until they actually lead to something much worse.
But maybe one person can change everything. Wonder who that one might be?

Summary
Keith expects Pidge, or even Allura, to act rashly or emotionally and compromise a mission - he has done it himself before, more times than he can count. But Hunk and Lance are the ones to always reign the others in when Keith can't. Lance keeps them in line, keeps them together and working as a unit. Lance calmly talks them through whatever issues arise and reasonably comes to a compromise with them, and takes on more of the burden of leadership than he has to.
He's the most stable person in Keith's life.
So Keith thinks it's fair to be deeply unsettled after Lance just yanked the ground out from under him in five different directions. Keith feels like he's free falling and he just hasn't hit the ground yet.
//Lance loses his temper and comes to blows with some aliens who are derogatory towards Keith and his Galra heritage, which sabotages an important diplomacy mission.
