When Stiles’ Soulbite manifests on his neck and makes it look like he’s been mauled by an animal, he takes to spending most of his time hiding it in the preserve. It would be the perfect haven if it wasn’t for Derek Hale being such a creeper.
Or, 5 times Derek stalks Stiles in the preserve, and 1 time he stalks him in his room.

Stiles, like most people, was five-years-old when his mother gave him the necklace. Dangling from the thin silver chain was a tear-shaped pendant holding a beautiful stone. It appeared to glow from within, and as his small hand wrapped around the cool gem, he imagined it was a droplet of pure moonlight encased in glass.
“Alright, my little Mischief.” His mother smiled at the look of awe on his face. “When your soulmate is near, that pendant will start to warm, becoming hotter the closer they are."

Housemates. He actually hasn’t lived on his own…ever. He went from his dad’s house to college dorms to crowded apartments. He’s been living with Scott since they were 19, and now that they’re grown, they rent a house with two other guys they met online. There were many hours spent rifling through Craigslist before they found Derek and Isaac, but it was worth it.

Sometimes, Stiles thought about telling him. It wasn’t even a thought, but a fantasy of him kissing Derek first thing in the morning and kissing him goodnight, of not going into separate bedrooms after a tiring day. He dreamed of making that one step further and putting not only his chin on Derek’s shoulder when the wolf cooked breakfast, but his hands around Derek’s waist, dreamed of taking his hand and threading their fingers, dreamed of kisses and sex and shared life.
It wasn’t this young puppy love. It wasn’t lust, though it was there. It was a years-long, deep, chronic ache. Bittersweet. Overwhelming. Sometimes, it didn’t let Stiles breathe, and other times it was the only thing that made him do it.
Stiles’ confession would destroy them, but not Derek. Because Derek would get up and lift his chin again.
If the alpha was brave enough to cover Stiles’ body from an imminent threat, then maybe it was time for Stiles to get brave, as well. The wounds may never close, but if Derek rejected him… it wouldn’t matter.

“How many times do you want me to apologize?” he sighed, shoulders slumping as Deaton studied the runes etched into the old shackles.
Derek’s lips curled in a sneer, a growl vibrating low in his chest.
“I thought it would be funny!”
“You thought cuffing us together would be funny?”
And there it was—claws-out Derek in all his irritated glory.
“It was supposed to be you and Scott! You know, like a ‘get-along’ T-shirt. Only… cuffs.”
“And how is it,” Derek asked, yanking their joined wrists up between them, “that I ended up stuck with you?”
Stiles shifted, eyes darting away to the floor. “Scott was too fast—the lock clicked around my hand instead—look, you were there. Why do you keep making me repeat it?”
He cringed under Derek’s stare, shrinking in on himself.
“Because, Stiles,” Derek said, voice low and promising violence, “I want to make sure you’ve learned your idiotic lesson.”
Deaton straightened, expression pinched in that special brand of silent sympathy he reserved for hopeless situations. “Would you like the good news or the bad news?”
“The good news,” Stiles said just as Derek growled, “The bad news.”

Derek knows what it feels like to not really have a choice, what it's like to be manipulated. He'd never take away someone's right to choose freely. The fear of even accidentally doing so is enough to hold him back from acting on his own feelings.
Stiles has never had a problem making his own choices, and fuck anyone who would try to tell him he can't.
(Or: Stiles gets bitten by a different alpha, but of course would prefer to have Derek as his alpha. And also just, you know, have Derek.)
