“Shane.” Ilya takes Shane’s head in his hands, squeezes his cheeks so that Shane looks puffy, absurd. Beloved. “I am saying that to me, even though you are retired, you will always be No. 1 hockey player. Fuck Wayne Gretzky.”
That’s what does it, as Ilya knew it would. Shane rears back, spluttering, outraged, trying not to laugh.
“Oh, I have committed blasphemy now. They will take back my citizenship, big crime, very sad.”
Shane smoothes his hands along Ilya’s calves, rests his fingertips on Ilya’s ankles. “Fuck Wayne Gretzky,” he says. He looks like he can’t believe what he’s saying. Ilya wonders, distantly, if he can get it on tape to play back to himself when things feel particularly bleak. “We can live in exile together. I don’t care. You’re my, my best, my second best hockey player forever too.”

“Hit me,” Shane says instantly, not a moment of hesitation.
“Is your face not sore? You still want more?”
“It’s sore,” Shane answers. “Please. I want more.”
“Fuck,” Ilya hisses, and he extends his arm out, muscular and powerful, and he brings it down hard, harder than any of the previous smacks. This one makes Shane’s head reel, his entire upper half jolting in response to it. Ilya watches in concern and fascination, gauging his reaction.

He quickly dials, waiting impatiently through a few rings for an answer. He’s about to hang up and try again when the line picks up, sounding like the phone is being fumbled a little.
“Hia?”
Oh thank fuck.
“Macau- are you okay? What happened?” A thought occurs to him. “Is Pete with you?”
There’s a pause, and he catches the sound of a shuddering breath on the other end of the line. He knows the answer before Macau gives it.
“No- no he’s not."

Kissing Vegas is always good. He’s indulged in it since the hospital, since Vegas woke up and since Pete knelt over Vegas’ body as he converted right in front of him – putting all his faith in this bloody romance. Vegas kisses Pete like he’s trying to learn the shape of his tongue and teeth so he can draw it up on a map. Pete feels thoroughly exposed once Vegas is done with him, like he’s found that place where x marks the spot. He’s left panting, open-mouthed and drooling, tugging Vegas back in by his wrist so he can reveal some more of Pete to himself. He’s learning desire: how much of it lives in him, how insatiable his hunger is. Luckily, Vegas is greedy and is never done with his fill of Pete. They eat well together.

It wasn’t like the belt had been the worst of it, not by far. The electricity was definitely Pete’s least favorite part, if he was going to start ranking all the times Vegas had tortured him. And the simple endless burn in his shoulders from being chained up with barely enough slack to stand was pretty bad too. Pain was pain. Pete had taken it before and he would take it again, probably, considering their line of work. He wondered if part of why Vegas regretted these scars in particular so bitterly was because he hadn’t even enjoyed giving them. He definitely wasn’t going to say that.
He was just tired of Vegas touching him with regret. He wanted Vegas’s hands on him always, in every way, but not like that.
“Okay,” Pete said. “Then let’s change them, if it bothers you so much.”
