Milly has gotten into the habit of worrying about her superior.
Well, it has long since been known to her that Meryl would rather her not view her in that way. They’ve traveled together far too long for Milly to call her ‘Ma’am’ anymore. Honestly, she feels that she’s close enough to her not to, and she’s been referring to her as Meryl for quite some time now. But she’s gotten herself into the habit of viewing Meryl as her superior anyhow, as an ideal. Meryl’s independence, while so shocking and even a bit offensive to her when they first met, has become a quality Milly can say that she admires. This makes it all the more worrying that Milly is looking after her now. Meryl’s always done a wonderful job at taking care of herself, for such a young woman with a disadvantageous stature. And yet, Milly is carrying her on her back, as Meryl rambles drunkenly.

"Uh, hey, 'scuse me?" Nick calls out toward the kitchen.
"Sorry?" the cook asks. He comes over, and Nick gets a good look at spiky blonde hair and fathomless blue eyes framed by lashes like clock springs. "Was there something wrong?"
And okay. So Nick might have a thing for a tall blonde with a dancer's figure. A man likes what he likes. With an effort he usually reserves for life-and-death scenarios, he forces himself to smile and says, "Is this your first day?"
"No? Why do you ask?"
"I asked for my eggs over easy."
The cook glances at Nick's table, now holding six different eggs cooked three different, incorrect ways, and Nick can see in his eyes the exact moment he decides the next thing he'll say. Vash isn't human. There's so much to him that is too much, too different, too weird to be comfortable around people. Humanoid, not human. Slowly, he starts to let Wolfwood see what that means. 5 times Vash showed Wolfwood the ways he wasn't human and 1 time Wolfwood made Vash realize that didn't matter.
Or, Vash is subjected to the mortifying ordeal of being known.
