He’s seen the end of the world more than once now. Individual worlds. His own personal world. The world, even. So it comes as a bit of a shock to find that all of existence has come to an end. Actually, for real this time. No last ditch heroic efforts. No do-overs.
The greater surprise is the fact that he’s not alone.
Or: When existence ends, Sora finds that only his soul remains to travel through an abstract mosaic of grief and thought. And as it turns out, while Roxas had formed his own heart and was given his own body, the two of them continued to share one soul.

Nights in the desert were cold, far colder than what any of the Strawhat’s had anticipated, the bright stars that hung in the sky like a string of lights being the only comfort in the freezing waste. There was a certain beauty to it, the endless hills of muted blue sand and the dark sky that hovered above them like a huge dome filled with hopes and dreams. It reminded them of home, in a way.
To Ace, the stars were a garland that led directly home, but home wasn’t in the mountains with the bandits he’d once called family, nor was it the homey town bar where he’d first learned what a true sister meant to him. No, home was on board a ship with his father, where the stars were the same and the sky never doubted him. But home was also here, in this empty wasteland by his brother’s side.

She held it out. “A paper in exchange for paper, Ace told me” and their captain reached a hand out to take said paper. “He gave it to me in exchange for his vivre card, told me it was something precious to him, and that I should hold on to it until he gets back,” Yamato continued, as their captain slowly unfolded the paper. He read it.
