Turns out, there are limits to saving the galaxy and how much allowance they will give you.
Technically, I’m not court-martialed.
Yet.
They let me keep my datapad after a very thorough check that it has no capacity to connect to a network or process communications in any way. And after taking a copy of the data. I guess I should have expected that one.
It’s going to be a long, long year.

Summary
Evy does, pushing up and off the desk, taking his hand as she does. She lets Kaidan draw her into him, lets him kiss their joined hands.
This doesn’t feel entirely real, like all too soon she will wake up in another timeline where Mars didn’t happen, where the Reapers aren’t here, and Evy is on house arrest with no way of checking in on those she cares for. That if she closes her eyes, Kaidan will be gone. That they somehow didn’t find their way back to each other.

After Kaidan treats her to lunch at Apollo's -- a sanity check they both needed -- they find their way back to the Normandy to take advantage of the later benefits he promised.

Kaidan hums, a comforting, familiar sound that makes her heart ache. “Do you want to talk about it?”

Unable to find rest, Shepard's hiding out in the observatory, hoping exhaustion will get the better of her eventually. She doesn't expect to be disturbed, but then the door opens and in walks Kaidan. Hours earlier, she stared him down, thwarting the Cerberus coup. Now?
Now she faces the fact he is here, because he wants to be.

He wanted to hold her and whisper encouragements into her hair, to lend her whatever was left of his own strength. She deserved respite after everything she’d just accomplished, she had the right to be tired, and she had the right to rest. He would tell her all that if he could be sure she’d want him to.
“Shepard,” he said her name.
She looked at him. “Yeah?”
He would tell her all that, he’d give it all to her, support, peace, solace, he would find a way — except it wasn’t his place. He didn’t know where they stood, and he wouldn’t dare bothering her with it now. There were so many more important things happening all around them.Five years of her in his life, filled with love, hurt, angst, and just a pinch of spice.
