Summary
Snufkin agrees to accompany Snorkmaiden to a market.
“But we’ve barely started!” Snorkmaiden said, “There’s a whole row of stalls we haven’t seen yet.”
He stared at her, “That was not part of the agreement.”
She gave him an innocent look, “You said ‘not for long.’ I think that’s very flexible.”
It was at that moment Snufkin realized two things.
First: He was already carrying a small bag that she definitely hadn’t been holding when they arrived.
Second: He was going to be here for a while.

“You’re back!” Moomin beamed, pulling back just enough to look up at him, “You’re early this year!”
Snufkin managed a smile, small but real, “Thought I’d see how the valley looked with a little extra sunlight.”
Moomin turned eagerly, “Oh! This is my new friend! They arrived two days ago. They’ve been everywhere, Snufkin, you wouldn’t believe the mountains they’ve crossed-”
The traveler approached with an easy smile and a nod, “An honor to meet the famous Snufkin. Moomin’s told me plenty.”
Their tone was warm. Friendly.
Too friendly?
No. Just normal. Snufkin was being foolish.

Moomintroll and Snufkin manage to lose their voices. For an entire day.
Forced to communicate only through gestures, expressions, and shared intuition, they discover new layers of each other they'd never noticed before.Snufkin stands impeccably still for a moment, breathing shallowly.
He opens his mouth.
Nothing comes out. Not even a whisper.
Moomin’s eyes widen in sympathetic alarm, and he reaches an arm out as if to steady him. Snufkin only waves him off, offering a small smile, though the corners of his mouth twitch in slight frustration. Being involuntarily silent is not his preferred form of quiet.

Summary
Snufkin arrives at Snorkmaiden's doorstep covered in mud and rainwater, Snorkmaiden takes him in and does a lot more for him than he initially expected.
“Hey,” she finally started, placing her mug back down on the coffee table. “Seeing as we're now having a sleepover—”
“Uh— just a minute—” Snufkin stuttered and quickly turned to meet her gaze. “I never said anything about a sleepover.”
“Never you! The clouds did!” Snorkmaiden enthused, gesturing towards the window with a slight tilt of her head. “I don't think it'll give up any time soon, and...well, you're already here.”
Snufkin looked back to the window, watching as the storm went on. Leaves and other debris were pulled from their respective spots, and the sky only darkened with each passing minute.
It seemed like staying was his only option.

Summary
Snufkin is having great trouble properly letting Moomintroll know how he feels, but luckily for him, Little My graciously comes to the rescue and helps Snufkin confess!
“Hrrmm....” Little My laid down, looking up at the cloudy sky for a couple moments. “You can choose to help in any way you desire; I just—need help,” Snufkin said, scratching the back of his neck.
“What if I can't think of any favor right now? ”
“Then you can come up with something later; I'll owe you.”
“Alright! ” Little My sat back upright and extended her paw out to the boy. “You've got a deal, pal.”

Summary
Snufkin stops by the Moominhouse; in hopes to see Moomintroll one last time before he makes his annual departure for the winter. Moomintroll already has trouble sleeping that night, as he worries about his friend's travels.
They then hang out for the rest of the night so Snufkin can properly bid Moomintroll farewell.
Swimming and crying ensues.
“It's really nice out, and I was wondering if- maybe- you'd want to go out for a walk?”
“...At midnight?” Moomintroll questioned, and Snufkin grimaced, he never was good at this, socializing. He was good at being cryptic and not telling anybody anything, but him being this forward was a little new.
Snufkin rubbed the side of his sleeve and glanced around a bit before giving Moomintroll an awkward smile.
