A boot connected sharply with his ribs, flipping him onto his back with a wet crack. Pain exploded through him, sharp enough to rip the world apart for one blinding instant. Still, Tobirama bared his teeth in something close to a smile.
If they expected him to beg, they'd have to do far worse. They could tear him apart, snap every bone, carve the Senju name from his very flesh. It would not matter.

Initially published 2009I use single quotes ‘to mark dialogue’ not “doubles”. This is a British publishing standard according to the Oxford Style Manual, and it's just my habit these days 😁

Summary
This isn’t something they had done before.
Naruto’s neck feels unbearably warm against Sasuke’s cheek as he’s pulled forcibly into an embrace, his irritated protests going largely ignored. It’s almost not really a hug so much as it is a cling, Naruto’s heels hitting Sasuke’s lower back, arm wrapping around Sasuke’s shoulders tightly. The shock of Naruto scrambling over onto his hospital bed isn’t enough to make the tears stop slipping down his cheeks, and he doesn’t have enough energy to truly resist – not that he truly wants to.
