    But his paranoia and fear has gone down and he doesn't really feel the need to clutch the knife under his pillow at night anymore but he forces himself to anyway because that knife and that paranoia and that fear had kept him alive for so long because W.I.C.K.E.D. might still be behind all this and maybe lulling him into a false sense of security and then pulling the rug out from under him was their plan all along.

    “Keith,” his voice was quiet and ragged, “I love you so much, but you have to understand, this is tearing me apart.

    “You can’t trust me, and I can’t trust you,” he smiled a sad smile. “We just don’t work.”

    Keith’s heart throbbed painfully as Lance delicately placed the engagement ring in his palm, curling Keith’s fingers around the precious gift. He leaned forward and placed a chaste kiss to Keith’s stubbly cheek.

    “I’m sorry this didn’t work. Goodbye, Keith.”

    Lance walked out the door, and Keith let him.
