"Baelor pondered his answer. It was a simple matter, but not simple to say; there was his duty, and there was his pleasure, and he was ill-accustomed to the two meeting in anything approaching happy matrimony."

Summary
The car Eddie bought smells like stale cigarettes and mildew, and the seat creaks ominously when Buck heaves himself gingerly into it. He watches Eddie limp around to the driver's side and ease himself behind the wheel with the kind of studied caution that suggests he's in a lot more pain than he's letting on. The engine coughs as it turns over, but it starts. Buck watches through the rearview mirror as Los Nietos fades into the distance with a sense of relief that feels so enormous he could choke on it.
Or: Buck, and Eddie, and a ten hour drive home.

"The crown suits you, you know," said Ser Duncan over the cacophony, and brought Baelor back to himself. "Makes you look... you know. Kingly. Which I suppose makes sense, given that you're the king now." A look of anguish crossed his face. "Oh, hells, I shouldn't be calling you 'you,' should I? It's 'Your Grace.' Please don't take—"
Baelor resisted the urge to rest his hand against the lad's back, as one might soothe a skittish horse. "No offense was taken, ser."
"Thank you," Ser Duncan said, then immediately amended, "Thank Your Grace...ness. Seven fucks, I'm getting another drink." And he whirled away into the throng before Baelor could say a word.

Summary
James is an aging professional tennis player making the run of his career at Wimbledon when his longtime coach, Sir John Franklin, dies unexpectedly. Left without a head coach and grasping desperately for what might be his final chance at glory (and personal validation) James begs retired legend Francis Crozier to step in as his coach, just for one match.
It’s a long shot--Crozier infamously dislikes James for reasons that remain opaque, and James isn’t helping matters with a long-simmering and ill-advised crush--but, miraculously, Francis agrees. Tensions run high, societal norms are challenged, sparks fly, and their unlikely partnership might just prove a winning combination.

"It will be best for us both, going our separate ways," James finished - decisive nod, now, the Captain making his call - and briefly touched Francis' shoulder with his hand. "I only wish you happiness, Francis. You must understand."
My happiness is at your side, James Fitzjames, Francis thought, and said "of course, James. I'm sure you have the right of it."

Summary
Back in the Arctic, stuffed two to a sleeping sack and trying to keep each other alert, he and James used to name every good type of thing they would eat when they got back, knowing–as they thought–the time would never come.
'Cream puffs', James had sighed one frigid night in a partial feverish delirium. Francis could hardly see him but for the lightest starlight, yet he had heard the smile evident in his voice all the same. That close, he had nearly felt it.
---
Hailed as heroes on their miraculous return to England, Francis and James fail to cope, but nonetheless manage to fall together.

Summary
James knew then, with a devastating certainty, that there was nothing awaiting him in England. This shell of a man he had become, or rather what yolk had run out once the shell was broken, had no friends there. All who once knew him would look at him with this same pity, and excuse themselves from his company. He no longer had anything to offer them to keep them by his side.
A story about longing and belonging.

Summary
Stephen took hold of Jack's face again, but not this time to cherish. He held him still—Jack making a mild complaining sound—and moved back far enough for the lantern-light to fall upon Jack and bring him into focus. There—there, on his jaw, where Stephen's hands had grabbed him—a faint smudge of the silvery dust. And on the side of his neck where the shirt lay loose, another trace of it, glittering like assassins' knives; Stephen remembered how he had combed all of his treacherous fingers through Jack's hair, stealthily savouring him. Contaminating him.

This decision might be considered the luckiest, as standing near Jack meant that Stephen was not alone in his fall overboard.

Summary
Before the rescue, and before James’s body had begun to break down in earnest, he’d started to find the nighttime cold on the shale unbearable. He’d shiver for hours before passing out from exhaustion—excruciating, when every movement caused him a spark of pain. One night the cold was particularly sharp—the flaps of their tent snapped loud as thunderclaps in the unforgiving wind—and he’d been shocked to feel his cot dip behind him, Francis’s solid form pressing up against his back.
“Francis,” he’d said, heart pounding, “what are you doing?”
“Whisht,” Francis had hissed. “Can’t sleep for the chattering of your teeth. Now rest.”
