Chapter six:
It starts like this:
Ranpo meets its eyes from across the street, and a corpse looks back. Dazai smiles at them, sharp-toothed and deathly cold, and they know immediately what a terrible idea this is. That has never stopped them before.
It starts like this:
Ranpo turns fourteen among dead bodies. They are raised on yellow tape and forensic imaging where other children play with stuffed animals, and their parents’ death is just as harsh as their knee-jerk reaction of analyzing the bodies is. Perhaps if their father had been more naive, had not recognized the genius of a child he had, they wouldn’t have turned out this way. It doesn’t matter. It’s been too late for them for years now.

Summary
She’s not being fair, she knows, but how can he stand there and act like he didn’t betray them all? Gin and Hirotsu ended up in the hospital. Higuchi had to go visit them there, and she’d nearly cried for them out of worry.
She had done the same for Tachihara, too, because he’d visited them once and then disappeared, and none of them knew where he’d ended up or if he was even alive.
(Before the dust settles, Higuchi and Tachihara run into each other once more.)

“Really?” Lucy asks, but relief breaks over her face like a wave. “I’m glad. I’ll see you around, then?”
That’s even worse, but they can’t bring themself to turn her down quite as harshly. “Okay,” Gin signs, and tells themself that it’s just because they don’t think she’ll understand anything more complicated.
Lucy grins, sharp and wide and bright, and nods to them before disappearing back around the campus hallways in a flurry of tulle and patchwork skirts.
(There's a new transfer student in Gin's class. They don't feel strongly about this at all.)

Summary
“There’s an izakaya right by an exit,” Higuchi says, presumably tapping at her phone. “Does that work?”
Tachihara looks at them. They nod. “Yup,” he calls back, and tugs the steering wheel all the way to the right to swerve onto another lane.
Gin clenches onto the armrest. Better driver was absolute bullshit. They should’ve paid more attention when Higuchi called him an adrenaline junkie.
(In order to ensure their safety, Gin is sent out of Yokohama directly after the boss' death. They just wish it had been with anyone else.)

Summary
There are unwritten rules that gods like them simply do not break; an unspoken agreement between those who rose above the rest, to avoid causing international incidents that have scarred the earth before.
Such as, say, being an Archon and getting arrested in another Archon’s land by their mortal people, who are none the wiser as to what they’re doing.
“All foreign visitors were given entry papers to verify their right of attendance to the Irodori Festival.” Kujou Sara’s gaze sharpens as she looks over Zhongli. “I trust you have yours for me to review?”
“Ah.” Zhongli stares at the open hand Sara has hovering his way. He then stares at his shoes, briefly over to Venti in his cell, up to Sara’s face, then back down to his shoes. “I suppose I should have thought of that.”
Or, Venti finally gets arrested by Kujou Sara, and Zhongli also gets arrested in his attempt to save him.

Summary
“Xiao,” says Verr Goldet, calling to him from the safe distance of Wangshu Inn’s reception level, “there’s a letter for you.”
The announcement nearly passes through Xiao’s ears as he stares at the plate of Almond Tofu left for him in the kitchen’s dining area. He had noticed what appeared to be an envelope in close proximity to his plate, and ignored it under the assumption that it was left forgotten by one of the staff. Xiao does not recognize the Inazuman address listed on the back when he picks up the envelope for a closer look, but the letter is unambiguously intended for him, bearing his name in fine penmanship on the front and marked with some red insignia stamped on the upper corner.

In the weeks following Lantern Rite, Xiao acquires a kite, a pen pal, and an answer on what to do next with his life.

Despite the fact that Hikaru is supposed to be in hell and Yoshiki attracts demons who want to consume his soul, the two of them are bound to each other—and it does not take long for the underworld to notice.
When the world threatens to tear them apart, they might just have to go to hell and back to stay together.
