    Summary

August stays quiet throughout dinner, signaling that he’d like to take watch with just a simple nod. He manages a smile for Misty, a gentle reassurance that he’s fine, that his head is just too busy for sleep at the moment, as it often is, and declines her offer of staying up with him. He pretends that his coat still needs mending until everyone is asleep, then puts aside his needle and thread, placing his head in his hands.

“Do you want to talk about it?”

The words are shadow given sound, and if his time in the Hive hadn’t taught August that silence and stillness meant safety, he might have shouted and lashed out at the voice before realizing it was Skreev.

    August’s moth hisses, wings fluttering.

“I wasn’t asking you, Mister Fuzzy.”

    Summary

    Choice.

Cal chokes, a breathless laugh. “You want me to join you? Me?”

The Inquisitor doesn’t seem to find it as funny as Cal does. “And why is that so unbelievable, young one? Your hate is impressive. Your fear already rules you. You are one of us already, even if you don’t accept it yet.”

    “Black isn’t really my colour.”

(Or: The Second Sister captures Cal on Bracca, and Cal Kestis cements his place in the history books as the worst Inquisitor to ever do it. He keeps helping the rebels, and befriending droids. It’s embarrassing, really.)

    Summary

Cal’s gloves are ripped to shreds, from dragging himself through the ship or his fight with Trilla, it doesn’t matter, but he can feel Cere dying in his arms, her shock and pain writing themselves into the fabric of her clothes, the very air around her, and Cal feels torturously doubled, his own death fast approaching. Darth Vader is a cataclysmic event, and Cal, delirious with pain, scrambles to catch the hilt of his saber as he begins to drag it out their corpses – and that’s what he and Cere are, corpses, with only a last few seconds of misfiring neurons left in them, no matter how much BD-1 trills and punches stim after stim into his arm – they are tipping past that point of no return now, and Cal needs to do something right now before it’s too late for – for what?

    Too late for what?

    Summary

A burning pain ignited in Cal’s stomach. He opened his eyes and came face to face with Darth Vader’s mask, the Sith’s red lightsaber buried to the hilt in Cal’s gut. BD-1 was gripping Cal’s trousers with one clawed foot, beeping out a high-pitched, frantic plea.

    Right.

That’s why Cal wasn’t supposed to chase the rabbit. He knew that.

    ***

Cal Kestis can move backwards in time (kinda-sorta-not really), and his confrontation with Darth Vader in the Fortress Inquisitorius plays out a lot differently.

Fixing the timeline while stuck in his 10-year-old body will be quite the task, but Cal is up to it. He has to be.

(Obi-Wan, Anakin, and the clone troopers have no idea what to make of Kenobi's weird new padawan. At least the kid fits in, though.)

    Summary

If Luke focuses hard enough, he would be able to conjure the image perfectly. Those light pink lines carved into his skin, a straight slash over the bridge of his nose and a curve over his jaw. Blaster burns.

(Or: Luke stares and admires, even though he knows he shouldn't.)
