Summary
Lysandre did not want anything from the Rust Syndicate.
In the aftermath of everything, Corbeau had sought Lysandre out. He made a point to track him down across the city he seemed so keen to disappear into it. He didn’t want to lose him again, not after he’d just found him.
So in a side street off of the Central Plaza as dawn broke over the city, Corbeau made an offer of everything he had. He had it all worked out—had found an apartment for Lysandre from one of the Syndicate’s property investments. Had a stipend ready for him with no strings attached, cut from Corbeau’s own take of Syndicate earnings. A chauffeur, if Lysandre wanted it, to make his days easier. An offer of investment into anything Lysandre wanted to do.
Anything for the man he owed so much to, the man he missed so much. It was the least he could do.
But when Corbeau was done with his pretty speech presenting his blank check, Lysandre just stared at him. Shook his head, and refused everything. Jerked his arm out of Corbeau’s grip.
Or, Corbeau, Lysandre, and what it means to love and be loved in return.

Summary
“You,” Luca snarled, glaring at Alva fucking Lorenz with all the force he could muster. The effect was somewhat diminished, he suspected, with his arms tied behind his back, and the two cultists gripping hard on shoulders.
“Me,” Alva said simply. “Hello, dear boy.”
“Don’t call me that, you lying bastard—“ He was cut off abruptly by one of the cultists shoving a gag into his mouth. Quite rude of them, if Luca was being honest.
Alva simply smiled, in that placid way Luca once used to admire. Bastard, he was a bastard, Luca had to keep reminding himself so he wouldn’t fall for the same stupid nonsense again. It was Alva’s fault he was in this mess in the first place.
Luca has to reunite with a devil to stop an apocalypse.

Summary
Luca left the call first, and shortly after his discord status changed to offline. Naib felt a pang of disappointment that he tried hard to ignore.
That had been happening more and more often lately. Every time Luca left the team house to go back to his own place, or left a call, or even just left a room, Naib kept realizing that he would miss him. That he was…sad, when Luca was out of his sight; that he wanted to keep hanging out with Luca whenever he could. Even when they argued or teased each other, it was never serious—quite frankly it could be fun to go at it with Luca, like a sparring match or a one-vs-one. But he didn’t know what to do with that, or any of his other feelings for the man. Naib was his captain and his teammate. Changing that—in any direction—could wreck their chances at qualifying for the Call of the Abyss global bracket.
Naib overthinks his chances with Luca. A push in the right direction comes from the last place he expects.

Summary
No one told Laios just how lonely it would be to be the king.
He didn’t think of it at the time, when Yaad had suggested the arrangement. There had been a lot going on, a lot to sort out. Sisters to save, monsters to stop, worlds to keep from ending, countries rising from the sea. He hadn’t had room to breathe with all that needed to be done, much less time to consider what the future would actually look like.
(Maybe Laios has never been that good at thinking ahead. Or thinking through the consequences of his actions.)
But sisters became safe and mostly whole. Monsters became meat, or else disappeared, or else ran from him, now. Worlds did not end, which was good, and countries became stable, which in the long term was almost the same thing. Time moved forward, and he kept living.
Which meant he got to see exactly how lonely it could be, when the mundane day to day finally caught up with him.
Laios deals with being the one left behind. It's easier, though, with Kabru by his side.

Summary
But Kabru is younger than even Laios, youthful even for a tall-man adult. He doesn’t know yet how to avoid taking all the pressure on himself. He doesn’t know how to recognize the pitfalls of self-doubt, or how to avoid them. His sense of responsibility trips him to a fault.
He doesn’t know how radiantly he shines, when he manages to get out of his own way.
It’s lucky, then, that he has people around him to reflect his light back. Even if Mithrun himself can no longer do it perfectly, he can try.
He’s half-surprised to find he almost wants to.
Kabru worries about his place in the world. Mithrun doesn't let him for long.
