i don’t think a fic has ever, in ALL my ao3 veteran years, EVER resonated this hard in my bones and my heart. as an ex-athlete who’s autistic and had only been diagnosed when i was 20, and was closeted the entire time i was out on the court, the show(of course) but more importantly this specific fic healed something so, so profound in me it makes my chest physically hurt. i have never felt so god damn seen, heard, spoken to, etc. in my life. i genuinely cannot thank the author enough for every single chapter, every single line, every thought and all the time they took to do research. good fucking god. oh my fucking god. this will be in my head for months to come. user snakeswithsocks on ao3 idk if you see bookmark notes but god do i owe you my life

There’s a noise coming from out in the living area and Shane leaves the bedroom to follow it, stretching and popping his back as he goes. Sunlight shines through the walls of glass, warm and bright and turning Ilya’s hair gold where he stands in the kitchen. His head bobs along to the music playing tinny from his phone, curls bouncing, and the smell of cooking meat drifts through the air.
Feet quiet against the cool floor, Shane makes his way to the breakfast bar. Ilya doesn’t look up from his task, humming along with the music while he pokes at the ground meat sizzling away in a frying pan. There’s something tangling in Shane’s stomach as he watches, some bottomless well of greed yawning wide at the sight of his boyfriend, standing in his kitchen like he belongs there.
“You’re up early,” Shane says, draping himself along the line of Ilya’s back and hooking his chin over his shoulder.
To his credit, Ilya doesn’t jump, just gives a pleased hum and leans back against Shane’s chest. “Morning.”

Not that Kip had anything against Russians, of course, but the chances were that any given Russian in the NHL was not going to be all that friendly to gay people. The only Russian NHL player Kip was at all familiar with was that Rozanov guy from Boston, and based on the “fighter, womanizer, party boy” stories he’d heard about the guy, he was really hoping that he was not the man standing next to him.
“Yeah. That’s me.” Kip confirmed, standing straighter and flashing a tight smile.
Hockey Guy grinned and offered his hand. “Ilya Rozanov. Nice to meet you.”
