Unscientific or not, Tachyon thinks, of course she knows about the red thread of fate. That’s not the point, she wants to say, but the words get caught in her throat, and Pokke seems entirely unfazed by the implications of her own actions. There are a billion things to point out here, even; the thread isn’t meant to be literal more than a symbolism for fate, and more importantly –– why was Pokke tying it to her?

But it doesn’t matter, in any angle Nijika sees it, as cool and talented Ryo is, they would never be friends.
It's not a year later, when irony hits the drummer like a truck, Ryo does become Nijika's bassist, worming her annoying 163-centimeters-self into Nijika's life, and to her dismay, into her heart.

It never is, especially now, when this has happened for god knows how many times now. She squeezes the stupid phone in her hand, tempted to toss it into the stupid street outside—or maybe even throw her stupid self into the path of an oncoming stupid truck, just so stupid Nijika would finally come running back to her.
She sets the phone down beside her, taking a deep breath. She knows she doesn’t need to do anything drastic to be seen. Maybe, for once, she just needs to see herself and where she went wrong.
