“You come here to fish too, Shadow?”
Shadow's quills puff up like a startled urchin. Big can't help but think about how the shape reminds him of the starfish he finds in the tidal pools on the north end. Everything's almost the same except for those shocks of red that stand out like a warning. Big learned pretty early on that bright things, especially in the water, usually mean ‘stay away’. His thicker gloves generally help him with handling all the different critters he reels in, but even he knows there's some stuff you just don't want to get too close to.
Shadow seems nice enough though. He's pretty sure the hedgehog doesn't bite either.

Summary
After gifting Shadow his den so he has somewhere safe to stay while on the run, Sonic promises to keep his fugitive identity and their growing friendship a secret so he can protect him. Meanwhile, the Wachowski's are under strict orders from G.U.N. to report any sightings of Shadow's whereabouts and are totally clueless to the stowaway hiding in their back garden.
However, Sonic’s plans to keep both sides of his life from colliding are dashed when Tails finds out he’s been sheltering Shadow, and now it’s only a matter of time before the rest of the family catch on, too.
Sonic is faced with the option to come clean and betray Shadow’s trust by admitting everything to his family, or jeopardising Maddie and Tom’s livelihoods by staying silent and deceiving G.U.N.
Unless, or course he just maintains a perfect balance without letting his two lives overlap. That should be fine so long as he can keep his (probably, maybe, definitely romantic) feelings for Shadow under wraps.
What's the worst that can happen?

Shadow stares at him from over the top of the papers he's been reading for the past five minutes, his snout scrunched up like he's asked Shadow to go base jumping off the cliffs in Rail Canyon together without chutes. Like he's said something ridiculous here. When Shadow finally sets the haphazard script down, Sonic doesn't miss the way Shadow's grimacing. “I'm not saying any of this.”
“What? C'mon!” Sonic spreads his arms with a smile. “It’s for the immersion.”
Shadow leans over and reads one of the lines in an even monotone, “‘You look so good crying on my cock.’”
“So, is that a no, or?”
“It's a critique,” Shadow says flatly, ear flicking.
