Summary
Absolutely nothing could dampen the pure, unfiltered glee Tsutomu felt when he saw Ushijima Wakatoshi spike for the first time. The ball he hit echoed against the wood of the court with a loud smack, and Tsutomu was in awe. And maybe he did flinch a little, as he so frequently was teased for, but that didn’t take away from how his eyes widened in shock from the sheer amount of power that man held.
(And he definitely wasn’t equally as excited to spot the crazy redhead next to him start shaking his hands in the same way Tsutomu did when he was happy. He definitely was weirded out by it. Definitely.)

Hal stops mixing the hot chocolate powder into the warm milk, turning around slowly to face the boy. He's so confused, he can only try to decode one part of that sentence at a time, “Your father? Like, your father, Batman? That one?”
Wrong point to focus on it seems, since Damian's scowl deepens to an impossible degree, “Are you seeing multiple other men that you need me to clarify?!”
“No! I'm not seeing any men!” Hal tries to reason, before realising that he's having the strangest conversation with Robin, of all people.
(Due to some misunderstandings, Hal is now engaged to Batman and a stepfather of five, allegedly.)

“So,” Jason slipped past, turning sideways so his shoulders didn’t brush the growing collection of family photos on the wall. “What did you do to piss him off?”
Damian was always grumpy. It was a foundational tenet of his personality. But Damian liked Duke. Something about the way Duke had come into the family made Dami almost protective of him. As if he had been the one who ‘found’ him. Claimed him.
Duke cringed and rubbed the back of his head as if he were trying to hide something shameful. “I, uh… I beat him in a sparring match.”
“Ohhhhhhh,” Jason nodded. “Yeah. That’ll do it.”

He’s nine again– nine and new and knows so many things now so rather than try to go back–
He thinks he has the chance to make things right.
The bright blue trainers he puts on are a pair he hasn’t worn in forever, something he never thought about after he grew out of them (will grow out of?) a year from now, and sets off into the night and into the rain.
The plan he has in his brain is not really a plan, moreso just a couple of half thrown ideas and maybe five steps into building back the life he had in the most painless way he could.
Maybe, he thinks, maybe this plan can start off with the family he misses– because he’s sixty and most of them too injured or too old or too dead–
Call him selfish but he misses them. He would rather find them than get himself back into that lonely existence he called a life before he woke up at nine.
Dick makes do because that’s all he can do really.
