Crepus is sick and has a few years left to live. His final wish is to see Diluc married. The tsaritsa wants to strengthen her bonds with Mondstadt especially with a new king ascending to the throne soon, what better way to achieve that than a marriage between her youngest son and the prince of Mondstadt.
So in Exchange for Diluc’s hand in marriage for her son she sends off her own personal doctor to help treat crepus.

Or crepus is sick and wants diluc to be married when he becomes king and Ajax is the only prince willing to participate in a political marriage. It's just a bonus that he's kinda cute and from one of the strongest countries in military power.
