Murmurs after a fashion, “I think he just misses you. And I miss you, and I miss him. And if you were here, you could roll your eyes with me and say something dumb, and I’d huff, and he’d groan, and we’d laugh. It’s all just... It’s all just broken now."

Summary

Frustrated by the poor state of their relationship and for still loving Merlin despite his rejection, Arthur feels trapped by his looming marriage to Mithian to settle their kingdoms' dispute over Gedref.
Meanwhile, as Uther descends into madness, he becomes convinced that his son's illicit affair with his servant is causing his reluctance to marry, and he sets Merlin in his crosshairs.

Summary
Merlin fell in love with Arthur all at once.
Or maybe it was more like falling off a cliff. What took mere moments felt like an eternity as the initial misstep turned into a slow and panicked tumble straight off a cliff.
It was a normal day at first. Well, a normal day would’ve started in the castle, so maybe not normal, but at least not so irregular as to be suspicious. Definitely not strange enough to have led to Merlin’s downfall, but here they were.

Arthur wakes up in a Camelot where Merlin has never come to Camelot.
At first, Arthur is so distracted by Merlin's absence, that he doesn't realize how everyone is staring at him strangely.
Arthur: Is something the matter?
Knight: Are you - Excuse me, Sire - You are so calm today. Is everything alright?
Arthur: Calm? How on earth am I calm? Merlin is gone!"
Knight: Yes but ... Aside from this mysterious Merlin... You haven't chosen a servant today.
Arthur: If they aren't Merlin, then it doesn't matter.

Something fluttered in his chest then — something he thought was annoyance and disbelief, but with time proved to be… well, annoyance, sure, but mixed with a tiny portion of excitement and interest. And it was just a seed that found fertile ground in his heart and grew and grew and grew until it became impossible to ignore any more.

Summary
Of all the ways Arthur and the knights could've found out about his magic, Merlin hadn't thought it'd be due to a sparrow. There will be a happy ending, but it's gonna take a while.
"Arthur was terrified when he saw Merlin make up his mind to jump. He put on a burst of speed, willing his body to give everything he had so he could just-reach out and….He crashed at full speed into the warlock, knocking them both out of breath, but most importantly, far away from the edge of the ravine. Merlin fought him, kicking and clawing for escape, but it was clear that whatever had fueled him for so long was gone, and eventually the kicking and punching and shouting was gone, and Merlin wept in Arthur’s arms, trembling hard.
“Sorry, so sorry, so so sorry. ‘M so sorry, Arthur,” he sobbed desperately, and Arthur held him close, heart racing and eyes wet. “I’m so sorry, please don’t burn me. I’m so sorry. I didn’ mean to, I was born with it.” Merlin cried, and Arthur shushed him gently."

One of her eyes juts from her head, distended from the impact of the baseball bat. The other eye is missing altogether, along with chunks of her scalp and patches of red hair. He’s willing to bet that if he were to grab for Stiles’s weapon, he’d find all the viscera caked in there amongst the barbed wire, the nails, the shards of glass, but his limbs appear to be on permanent vacation.
Only a handful of minutes ago, Derek was sure he was going to die. Now she's dead. Not just dead, slaughtered.
It's overkill at the highest level, and Stiles doesn't even seem bothered.

Merlin dried his eyes in his mother’s tunic and put up his first mental wall that day.
