Summary
After pledging his life to Aloy's cause, Kotallo struggles to find his worth in this new environment amidst new squadmates. To add to his difficulties, he rescues his commander's freshly jilted Carja friend, Talanah Khane Padish, and is forced to tolerate her presence at the base while her not-lover heals.
Talanah is a proud and fierce woman, she has always been sure of herself. Since reuniting with Amadis however, she feels as if she's lost some of her confidence and lost sight of her purpose.
But the longer Talanah stays at the base, the more that she and Kotallo regain a part of themselves that they thought was gone. Their prejudices about the other's tribe fades, and soon their relationship progresses in ways neither could have imagined. But Talanah was never meant to stay. Will they have to give up what they have found in one another when Talanah finally goes back to the Sundom?

Regalla thought she was being spared for a war of legends, not to be forced to watch... whatever this is.
"I just risked my life for you. You could give me a minute to catch my breath," Aloy says.
"I hope you do not think I will be returning the favor any time soon," Regalla drawls.
And yet, when the specters close in - it is hardly a decision. Regalla stares past the machines, past Aloy’s horrified, blood-streaked face, and meets the eyes of the one Marshal she failed to kill. He nods his approval. And Regalla greets her death smiling.
(Aloy spares Regalla at the Grove. The journey back to the Base is a long and awkward one, and Regalla has no intention of making it easier.)
