“Samira.” She keeps her voice calm and level, knowing it’ll just annoy Samira further. She muffles a laugh as Samira just curses and grumbles under her breath, something long and winding that sounds like it’s aimed at her. Catches the words rich surgeons and savior complex and thinks a pretty face means you can do whatever you want, a smile stretching across her face that she doesn’t bother hiding.
“You think I’m pretty?” Emery teases, turning so she’s in front of Samira and walking backwards as she grins at her. Her heart beats faster at the possibility, knowing Samira didn’t intend for her to hear her mumbled grumbling, letting herself have the tiniest pinch of hope for once.

“I was scared,” Samira says quietly, an honest admission released from the comfort of Parker's arms. “Because if this doesn't work out, I'm losing you as a friend, too.”“I know,” Parker murmurs. “I’m scared, too. But if we don’t try, we’ll always regret what could’ve been. I don’t want to miss out on something with you because we’re too scared of what-ifs.” She feels Samira nod against her, feels her arms tighten where they wrap around her in a silent plea to stay. She tugs Samira's claw clip out of her hair and runs her fingers through the tangled curls, feels her shaky breathing even out against her collarbone.
“I want this,” Samira says eventually, after what could’ve been seconds or minutes. “I want you. You’re worth the fear that this comes with.” She pulls back to meet Parker's eyes, sliding her hands to rest on Parker’s waist.

When she turns, headfirst to look back at Mohan, body following to face her fully, "But you need to know when to turn it off," Ellis continues, meeting Mohan's wide-eyed stare head on, "Go home."
Samira watches her go, biting the inside of her cheek and shuddering through a purposeful inhale. Her shoulders slump and then her neck follows, head ducked through the exhale. ‘What if I can’t?’ she imagines asking Ellis, ‘what if I don’t know how?’

Yolanda has to hold her even tighter to keep her from swaying when she tries to walk on her own.
“No, no!” is the first thing she manages to say, her fingers hooking into the waistband of Trinity’s pants as she draws her back toward her.

“We should go out,” Emery declared before biting into her tacos, hoping she didn’t look like a complete untamed beast eating. She’d been raised to have impeccable manners but she eschewed most of the useless crap they’d tried to drill into her. Unfortunately for her parents, she had absorbed their stubborn streak.
Samira stared at her wide-eyed but said nothing. She also gave nothing away so Emery couldn’t tell if she was completely repulsed by the idea. She tucked a curl behind her ear and seemed to go inward a moment.
“We are out.”
She was being cheeky but hiding it behind this mask of earnestness that Emery enjoyed more than obvious sarcasm.
“Think about it. Yolanda would stop nagging at me about going on dates, and you actually get to go on them. Experience life outside of the Pitt.”
Samira nibbled gingerly on her own meal, making a valiant attempt to not make a mess. She set her own taco down carefully, leaning her arms back on the bench, staring up at the few clouds left in the twilight sky.
