Summary
Derek always loved flowers. Roses, poppies, hyacinths, you name it. He loved the colourful plants and he loved tending to them.
His favourite kind of flowers were the wild flowers that would grow on fields and the sides of the road. He liked how they would sway in the breeze, waving at any people passing by.
He loved the way Titch would sometimes lay down, surrounded by the flowers, on a field. The way he would soak up the sun like he were a flower himself.
Derek loved Titch more than he loved flowers.
(More than anything, really.)
And that loved had been rooted deep into his heart.

Stoick should have known better. While he didn't know much about his son-especially now-he knew the boy was clever. It should have been no surprise when a guard burst into the Council Meeting and revealed that Hiccup had escaped the cell Stoick put him in...hours after the boy was revealed to have saddled a dragon.
Hiccup is gone, and so is the beast.
They search, but do not find him. Berk falls asleep one night and awakens in the Great Hall, where the torches come to life and cast an image of their isle on the wall, from which floats Hiccup's voice, years younger.
AKA, Hiccup forfeited the final challenge, leaving Astrid with the right to kill the Nightmare. Story picks up in the Race to the Edge era, except Berk never learned the truth of dragons, no one knows how Hiccup really lost his leg, and stories of a hooded 'vigilante' riding a Night Fury have been long whispered...and Berk will see it all unfold.

In truth, Titch wasn't entirely sure how Derek had managed to talk him out of working.
Siren song, perhaps. One of Margaery's potions. Divine intervention.
Obviously it had nothing to do with the fact that Derek happened to be very cute and Titch happened to be very in love with him.
Titch doesn't see the appeal in stargazing. Derek sets out to change his mind.
