When Killua is 26, his mother dies. He is his mother’s child and he can’t stay out of it. He decides to head home, to attend his mother’s funeral and that’s it. Then he is done with this whole thing, and can go back to his lonely and "formidable" life as an estate lawyer.
He is in fact, — enter Gon — not done with this whole thing. Because coming back and then leaving, is easier said than done when you run into the thing you've been running from, even more dangerous than your psycho mobster family: the estranged best friend you left behind. Who still wants more of you.
Killua escaped from the life he was chained to at 16, leaving behind Gon and his sister and duty. How does Killua let anyone in after a decade of shallow conversations, interactions, and walls reaching skyscraper heights? An alpha doesn't worry his people. Killua does a real shoddy job at that...

In a flash, like Gon’s knock was prepared for, the door opens to reveal Killua and his confused-twisted face. Relief comes in waves, and he rushes to put his arms around the boy, trapping him in a rib-cracking hug.
Gon has a nightmare of not being able to save Killua throughout his hardships with his family, and spirals after waking up. Comfort ensues.
