Summary
Jordie Rietveld was one of the newest members of the Council of Tides, inducted after being rescued from the Reaper’s Barge. He loved life in the towers, of course, even though he had a suspicion that he wasn’t getting the full picture. But there are whispers of a man named Brekker meddling in Tides business, and surely sneaking out can’t hurt if it’s only to sate his curiosity, right?

Summary
Whelk looked rough. His hair was a bit disheveled, his eyes stormy, his hands shoved into his pockets as if whatever was in there was the only thing he owned. There was a strange set in his jaw, a look that traced up from there to his mouth pressed into a hard line to those dark thundering eyes. Noah lifted a hand in greeting. “Does this mean you’re white trash now?” It was all he could do now. Lighten the mood.
Whelk didn’t laugh. “Unlock your door,” he growled. “We’re doing the ritual.”
---
Or, Noah and Whelk attempt the ritual. Fate's always known how it ends.

Summary
It wasn’t enough that Kevin had to let their carefully guarded secret slip to Riko, all of those years of whispered French blown to pieces. He had to twist the knife into Jean’s back by dragging him into his escape. Jean Moreau is no stranger to atoning for other people’s sins, and he would do it all again if it meant that Kevin got out, if it meant that he is safe.
Like he has done every morning to these hellish sixteen hour days, the first thing Jean does is reach for his phone.
There is nothing from Kevin, just like the last six mornings.
(or: kevin, jean, & the time between kevin's broken hand and the phone call in the foxhole court)

Summary
Wymack grunted. “Hey, why don’t I call in takeout from Sweeties and we can eat it in the office? I have a sixteen year old boy in the back of the patrol car right now that I’m running to the station.”
Andrew scoffed quietly to himself and set the phone on speaker to light his cigarette. Muffled, he said, “He better be eye candy if I’m coming to that dump.”
Andrew inhaled deep and closed his eyes for a moment before blowing the smoke out through his teeth. On the other end of the phone, just as he was bringing the cigarette back for another drag, he heard Wymack say, “Hey, my son wants to know if you’re cute.”
Andrew coughed up his lung at that surprise, but he didn’t miss the way that a distant voice piped up with “I want to say yes, sir.”

Andrew and Aaron lived under two loose rules after Andrew’s stint in juvie: No more lying, no more secrets. Andrew already had years old secrets to take to the grave, but upon meeting a boy with a fiery attitude and a penchant against staying out of trouble, he quickly realized that he wasn’t the only one.

Summary
The words that kill the light are delivered with as much emotion and ceremony as next week’s weather report.
A middleaged fed who should be name- and faceless but isn’t because Andrew is incapable of forgetting, says them into a quiet room at 7:34 AM in a voice devoid of empathy:
“Nathaniel Wesninski, the man you know as Neil Josten, died in federal custody two hours ago.”
Or: Neil dies and Andrew is having a very bad time about it.
