it’s never said outright in their classes, but it feels sometimes as though that’s what they’re meant to be aspiring to, anyway - aoyama sits in the front row, and listens, and takes better notes than his grades would give him credit for. to their teachers, of course, but to his classmates, as well. all might is the hero that defines their age, of course. but there are thousands more. how many of the ones who get remembered died a quiet death at home or aged out? no, for many, it’s a blaze of glory - putting their lives on the line until the very end. the profession of hero is not one undertaken by someone who is willing to die quietly, in most cases. there are very few old heroes.
he could never, of course. his parents have very little to offer all for one. were he to die, they would simply be considered loose ends who knew more than they ought to.

They are bent, but not broken. Shouto suspects that will change.
King Todoroki Enji captures the two successors of his greatest rival.
Make no mistake: this is a story about gentleness.

Shouta considers. He’s unarmed, facing an unknown person who knows his home address and his first name, he hasn’t slept in thirty-six hours, and he’s wearing kitten-patterned pajama pants. Despite all of that, he’s still confident in his ability to handle himself in a fight, but nothing about this situation is making sense, and it’s sending him slightly off-kilter.
Starting with how the shadow man knows his name.
“Maybe,” he says, after his silence has dragged on a beat too long. “Who’s asking.”
(Aizawa Shouta is two years out of UA, and three years grieving the death of one of his best friends, when a stranger knocks on his door in the middle of the night.)

The blue-haired boy pauses, studies his hand uncertainly before shrugging. “Shirakumo Oboro,” he introduces in return, hand phasing right through Izuku’s when he goes to return the handshake. Shirakumo doesn’t seem surprised by it, but Izuku whips his hand back when the intense chill climbs up his arm.

By now, Yagi knows it from its scent alone: the soft breath of fresh rainfall is masked with the heavy rot of damp garbage, back alley dumpster festering in his periphery. And yet he isn’t lucid enough to escape, he never is, not even as those all-too-familiar hands slam into his back full force, sending his skull smashing against the sharp edge of the dumpster. Blood gushes over Yagi’s brow as he’s whirled around. A frightened cry stops short as those deadly hands find his throat.
“Beautiful,” All For One sneers, that piercing grin the only white in an alley swimming with dark. Yagi snatches at the man’s strangling grip, but the fingers only curl tighter into his skin. “Look at you now, All Might. The most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.”
(The attack on the young hero is brutal. Living with it is even worse.)

Yagi’s eyes were so dilated that the blue was almost invisible. He shook violently. He looked like a scarecrow in a windstorm.
Someone activated a Fear-Inducer Quirk so powerful that it reduced All Might to this— of course Aizawa’s class had bolted.

He also sees spirits, which might be cool if not for the fact that a) no one else does, b) they really don't like him very much, and c) he's pretty sure the heroes now think he's a villain working for the League.
Aizawa Shota just wants to take down Overhaul, rescue Eri, keep his students alive, get some rest, and find out how this Deku kid knows things he absolutely should not know about his personal life and the Shie Hassaikai case.
Unless Nighteye's right, and the kid really is a villain.
