Summary
Roy Mustang and Edward Elric's relationship had always been complicated. Roy wasn't sure why the boy resented him so much, but he was fine with it as long as Edward listened enough to keep himself safe.
However, when Edward makes a careless decision after being injured on an inspection that results in him developing pneumonia, Mustang offers him a spot in his apartment in place of going to a hospital out of fear of the kid taking a potentially fatal dive over the weekend.
To top it all off, East City is freezing in one of the coldest winters to date.
Time will tell if the brief stay will break down their walls and allow them to bond, or if will make things between them even worse.

Roy Mustang’s words were laced with a thoughtful hum, and Edward tried not to feel hurt by the misassumption. Many heard his title and assumed it came down to his automail arm and leg. Ed had just hoped the Colonel – after everything – would’ve been different; that Mustang would’ve looked past Edward’s ill-fitting uniform and cripplingly-heavy automail and only see him as a person.
‘‘But,’’ Mustang continued, pensive, ‘‘I think they spelled your title wrong. You’re not Fullmetal, you should be Fullmettle. As in, you are full of mettle.’’
Edward blinked, utterly baffled.
‘‘Mettle, kid. M-E-T-T-L-E.’’
Mustang spelled it out for him. Literally. A genuine smile tugged at the Colonel’s lips as he rumbled out a fleeting chuckle, affectionately sweeping a hand over the top of Edward's golden crown. The boy's throat constricted as an annoying warm blur suddenly invaded his vision. He had experienced more kind words and actions under this man’s brief command than he had experienced in a long, long time.
It was just a shame that it was only a temporary arrangement.

And thus began the nightmarish incident that would take years off team Mustang's life.

The men pulled, and something came free- with a splash and a clank, something metal fell out of the end of the pipe and landed in the drainage ditch at their feet.
It was about three feet long, and made of metal.
“What the fuck is that?” one of the men on the line asked, voice hushed.
One of them picked it up- it was an arm, an automail arm- not attached to anything, only the rope still firmly tied around the wrist.
Roy felt nausea bubble up in him like regret, and turned to the nearest soldier.
“Get me a damn light- I’m going in after him!”
Something was terribly wrong.
Edward Elric tries to avoid giving his report and do a good deed. Roy Mustang tries to avoid pondering his role in Edward's life. Both fail miserably. And it's all because of the damn rain.
A slow burn of excitement, angst, drama, trauma, hurt/comfort, and found family. Maybe in that order.

According to everyone, she wasn’t what any of them expected. When they’d heard she was a veteran they had thought she’d be hardened and serious. Instead they all said the same things about her. Helpful, funny, honest, and generous. She spent an absurd amount of money on things that bettered the community in some way. She was the main reason the mine carts and bus were working again. (Even though no one knew how she managed it.) Why the library suddenly gained a better collection. She’d even provided Penny with up to date books and supplies to help teach Jas and Vincent better. Robin had mentioned how she’d been hired to fix up the roof on the Stardrop and even paid her to inspect Evelyn and George’s roof when a leak was barely even mentioned.
With each story of generosity something in him tightened. He enjoyed hearing how she’d helped everyone in some way, even if it was just a simple errand, she didn’t hesitate. He was glad things were going well on her farm but a brief flash of her leaning heavily on a short cane left him worried. Was she pushing herself too far?A story about Harvey falling fast for a stubborn farmer.

In retrospect, perhaps an old cottage by the sea wasn't the best idea. Romantic, yes — who could deny the appeal of finding yourself while living in a rustic cabin by the seashore, falling asleep to the sound of waves and waking up with the cry of seagulls?
Of course, the appeal isn't as strong when there's a freak blizzard around him, barely held back by the old wooden walls, and no stable heating system. The seagulls had grown tiresome rather quickly, too.
Just as he idly wondered how long it would take for someone to find his frozen corpse, there was a knock on the door.
AKA elliott is a romantic dumbass who didn’t think things through before spending winter in an ancient cottage, and the farmer is a determined dumbass who’s not about to let her favourite writer freeze to death
