His stranger doesn’t age. Hob has never seen him eat nor drink, nor step foot into the sun. He has always dressed as if he had just come from a wake, no matter the era. Add on top of that, the pale complexion, hypnotic eyes, and overall supernatural beauty—Hob thinks as far as theories go, it’s a pretty good one.

Summary
Sometimes it feels impossible to compare the Q described in Starfleet records to the one that pops on and off the ship at his own leisure. It really shouldn’t be, especially given that Jean-Luc has provided almost all the information, but reading Q’s description on paper is vastly different to enduring his presence.
For example, Q’s file now states that he is averse to touch with physical beings. Words that Jean-Luc himself wrote stare back at him from the screen, but he cannot bring himself to believe them.
Jean-Luc can recall a hundred casual touches: a mouth next to his temple, an arm around his shoulder, a finger tracing his ear, a hand reaching for his across his desk. These were not the behaviours of a touch-averse creature.

Summary
Q understood going in that nothing that happened during a mission was real, but it had become increasingly difficult to separate himself from the mission. Pretending to be Simon Gardiner was simple enough. Simon was a tech geek who’d made a pile of money before the dot-com crash, and Q could identify. James, though, was a different matter. As James Gardiner he had been affection personified, the performance of his rôle as besotted husband transcendent. No one watching would ever doubt that he was in love with his Simon.
