Stolas couldn't remember if he'd ever not been in pain.
The dull ache of existence was his oldest friend. The way his muscles cried and his bones felt sharp was the backdrop of every wispy memory, a constant he could rely on.
Not that he knew he was in pain. Normalcy is a funny thing. Pain was the name given to the temporary ailments of his life, the stubbed toes and sharp slaps. The all consuming ache was never named- it didn't need to be. One would sooner describe breathing as work. So the young prince went about his life with the unchallenged assumption that everyone dealt with the ache, and he was simply weak for sometimes letting it get to him.

Octavia should have known the screaming wouldn't stay gone forever.
When her dad was first banished, her mother spent a few weeks in pure bliss, gossiping and laughing. After a while, the anger returned, but Octavia could avoid it easily enough, putting on her headphones while her mother complained to some fellow royal on the phone. The lack of screaming weighed on her mind. As it stretched on for over a month, Octavia slowly hardened in resolve- her dad had truly been the problem. Sure, her mother wasn't pleasant, but the house was calmer. (And colder. So much colder).
Set after Sinsmas as Octavia slowly uncovers her mother's true nature and comes to undestand what her dad could never find the words to explain.

The same thing goes for his testosterone prescriptions and gender affirming surgeries— and if Kade ever gets cold feet and begins to have doubts, Anthony will be right there to remind him of what he wants, how much better things have been, gently pushing him in the right direction. Because why would he spend years questioning his identity when he could just have all the answers handed to him? Tony knows exactly what he wants, so why waste time wondering when he could have it all, no questions asked?
Kade really doesn’t have to worry about anything. Not when Anthony is there to reassure him, fuck him, and take care of him.
