    Summary

“I’m looking for something,” Lizzie told Joel. “Something important. I have to get back to it before anything bad happens.”

“But you don’t know what it is? Like, what shape it is? What color?”

Lizzie shook her head. The image in her mind was like a dream, shimmering and transparent, thin as gauze. She had to hold it in the corner of her mind in a bubble, and if she thought about it too hard, the bubble popped. Then she had to wait until she had some idea of what she was searching for again, and the last time had taken hours.

The thing she needed was sick or needed protecting— round or squirmy— gasping for oxygen his malformed gills struggled to filter or no, that wasn’t it, it was small and smooth and hidden in the weeds where they decayed, smeared with silt and barnacles and painted ever-so-carefully to look like a harmless, inedible rock.

It was hard to focus on. She knew it as a tightness under her breastbone, a stinging in her eyes. As anxiety that clouded her mind and urged her back, back, we have to hurry. It had been too long. She had been gone too long.

    Summary

Increase my astonishment, Shiro thought, and remembered the reverent way that Sam would say it, when they saw something new or unpredicted or beautiful. As if astonishment could always be increased, and that was always something to wish for.

Shiro knows he's forgotten a lot, but he has a feeling he never actually expected to make it back to Earth. The second thing he knows is that he can't stay.

    Summary

Prisoners in solitary confinement, Shiro had read, get through it by keeping to a strict routine. Or at least, the ones that survive it reasonably intact have all imposed a pattern of organization on their days. Funnily enough, long manned missions also kept a strict routine.

Shiro wanted to see the universe. The Kerberos mission crew might have been abducted by an evil interstellar empire, but he's sort of getting his wish.

Shiro deals with being a captive and what it means for his crew, Earth's chances, and him.

    Summary

Being an amputee with a prosthetic limb is difficult enough. Having a solid metal alien prosthetic forced on you by another species entirely is even worse.

    OR:

Five times Shiro’s Galra arm caused him trouble in some way and another member of the team helped him out with it, and the one time the same arm is the only reason any of them survive.

    Summary

Grian stepped closer, frowning. The painting showed a man so steeped in some private horror that it billowed off the coarse linen canvas. It showed a figure that’d had a hand completely covering its face, Grian had thought, except now he could see an eye through those opened fingers, bright as an emerald and startled into wonderment, which was strange because verdigris should’ve darkened to brown too –

The eye was staring at him. Two eyes were staring at him, wide and shocked and delighted, and Grian had clearly hit his head on his way out of the vent, because the painting had changed. The figure hadn’t moved, exactly, but its position had shifted like a cel in an animated sequence. The man was standing, smiling, his teeth a white smear against the dark canvas.

“Oh, no, I’m hallucinating,” Grian groaned.
