Summary
What would have happened if Governor Swann had stabbed the heart of Davy Jones? Perhaps he would become empty, hollow. Perhaps he would become vengeful. Perhaps this would provide an opportunity, and he would say things propriety had kept him from, and go to lengths he had not known before.
Ye be warned: this fic is pretty full of angst, but has some touching moments between Weatherby and James.

“It doesn’t matter what I do.” Weatherby’s voice carried with it a new monotony, a more even tone than his former exuberance allowed. “Once my usefulness has run its course, Beckett will kill me. Completely.”
“Someone has to take your place.” James had turned to him fully now, outlined by dimming light.
He still doesn’t understand. “It isn’t a promotion, is it?” James stared at him, eyes full of questions, and this time, Weatherby did reach out, placing a hand on James’ shoulder. “Your sense of duty has served you, James.” He hadn’t used the man’s Christian name in so long, it felt almost foreign. “But Beckett has a way of twisting even the best parts of us.”
It was a shame, a fear, a grief Weatherby had never seen in the Admiral, not in all their years knowing each other. But there was a determination there, too, an acceptance. James will bear any burden asked of him.
“The dark side of ambition,” James whispered, hoarse. Then, taking a breath, “How bad is the pain? When they take out the heart.”

A slight change in circumstances, and it could easily have been him and his crew who were swallowed by the blackness of the sea. She has been accompanying him on his travels more frequently since it happened – perhaps so her rational, steady presence can ward off any bad luck that stalks the ships of this company; perhaps so if lightning does strike twice, at least they will be lost together.
The telegram flutters in his hand. Such an insignificant little thing. Even so, if he were a more superstitious man, he would say that he can sense a wrongness in the air. The sea a little too still, the sun a little too bright. Maura, beside him, is a little paler than she usually is, her hand trembling on his arm.
He shakes himself. He is imagining things.

Summary
The House was a rose in the garden of the Empire, and the Empire watered its garden with blood.
It had been many long years since the last feeding. But the Empire did not let its roses wilt, and the House’s patience was rewarded one fine morning not long after the new Crawleys’ arrival, when Tom Branson arrived, young and bright and full of righteous dreams.
Oh, the House sighed when he appeared on the gravel drive. Love at first sight. Here is one just for me.

And she saw things. She saw the housemaid who didn't know her place. She saw past Barrow's scheming and into his suffering. Worst of all by far, when the war brought its ghoulish illumination she saw the way the House kept the Family to itself and accused them all of being useless . As if a Great House was not a purpose unto itself. As if the strict maintenance of the rules everyone else followed was not essential to the survival of the Empire.
The real monster was the centuries of imperialism we profited from along the way, or, a genuinely horrifying story about legacies, myth-making, and inevitability, from the perspective of a very patient House.

Summary
Commodore James Norrington did not believe in ghosts. He did not believe in mermaids, krakens, Davy Jones or his locker of legend. Sailors might be a superstitious lot as a whole, but James had little time for such foolishness. It only got in the way.
But when he comes face-to-face with Elizabeth Swann, who he saw lost to pirates at age 12, James is forced to reconsider his stance on the supernatural. And when she pulls him headlong into conspiracy, and as more that he'd thought gone forever rises from the dead, James begins to question everything else, too.

“Do you know why they call me Captain Hood?” she asked, after what she must have hoped was a dramatic pause.
He raised an eyebrow. “Because you are a captain, and Hood is your name.”
“Hood is not my name, but it is what they call me. Can you hazard why?” She cocked her head to the side the way a normal woman might while flirting.
“I hope it is nothing so trite as an allusion to the bandit of folklore,” he replied with a sigh.
Unfortunately, this seemed to delight her. “That is it precisely,” she crowed. “It is your Lord Beckett and his ilk who are the true thieves, James. When I take from them to give to the poor, I’m dealing out justice, not piraticism.”
“Piracy,” he corrected automatically. And then, because the zeal in her voice had disturbed him with its sincerity: “Do not make the mistake of believing that he is ‘my’ Lord Beckett.”
the character voices are excellent, the tension is unbearable, and James Norrington & Elizabeth Swann are going to take down Lord Beckett together. what more can you ask for?

It feels like that will be her place forever more: behind Mary, in front of Sybil, a long way behind Mamma and with what feels like the length of half a county between her and Grandmamma.
The candles are lit on the dining room table. Anna is standing up straight in a very clean uniform beside the door, eyes downcast, hands folded in her starched apron. Papa wouldn't let a woman serve his dinner when there was company in the house, but that was before the war came. Sybil treads on Edith's train and claps a hand to her mouth and grimaces with laughter in her eyes by way of apology, and Mary looks back at both of them with a distant, underwatery disgust.
In America, Mamma says, a bride takes precedence over everybody for the whole first year that she's married.
But this isn't America. And it seems like there will always be Mary, with her cold porcelain face, floating half a step in front of Edith from now until the grave.
One way Edith's life might have turned out, had things shaken out differently. Beautiful characterization and voices, and a deeply ambiguous, sharp Edith, who's every bit as venomous and brittle as she is in the show.

Once there was a man called Edwin Jarvis and a woman called Ana Jarvis. They lived in a world of Nitramene and Zero Matter. There was a car, which could, on rare occasions, be made to fly.
Wistful and mournful by turns, a great series of observations about what Vision inherited (or not) from Edwin Jarvis, and how his relationship with Wanda does(/n't) follow said precedent, post CA:CW.

Summary
They have scattered bundles of days together. Never more than a week, sometimes as little as two hours. Sometimes they just chat, other times they spend whole days around each other. Affection is easy - for Wanda affection has always been easy with those she trusts, it is just that for almost twenty years the only person she truly trusted was her brother. But she trusts Vision, knows she is safe around him, so he gets affection too, and he seems to return it in equal measure, no more or less than what she offers him.

Vision shrugs. “I’m a homunculus of science,” he says. “But all of my makers barring Helen tie back to you.”
“A homunculus made by a witch,” Wanda says, smiling.
“Or…,” Vision trails off, but he’s smiling, watching Wanda in a way that is almost teasing. “There’s a simpler answer.”
Wanda raises an eyebrow. “Oh?”
Vision’s smile is something brilliant. “Maybe I’m your familiar.”
The two years between Civil War and Infinity War, and how Wanda and Vision got from Leipzig to Edinburgh. Top-shelf characterization and though the ending is foreboding, wonderfully joyful.

Elizabeth’s breath caught in her chest. James had never spoken to her like this. So intimately. Valuing the contents of her heart in a world where a woman’s feelings were rarely considered, let alone taken seriously. Speaking of her love as something she alone retained sovereignty over, when Elizabeth had seen since a young age how the sovereignty of a woman’s body and fate lay in the hands of fathers, husbands, or simply the highest bidder. She found herself completely taken aback in surprise and guilty for having so quickly suspected his intentions.
The characterization of everyone in CotBP is spot-the-hell-on, the weight the narrative gives to Elizabeth's struggle to carve out a life she can stand while desperately searching for the life she wants, the larger linkages to Jack's and Barbossa's lives as pirates beyond the law, as well as Will's life on the margins of the "respectable" world are just so good. Absolutely elevates the source material.

Is that selfish of him? That’s something he hasn’t considered before. He would gladly die to see justice done in this case, but if he’s unable to keep his promise to Hae-Young to keep being there—does that make him selfish? Does it mean he’s just trading one kind of injustice for another?
Excellent companion piece to the show, that really nails the feeling of both foreboding and possibility in Lee Jae-han and Park Hae-young's conversations, and what can and can't change. The plus one conversation, post-canon, really is balm for the soul.

She doesn’t think much about the past anymore. On good days, she’ll open up all the windows to let in the fresh air and play Le nozze di Figaro on the phonograph while she dusts the furniture, and when she has a little time to spare between cleaning and preparing for dinner she will curl up in her favorite chair in the library and read. In the safety of the doctor’s study, she effortlessly travels from the wildflower-covered hills of the English countryside to the hot Egyptian desert to the jungles of Brazil and back. Sometimes Cyrus will pick up a bouquet for her while out on his errands, and she will take her time carefully arranging the stems so they are just right for when the doctor comes home. When they begin to wilt she will take the best one and press it so she can tape it into her scrapbook. She has filled three books already—cherry blossoms and ferns, roses and carnations; small beautiful things that bring joy. This is what she wants to remember.
A lyrical, lovely fix-it where Mary gets to be angry, Stevie and Cyrus are important parts of her emotional life, and Laszlo's style of flirtation is still mostly medical knowledge.

Perfect companion piece to the movie, and it gives Martha Huggins some well-deserved attention.

This is *the* fanfic. The best deconstruction (lovingly and creatively done!) of soulmark-AUs, extensive and fascinating worldbuilding for how soulmarks might have affected laws and culture in 18th and 19th century Europe, a focus on the limitations Regency society placed on women of various socioeconomic statuses that Miss Austen herself would have approved of, and hands-down the most true-to-canon characterization of all parties involved. And excellent OCs! And Real People! Plus! It's choose your own adventure! Is the canon ending Lizzie Bennet with Fitzwilliam Darcy, Colonel Fitzwilliam, or the Duke of Wellington? Your call!
Also, there is an outtake where Fitzwilliam Darcy is forced by circumstance to interact with Lord Byron, and it goes okay. What more could anyone want?

“He didn’t live long enough for someone who spoke enough English to write down his whole story. But the pieces the Portuguese got from him told a tale all their own. The Spanish gold was gone. The wine was transformed like the blood of Christ. There was no battle but there’d been a leak, an endless sucking sound in the hold, like meat out the shell of a crab, and whenever the Captain sent a man to plug it up he didn’t come back. They kept sailing in circles. The stars were wrong. He kept saying that, the stars were wrong.
“And helmsman’s last words were maybe this will be enough."
Botteril hisses a breath in through his teeth, his shoulders quaking just a little. “Enough for who?”
Damn. Just, damn.
