“I love music.”
The admission rushes out of her, like it’s waited years to come out - and perhaps it has.
“But I love heroism, too.” Kyouka continues before she can think too much about it. “And I- and I didn’t want to waste the years I spent playing music, but… but I cared too much.”
“You cared too much about the world around you.” Yaomomo prompts her gently, and Kyouka nods, trying not to clench her hands again.
She exhales. “I wanted to fight for other people. I- I wanted to be a hero. But I loved music so much, too, and I-”
“Love.” Yaomomo corrects, ever gently. She’s so gentle with her. Kyouka hates that she doesn’t feel like she deserves it.
A tear runs down her face. “It feels terrible, and I thought I could try to avoid… avoid all this, avoid all this conflict between my interests but it-”
“It’s tearing you apart.”
“It’s tearing me apart.” Kyouka admits, because it is. It’s tearing apart the love that she wants to give.
OR: While most people would kill for having a passion they would run to the ends of earth for, Jirou Kyouka is cursed with two, pulling her in opposite directions. Lucky for her, though, her friends aren't going to let her tear apart.

If someone had asked Kyouka Jirou about Katsuki Bakugou at the beginning of U.A., she'd say he was a violent, aggressive person with the self-control of a fucking 2-year-old; an enigma with actions that she just couldn't figure out, never mind think about how he even got into Yuuei.
But if you were to ask her now, she would tell you that he's a hero, however complicated he might behave or talk.
It's a huge shift, she knows, but their friendship is anything but linear.
Or, a study of hard times, trauma, and stubbornness told through the friendship of Bakugou Katsuki and Jirou Kyouka.
