It was the sun that woke Rooster up. Shining directly into his eyes until he groaned and tried to roll over. He immediately regretted it, as his ribs screamed at him in protest and his head throbbed even more in protest of the slight movement.
Something about the light was bothering him, other than the physical effects. 'shouldn't it be dark by now?' Rooster thought woozily, 'was I knocked out for a whole day?'
He managed to squeeze his eyes open with great difficulty, and was greeted with a sight that made him question if he had actually woken up.
"What the fuck."
The sky yawned above him, wide and clear.

Shane straightened instinctively. He and Ilya were both sponsored by CCM, they had been for years. Would CCM pull their sponsorships now that they were publicly out? Would they only want to keep working with one of them now that they were married and would be playing on the Centaurs together this season?
“They want you two for a new ad campaign,” she continued, eyes sparkling. “A twelve-year retrospective referencing the one you shot together the summer before your rookie year.”

Yuna smiles at him, the corners of her mouth tightening with some emotion he can’t fully understand. “We just wanted you to feel at home.”
Ilya looks down. His nose burns, the ribbons wrapped around the green paper swimming together in a red haze as his eyes inexplicably fill with tears. Squeezing the box so hard the paper wrinkles, tearing at the top where his thumb presses against it, he takes a deep breath, trying to find the words to explain how he wouldn’t know what that felt like. Not before Shane anyway.
