Summary
There’s dirt in his mouth, his eyes, his nose, his fucking ears. There’s entire ecosystems underneath his fingernails, digging into his body and taking him over, filling him up with dirt until there’s nothing of him left. He can’t feel anything– he can feel everything. His lungs squeezing with each minute that he goes without air, his broken and bloody nails screaming in pain as he claws through the dirt. His muscles are so tired, begging for him to just take a break, stop for a moment and rest, but he can’t, he can’t go back– he needs– he needs his dad. He needs to see him, to be back with his family, to have them hold him and take care of him and tell him that everything will be okay.

Jason comes back completely sane, and his first task is to find his family. Too bad they dont seem to like that.

Jason Todd was dead for two years before he came back and dig his way out of his grave. Free from brain damage, never chucked into a Lazarus Pit, he still struggles with the realizations of the ways he's been left behind and misrepresented -- and outright rejected.
Jason whump with both more and less abject betrayal than in canon. -

Jason's always hated the words scrawled down the side of his chest, a black 'See you later' decreed by fate as the last words his soulmate will ever say to him. On the other hand, though they're just as generic, Dick's never seemed concerned about the 'Thank you' printed between his shoulder blades. Neither of them ever even considered that they might match.

It was almost impossible to envision Dick decked out in glitter and spandex. No matter how he’d reach out to stroke Eleanor as if he had seen greater heights than all the rainforests of the world could offer. No matter how his eyes danced like the circus or his lips played carnie games. Jason could not quite reconcile the kid before him with the Boy Wonder of small-time circus lore.

What if Batman did save the Flying Graysons? What if Jason Todd didn't become a homeless orphan quite as early? (And the Court of Owls isn't an issue.) Two teenagers who've never been vigilantes meet when Jason runs away to join the circus. Jason integrated with the circus, finding a new family, but the two young men may be playing with fire in more than a few ways when they tackle a resurgent threat by bringing in Batman. Angst and puns and cute JayDick.
