Chapter Text

“Whatsup, TetsuNation!” Kuroo grinned at the camera. “Today, I’m taking you all with me to the gym.” He flexed his arms dramatically. “I’ll even show you my routine… sets, reps, the whole thing.” He looked away for a second, then winked at the camera. “Anyways… let’s grab my gym bag and get goinggg.”

______________________________________________

“Ugh… dammit!” Kenma muttered, gripping his controller. “I can’t beat this level.” Pixel, his kitten, nuzzled his hand. “Any ideas, Chat?” He hesitated, then added quietly, “I mean… Kittens.”

@bonii - WE WONN GUYSS HE CALLED US KITTENS!!!!

@jetwheel - LETS GOOO!!!

@megagames - maybe try going through the other door, then before the fan falls get out of the way. after it falls, then get in the box?

Kenma glanced at the suggestion and smirked. “Huh… not bad.” He tried it, and finally beat the level. “Alright… 12 levels today. Not terrible.” He leaned back. “Catch you later, Kittens.”

Later, after his workout, Kuroo wiped the sweat off his forehead. “Thanks for watching, TetsuNation! See you next time!” He lowered the camera. “Man… I’m wiped. And… yeah, I need a shower.”

Back at the apartment, Bokuto called from the couch, “Hey Kuroo, welcome home.”

“Hey, I’m heading to the shower. Just finished a gym vlog. See ya,” Kuroo said, tossing his bag down.

“Sure, sure,” Bokuto replied, rolling his eyes.

Minutes later, fresh from the shower, Kuroo leaned on the doorframe. “Hey… you know Kozume? Kenma Kozume?”

Bokuto blinked. “Uh… yeah? He’s that insane gamer everyone keeps talking about.”

“Right. Do you know anything else about him?”

“Just… he’s cute and lives in Tokyo, like us. Why?”

Kuroo flopped onto the couch, Tiger following him. “My viewers keep telling me to collab with him.”

“I’d say go for it. He seems cool,” Bokuto shrugged.

Kuroo sat up and grinned. “Yeah… I think I will.” He grabbed his laptop and started scrolling. “Let’s see… 274 million daily viewers… wow. He really is big.”

“YOOO, IT’S HINATA!” Kenma grinned and turned the camera toward him. “Good morning, Kitt—uh, whatever. Today, we’re playing Fall Guys. Per Hinata’s request.”

At the end of the stream:

“Hey Kenma, how do I respond to this?” Hinata held up his phone, showing an obvious spam email.

Kenma leaned back on the couch, crossing his legs. “Hinata… just delete it. That’s spam. Also, I should probably check my emails…”

“Yeah, you’re right. I’ll just delete it.”

Hinata hesitated. “Er… do you know Kuroo? Like, kingkuroo? He emailed me asking to collab. I’ve been getting a lot of comments about him too.”

Kenma nodded. “Oh, I know him. He does vlogs, funny stuff… yeah, I think you should collab with him.”

Hinata groaned and got up. “Eugh.”

Morning of the collab:

Kenma stretched and yawned. “Kuroo’s coming over today… not sure how I should feel. Nervous, but also excited to see him.”

*DOORBELL RINGS*

“HINATA, GO ANSWER THE DOOR!” Kenma called from his room, Hinata in the kitchen.

“I’M GOING!” Hinata yelled back. “Oh, hey, you’re Kuroo, right?”

“Positive. Is Kenma here? We’re recording today,” Kuroo said, standing at the apartment door.

“Yeah, he’s in his room. I’ll go get him. Come inside, you can wait in the living room.”

*KNOCKS ON DOOR*

“Kenma, Kuroo’s here.”

“Okay, okay… I’m coming. WHERE THE HELL ARE MY PANTS?!

Kenma enters the living room. “Hey, sorry to keep you waiting. I just woke up.”

“No, it’s fine.”

“Okay, should we do the interview first?” Kenma asked, sitting on the couch next to Kuroo.

“Yeah, let me get the questions from my roommate.”

“Okay, let’s get started.”

_________________________________________

“What’s up, TetsuNation! We’re here with Kenma. Today we’ll be doing an interview via questions from my roommate, Bokuto.”

“Rank these: sleep, snacks, gaming, and… me,” Kuroo said, grinning and trying not to say “me” out loud.

“Gaming, sleep, snacks… you,” Kenma replied, looking away.

“…I’ll take it.”

“You shouldn’t.”

“Would you ever stream with Bokuto if he drank a few energy drinks beforehand?”

“Hmm… no.”

“Not even for the views?”

“He’d make me lose the views,” Kenma said jokingly. They both laughed.

“Thanks for watching! See y’all next time, TetsuNation!” Kuroo and Kenma waved as the video ended.

“Bokuto is really something…” Kenma muttered.

“Something is an understatement,” Kuroo laughed. “I’m hungry now.”

“Oh, I can order something if you want,” Kenma offered.

“How about I cook you lunch? I’m kinda amazing at cooking,” Kuroo said.

Kenma chuckled. “That’d be awesome.”

Summary:

kenma and kuroo go and get ingredients to make curry

Notes:

this will be a short one, since im busy until later tn

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Kenma and Kuroo walk to the grocery store together, laughing and talking the whole way. There’s no awkwardness, it feels like they’ve known each other their whole lives.

“Well, TetsuNation, we’re on our way to the store to get some food so I can cook for Kenma,” Kuroo says, pointing the camera at him.

Kenma glances at the camera and gives a faint, almost shy smile.

Kenma laughs at something Kuroo said. Not a small chuckle—an actual out-loud laugh, which he doesn’t do often with most people.

“You know… you’re really funny, Kuroo,” Kenma says, looking up at him.

“Hah… I mean, that’s part of the reason I’m a famous YouTuber,” Kuroo replies, meeting Kenma’s eyes briefly before clearing his throat and looking away, clearly flustered. “Oh look, there’s the store,” he adds, opening the door for Kenma.

“Oh, thanks,” Kenma says with a small smile as they walk inside.

“Wait, I need to record still,” Kuroo remembers, raising the camera again.

“Alright guys, we’ve made it to the store. Let’s see… what should we make?”

“We could make curry?” Kenma suggests.

“Ouh, great idea! Let’s grab the ingredients,” Kuroo says, and they head off together.

After collecting everything, they meet back at the register.

“Here, you’re cooking for me. I’ll pay,” Kenma says, pulling out his card.

Kuroo takes it with a grin and hands it back. “What kind of guest would I be if I didn’t pay?” he chuckles as he pays.

Kenma stands there, a little stunned.

“Oh… thank you. I just need to take this call really quick. I’ll be waiting outside,” he says, stepping away to call Hinata.

“Hello? Kenma?” Hinata’s voice sounds groggy, clearly just waking up.

“HINATA! YOU WERE SO RIGHT!”

“Kenma, slow down… I was right? About what?”

Kuroo exits the store carrying two bags.

“Er… gotta go. I’ll talk to you later. Bye!” Kenma hurries and ends the call.

“Ready to go?” Kuroo asks.

“Yeah. Need help carrying those?” Kenma offers.

“No, no, I’m good. Let’s just go.” They start walking, Kuroo raising the camera again. “Okay, so we got the ingredients for curry. Now we just need to get back to the apartment. I’ll see y’all when we get there.”

Once again, he stops recording as they continue walking back to the apartment.

Chapter Text

Kuroo and Kenma are back at the apartment after the grocery store. Kuroo sets the bags down on the counter while Kenma sits on a stool, watching.

"Alright, TetsuNation," Kuroo says, pointing the camera at himself and then at Kenma, "we’re gonna cook some curry today. Kenma's 'helping,' right?" He smirks.

Kenma raises an eyebrow. "I'll help… by handing you ingredients."

Kuroo laughs. "That's what I love about you."

Kenma feels a subtle smile creeping into his face but looks away, trying not to show it.

Kuroo starts chopping vegetables while Kenma grabs ingredients from the bags and passes them to him. Kenma watches carefully but stays quiet most of the time, occasionally glancing at the camera with a faint smile.

"Okay, guys," Kuroo says into the camera, "we’ve got all our ingredients. Kenma’s doing the heavy lifting here, passing me stuff. So far, he's killing it."

Kenma mutters, "I think I’m doing more than killing it… I’m being very efficient."

Kuroo laughs. "Efficient, sure. That’s one way to put it."

Once the vegetables are chopped, Kuroo starts cooking them in a pan while Kenma carefully measures out the spices.

"Hey, hand me the curry powder, Kenma."

Kenma passes it over. "Here you go."

"Perfect, you’re a natural," Kuroo jokes, "maybe next time you can do the actual cooking."

Kenma just shrugs. "I'm fine just supervising…"

Kuroo glances at Kenma’s laptop. "Alright, wait Kenma what do you call your fans?"

"I-i uhh k-kittens.." He says silently obviously cringing.

"Well 'Kittens' we’re going live for Kenma’s channel now! Say hi, Kenma."

Kenma waves slightly. "Hi… and yes, I am 'helping.'"

Kuroo laughs at the camera. "Yeah, he’s smiling. I caught it! Look at that, TetsuNation, my boy’s smiling for the camera."

Kenma glances down, faintly flushed.

Kuroo stirs the pan. "Now, we’re gonna add the veggies. Kenma, can you hand me the garlic?"

"Here," Kenma says, passing it over carefully.

Kuroo grins. "Perfect. You’re a natural sous-chef." He winks at the camera. "TetsuNation, I’m not kidding, he’s amazing at this."

@bigfan3 - I NEED THEM TO COLLAB MORE 😭

@bigfan4 - kenma actually looks happy?? my babies 🥹

Kuroo laughs quietly. "Yeah, I’m breaking him out of his shell one ingredient at a time." He glances at Kenma. "And yes, he’s blushing a little. Don’t deny it."

"And now we add the final ingredient… love," Kuroo says dramatically, stirring the curry.

Kenma snorts. "That’s not an ingredient, Kuroo."

"It is when you’re cooking for someone," Kuroo replies, smirking at him.

Kenma’s face warms again, but he can’t help the tiny smile.

The curry is done. They plate it and sit down with the camera on the counter, showing off their final dish.

"Alright, TetsuNation," Kuroo says, "here’s the finished product. Kenma did most of the 'helping.' Let’s see if it tastes as good as it looks."

Kenma takes a small bite. "It’s… good. You didn’t mess it up."

Kuroo laughs and nods at the camera. "Victory! Thanks for tuning in, everyone. Catch you on the next stream. And Kenma… thanks for your ‘help.’"

Kenma rolls his eyes but smiles faintly. Anytime.

Chapter Text

Kuroo and Kenma are back Streaming, sitting on the couch with the game console hooked up. Kuroo has the controller in hand, and Kenma sits calmly with a headset.

"Alright, k-kittens" Kenma says, cringing while pointing the camera toward himself and Kuroo. "today, we’re doing a horror game… and Kuroo's going first." He smirks.

"I’m a little nervous… okay, I’m a lot nervous." Kuroo says, doing a fake shiver

Kenma yawns. "I’m ready. Let’s just… play."

Kuroo glances at the chat. "Yeah, yeah, laugh it up chat. I’m the one who’s gonna scream first." He says rolling his eyes sarcastically

The game starts. Creepy music fills the room. Kuroo’s eyes widen immediately. "Uh… okay… what was that noise?!"

Kenma doesn’t flinch. "It’s part of the game. Keep moving."

Kuroo jumps at every little sound. "Did you hear that? That wasn’t supposed to happen!"

Kuroo hides behind his hands for a moment. "Why is it so dark here?! Why does it move like that?!"

Kenma calmly walks through a hallway in-game. "It’s just an enemy. Don’t overthink it."

Kuroo groans. "Overthink it? I’M TERRIFIED! THIS IS HORRIBLE!"

Kenma pauses in-game and looks at Kuroo. "It’s literally just a jump scare. You’ll be fine."

Kuroo flinches. "FINE?! Chat I might actually die!"

Kenma rolls his eyes but doesn’t look startled. "It’s fine. You’re fine." He smirks slightly. "How is he like this?"

Kuroo peeks out. "I am NOT fine! I swear, Kenma, you’re enjoying this too much, aren’t you?"

Kenma shrugs. "I told you. I’m fine." He calmly opens a door in-game and steps past a lurking enemy.

@bigfan5 - kenma literally so unbothered

Kuroo jumps again as the game makes a sudden loud noise. "NOPE!!" He throws the controller on the couch, curling up behind Kenma’s shoulder. "Chat I can’t do this! Someone save me!"

Kenma sighs. "Relax. You’re exaggerating." He moves carefully through the game. "See? Nothing happened." Kenma doesn't move though. He just lets Kuroo hide behind him.. he kinda enjoys it.

Kuroo peeks over Kenma’s shoulder. "Nothing… nothing?! That was the loudest thing I’ve ever heard! Kenma, how are you not screaming?!"

Kenma shrugs. "I'm just… used to this stuff."

Kuroo groans, dragging the blanket over himself. "… if I survive this, I’ll never play another horror game again."

Kenma chuckles quietly. "You’re overreacting. Keep going."Kenma faces towards Kuroo and hold his chin so he could see Kuroo's face. (lowkey rizz) He glances at the camera and waves. "See? It’s fine, guys."

Kuroo mutters from under the blanket, "I don’t think I can… I’m going to die here…" and jumps again at the next sound effect.

Kenma calmly defeats the first monster in the game and pats Kuroo’s shoulder. "See? Nothing. You’re fine." He smirks at the camera. "Maybe he’ll survive the whole thing without screaming again… probably not."

Kuroo whines. "Kenma’s enjoying this way too much! I think I might die!"

They continue playing, Kenma calm as ever, and Kuroo panicking at every jump scare while the viewers laugh in chat.

Chapter Text

Kuroo and Kenma shut off the console after the last horror game jump scare.

Kuroo dramatically slumps onto the couch.
“Kenma… I think my soul actually left my body at least twice.”

Kenma stretches, completely unfazed. “You’ll be fine. You’re just dramatic.”

Kuroo sits up. “I’m literally traumatized.”

Kenma stands. “Okay, well… good luck with that.”

Kuroo blinks. “Wait, uh… how do I get home? The trains don’t run past 1 AM.”

Kenma checks the time.

1:43 AM.

Kenma freezes.
“…Oh.”

Kuroo rubs his eyes. “I guess I’ll just.. idk, sleep outside?”

Kenma crosses his arms. “You’re not sleeping outside.”

Kuroo perks up a little. “So…?”

“…You can stay here,” Kenma mutters, clearly regretting it instantly.

Kuroo grins. “Awww, you care—”

“I don’t. You’re just too loud to leave alone outside.” Kenma says

Kenma sighs “You are not a celebrity.”

Kuroo’s Camera Turns On

Kuroo sits cross-legged on the living room floor, hair messy, hoodie on backward because he’s tired.

“What’s up, TetsuNation… it’s like 2 AM and I’m trapped.” Kuroo exaggerates.

He zooms in on Kenma, who is sitting wrapped in a blanket burrito.
“This is my kidnapper"

Kenma glares. “You got stuck here because you couldn’t handle a horror game. That’s not my problem.”

Kuroo laughs. “Anyway, since I can’t go home, Kenma is letting me sleep on the couch.”

Kenma adjusts his blanket. “Don’t make it sound like I wanted you to.”

Kuroo smirks. “Sure sure, whatever lets you sleep at night.”

Kenma tosses the pillow at his head. “You can’t use my good pillow. That’s mine.”

Kuroo catches it dramatically. “Wow. Heartless.”

Kenma shrugs. “It’s expensive.”

Kuroo sets the pillow down. “Anyway, thanks for the hospitality.. even though you hate me.”

Kenma blinks slowly. “I don’t hate you. You’re just… loud.”

Kuroo laughs softly. “I can live with that.”

Kuroo points the camera at both of them.

“So, before we go to sleep, Kenma, out of 10, how good of a guest am I?”

Kenma thinks for a second. “…Four.”

“FOUR?!” Kuroo dramatically falls back onto the couch.

Kenma smirks. “You screamed for two hours straight. That deducts points.”

Kuroo sits up. “Okay, sure, fair enough.”

Kenma stands up. “Goodnight. Don’t touch anything. Don’t break anything. Don’t scream.”

Kuroo bows. “Aye aye, captain.”

Kenma rolls his eyes and walks to his room.
“Goodnight, Kuroo.”

Kuroo watches him go, then whispers to the camera:

“He said goodnight. Progress.”

He turns off the camera.

Chapter Text

Kuroo wakes up to the sound of something clattering in the kitchen.

He flinches, then screams "AHHH GHOST" thinking it's his dream.

Then he remembers:
He’s on Kenma’s couch.
It’s morning.
He survived the night.

Kuroo sits up slowly, hair sticking out in twelve different directions, hoodie still on backward because he never fixed it. The blanket Kenma gave him is tangled around his legs like it tried to choke him in his sleep.

From the kitchen, Kenma mutters, “I heard that.”

Kuroo groans. “Kenmaaaa… why are you awake? It’s Saturday.”

Kenma appears in the doorway holding a bowl of cereal and looking offended.
“I always wake up early.”

Kuroo blinks at him. “…Are you a grandma?”

Kenma chuckles then shrugs. “Maybe.”

---

Kuroo turns on his vlog camera

He gives the camera a tired peace sign.

“Morning guys.. It’s 8 AM" Kuroo checks his phone then shows the camera. "Kenma woke up at dawn like some kind of weirdo”

Kenma walks behind him, spoon in mouth, blanket still wrapped around his shoulders like a cape.

“I didnt wake up at dawn. I woke up at seven.”

“Exactly,” Kuroo says.

Kenma squints at the camera. “Why are you recording at 8 AM? Your viewers don’t care.”

“They need updates,” Kuroo argues. “They’re invested. This is basically a saga now.”

Kenma rolls his eyes so hard they almost fall out.
“This is not a saga. You just slept on my couch.”

Kuroo dramatically clutches his chest. “This is slander. Defamation.”

Kenma keeps eating.
“Whatever helps you cope.”

Kuroo Zooms In on Kenma

“Look at this man,” Kuroo narrates. “Look at him refusing to admit he enjoyed having me here.”

Kenma mutters into his cereal, “I didn’t.”

Kuroo raises an eyebrow. “Then why’d you give me your warm blanket?”

Kenma chokes on his cereal. “IT WAS THE CLOSEST ONE.”

Kuroo smirks. “Mm-hm. Sure.”

Kenma stops mid chew. “Again?”

Kuroo nods sadly. “Guess I’m stuck here for a little longer…” he looks at Kenma, then smirks.

Kenma sighs, long and dramatic, like he’s trying to convince himself he’s annoyed.
“…Fine.”

Kuroo grins. “You’re secretly happy.”

“I’m secretly tired,” Kenma corrects.

Kuroo reaches for the cereal box. “So what’s for breakfast?”

Kenma smacks his hand away. “Not that.”

Kenma hands Kuroo a cup of coffee
Kuroo blinks down at the cup.
“…You made me coffee?”

Kenma doesn’t look at him.
“No. I made coffee. For everyone. You just happened to be here. Here at my apartment.”

But Kuroo smiles into the mug anyway, because it’s the exact way he likes it.

Hinata walks out of his room and sees the smile and wiggles his eyebrows like he knows something.

He doesn’t.
…Probably.

Hinata sets up his little camera for a stream while Kenma adjusts his lighting.

“So,” Kenma says, “we’re doing a 3 playyer morning gaming challenge"

"Winner gets breakfast made for them by the losers!” Hinata jumped up

“You are not cooking for me,” Kenma says instantly.

Kuroo stretches. “Yeah, kid, we all know you’ll just microwave something on fire.”

Hinata gasps in betrayal. “Kuroo!! I can cook some things!”

“Name three,” Kuroo challenges.

“…toast. water.. precut fruit.”

Kenma: “Water is not cooking.”

Hinata: “IT CHANGES TEMPERATURE.”

The bickering fills the apartment, bouncing off the walls, light and yelling.
Kuroo feels himself relaxing despite the noise. Despite the weird, warm twist in his chest every time Kenma’s shoulder brushes his when they squeeze around the coffee table to set up controllers.

Hinata watches them both with a little too much interest.
Then he smirks.

“So… Kuroo. You stayed the night?”

Kenma freezes.
Kuroo chokes on his coffee.

“It was late,” Kenma says quickly, ears slightly pink. “The trains weren't running by the time we finished streaming.”

“Yeah,” Kuroo adds. “And Kenma would cry if I left.”

Kenma elbows him in the ribs.
Hard.

Hinata laughs like he just witnessed a sitcom.

During the game challenge, Kuroo and Kenma end up sitting too close. Not purposely.. Kenma’s couch is big but, Hinata keeps spreading out like a starfish, and cables cross everywhere. Their knees keep knocking. Their shoulders bump. Their hands brush reaching for the same controller wire.

None of it is anything.
None of it means something.

But Kuroo feels each touch like a spark.. and Kenma doesn’t move away, not even once.

Hinata pauses Kenmas straem, looks between the two of them, and says, “You guys play really in sync.”

Kenma shrugs.
Kuroo forces a casual tone. “We’ve been playing together like all night. Obviously we’d be in sync.”

“Yeah,” Hinata says, smiling too knowingly. “Obviously.”

Kenma kicks him under the table.

A Knock at the Door

Right as Hinata sets up for another round, someone knocks.
Kenma sighs. “I swear if that’s Bokuto-” He gets cut off as the door opens.

It is Bokuto.

He bursts in with Akaashi behind him, arms full of snacks.

“HEY HEY HEY! Kuroo! Kenma! Hinata! Surprise morning visit!! We brought— oh? Did someone have a sleepover?”

Akaashi gives Kuroo a calm, assessing stare.
“…You’re wearing the same clothes as yesterday.”

Kuroo opens his mouth.
Kenma opens his mouth.

Hinata raises Kenmas camera like he’s about to film a scandal.

And Kuroo realizes this is exactly how unnecessary rumors start.

Kenma sighs heavily and says, to everyone,

"The trains weren't running the time we got done filming last night.”

Kuroo shoots him a grateful look.
Kenma pretends not to see.

Akaashi nods. “Reasonable.”

Bokuto beams. “Group breakfast then!! Let’s cook!”

Hinata yells, “NO. I’M COOKIN-” but before he could finish, everyone yells, “NO.”

Kuroo watches the chaos unfold.

Kenma moves past him to grab more coffee beans, his hair brushing Kuroo’s arm.
Kuroo feels it.
Kenma probably does too.
But neither says anything.

Slow burn.
Slow steps.
Nothing obvious.

But something is shifting.
And Kuroo knows it.

Notes:

hey so i actually added more people this time.. maybe fire the next episode kayryama eill come over too 🥹✌️

Chapter 9: Clean Up

Summary:

more people decide to show up, kenma and kuroo clean up

Notes:

okay so basically ill make a chapter 2 or 3 quick chapters later to make up for the past few bad ones 😔🫱😬 but there is more characters in the chapter

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Breakfast ends with Hinata somehow covered in flour, Bokuto bouncing with too much energy for anyone’s safety, and Akaashi silently cleaning up like a tired dad.

Kuroo helps stack plates, because if he doesn’t, Kenma will have to deal with the mess alone later. Kenma doesn’t ask him to help, but Kuroo catches the tiny glance he gives him when he sees the clean counter.

It’s small. Barely anything. But it makes something in Kuroo’s chest go soft.

There’s another knock at the door. This time it’s not explosive. Just two quick taps.

Kenma pauses mid swipe of the counter. “That’s Lev’s knock.”

Kuroo opens the door and yeah, Lev is standing there, smiling like he didn’t already text Kenma nine times this morning.

“Kuroo-san!” Lev beams. Then squints. “You… slept here?”

Kuroo opens his mouth to reply but Yaku appears behind Lev and smacks the back of his head immediately.

“Don’t make assumptions,” Yaku snaps. “Your brain can’t support that many.”

Lev rubs his head, whining. “Ow! I was just asking!”

“Don’t.”

Classic Yaku.

Kenma walks over, not looking at Kuroo but standing close enough their arms nearly touch. “The trains weren’t running,” Kenma explains simply.

Lev brightens. “Oh! That makes sense!” Then he steps inside like he owns the place.

Yaku gives a short nod to Kenma, then to Kuroo. “Good morning. Don’t let Lev touch anything.”

Lev gasps. “I am RESPONSIBLE.”

Akaashi: “No you’re not.”

Everyone spreads out naturally. Hinata shows Lev the stream clip where Kuroo almost fell off the couch last night. Bokuto is dramatically reenacting it in the corner. Yaku is pretending not to watch but is absolutely watching.

Kuroo leans on the counter beside Kenma again. Not on purpose. Just… gravity... probably.

Kenma is rinsing dishes. Kuroo dries them without being asked.

After a minute, Kenma says quietly, “You don’t have to help.”

“I know,” Kuroo says. Then smirks. “But if I don’t, you’ll get swallowed by the water and die.”

Kenma elbows him in the side, not hard, just enough. “Drama king.”

Kuroo laughs under his breath. Kenma doesn’t look at him, but there’s a small, warm something sitting in the space between them.. but of course. The Stream Chat Notices

Hinata suddenly shouts from the living room: “KENMA! Chat thinks Kuroo living here was planned!”

Kuroo nearly drops a plate. Kenma closes his eyes slowly, in pure suffering.

“Tell them no,” Kenma says flatly.

Hinata turns back to the camera. “Chat! Kenma says no—” He pauses. “Okay but they don’t believe me.”

Kuroo walks over before Hinata can make it worse. He ducks into frame, hair slightly messy, hoodie half-zipped.

“Morning,” he says to chat. “No, I don’t live here.”

Immediately, chat explodes on the screen

Kuroo looks at Kenma helplessly.

Kenma sets the plate he was washing down, “The trains weren’t running,” he says, calmly.

Chat goes insane anyway.

Akaashi walks by behind them, glancing at the screen. “That explanation is reasonable,” he says calmly.

Bokuto pops his head in right after. “BUT SUSPICIOUS!!”

Kenma points at him. “Get out.”

Akaashi and Bokuto leave first, Akaashi dragging Bokuto before he can yell more theories. Hinata heads back to his room to get something he forgot and takes the camera with him. Lev runs outside to chase a stray cat (Yaku automatically follows to prevent disaster).

Suddenly, it’s quiet.

Just Kuroo and Kenma in the kitchen.

Kenma wipes the counter slowly. Kuroo pretends to check his phone.

The air feels… different. Not heavy. Just close.

Kenma finally says, “You don’t have to stay longer. I know you have things to do.”

Kuroo looks up. “Do you want me to leave?”

Kenma hesitates.. just barely. Just enough.

“…No,” he says softly. “I don’t.”

And that tiny moment that honesty hits Kuroo harder than any teasing or flirting ever could.

Something is shifting, quietly, naturally, unstoppably.

And Kuroo feels it in every heartbeat.

Chapter Text

The quiet between them doesn’t last long.

Hinata bursts back into the kitchen with the energy of someone who runs on sunlight. “Kenma! Chat wants to know if Kuroo is staying for lunch!”

Kenma freezes mid wipe of the counter. “No.”

Kuroo raises an eyebrow. “Rude.”

Kenma doesn’t look at him. “You don’t even eat lunch at normal times.”

Hinata turns the camera toward them, dramatic gasp and all. “Chat says that means you want him to stay.”

Kenma stares at the camera like it personally offended him. “No it doesn’t.”

Hinata starts reading more. “Kenma, they say the tension is—”

Kenma lunges for the camera. Hinata shrieks and runs away with it, Kuroo laughs under his breath.

Before anything else can happen, there’s another knock at the door. More frantic this time.

Kenma groans quietly. “If that’s Lev again—”

Kuroo opens the door.

It’s not Lev.

It’s Kageyama, behind him are Oikawa and Iwaizumi, arguing like just appeared there during their argument.

Oikawa sees Kuroo and gasps dramatically. “Tetsu! Oh no. You didn’t—did you spend the night?”

Iwaizumi whacks the back of his head before he can continue.

“Hinata said there was breakfast?" Kageyama invites himself inside.

Hinata yells from the other room, “THERE WAS!”

Kuroo steps aside to let the rest of them in. Kenma looks like he’s mentally shutting down.

Oikawa walks straight to the kitchen island, smirking. “Wow, Kenma, you have a lot of people over. Hosting? For Tetsu? Cute.”

The color from Kenmas face fades.

Iwaizumi pats his shoulder like he’s offering condolences. “Ignore him. He’s in a mood.”

Kuroo snorts. “Isn’t he always?”

Oikawa flips his hair. “Some of us are busy actually being famous and athletic"

@kenmaskingdom -KENMA LOOKS SO DONE HELP
_______________________

Kenma finally speaks. “Why are you all here.”

Hinata pops around the corner, still holding the camera. “I told them we were doing an important stream!”

Kenma looks mad. Like actually pissed off.

Kuroo hides a smile behind his hand.

Oikawa leans in. “So what’s this I hear about trains not running and someone ‘accidentally’ staying over?”

“No.”
“No.”
Kenma and Kuroo both say

Oikawa raises and eyebrow, “Suspicious.”

Iwaizumi physically drags him back before he can stir things more. “Enough.”

Kageyama stands awkwardly at the counter. “Uh… i can help cook lunch.. yk since Akaashi said Bokuto is making them all come back.."

Kenma sighs. “Hinata, stop inviting people.”

Hinata grins. “Never.”

Everyone spreads around the small living room like an overly energetic zoo.

Lev and Yaku return, Lev loudly naming the stray cat “Cream Puff.” Yaku calls this a bad decision. Bokuto and Oikawa start bragging about who has more followers. Kageyama and Hinata talk about new hitting skills. Iwaizumi supervises the room like a security guard.

And through all that chaos, Kuroo ends up next to Kenma again.

Not planned. (maybe 🤔)
Just… pulled there.

Kenma glances at him, quick, soft, then looks away. “This is your fault.”

“My fault?” Kuroo smirks. “I didn’t invite the entire influencer world into your apartment.”

“You stayed,” Kenma says, quietly.

Kuroo opens his mouth to respond but Oikawa shouts across the room,

“Why are they standing so close? They’re totally standing close. Iwa-chan, look.”

Iwaizumi doesn’t even look up. “Yeah. They have been really close recently” then he shows everyone his phone. On twitter, a lot of fans and event their friends are making theories.

Kenma chokes on air.

Kuroo pretends he didn’t hear.

The fans notices everything, obviously.

Kenma runs a hand down his face. “I hate this.”

Kuroo bumps his shoulder lightly. “It’s not that bad.”

Kenma doesn’t respond for a second.

Then, barely audible, "You make it worse.”

Kuroo feels his heart flip somewhere stupid.

He tries to keep his voice steady. “In a good way or a bad way?”

Kenma’s ears go pink.

Before he can answer, Bokuto screams, “GROUP Q&A AGAIN!!”

The whole room roars in agreement.

Kenma sighs the sigh of someone who gave up hours ago. “Ten minutes,” he mutters. “And nobody touches my setup.”

Everyone cheers.

Kuroo looks at him, softer this time. “You sure?”

Kenma nods once. “Yeah. Since you’re here.”

Kuroo tries not to show how much that hits him.

Everyone else definitely notices, though.

Oikawa makes a huge gasp. Yaku groans. Hinata almost drops the camera. Lev whispers “romantic” like it’s forbidden knowledge. Iwaizumi shakes his head like he’s seen this theory many times already.

But Kenma just moves toward the couch to start setting up.
Kuroo follows without thinking.
And Kenma gives him that tiny, tiny smile again.
The one that feels like gravity pulling them closer without either of them admitting it.

Chapter 11: Theories

Summary:

fam theory's thread

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

@bokutoswife - ok everyone SHUT UP I HAVE A THEORY ABOUT THE KITCHEN SCENE

@lev.haiba - they’re literally just friends what kitchen scene

@levs3rdwife - LEV DID YOU NOT WATCH THE STREAM YOU WERE IN THE ROOM

@Tetsufan9000 - look. all I’m saying is kuroo’s hand hovered above kenma’s shoulder for like 0.4 seconds. that is NOT platonic

@kenmaswitch - no because why would kuroo look at him like THAT. like sir??? ur whole heart is showing

@kingkuroo - lol y'all are reading too much into this
^
@kozume_ken - agreed

@akaashisbiggestfan - as the smartest person in this fandom I have a full theory: kuroo likes him but is too dumb to realize it and kenma likes him but is too scared to say anything and everyone around them is suffering

@iwaizumi_haj - confirmed. i am one of the people suffering. they’re so obvious it physically hurts me.

@oikawaprince - what REALLY happened, kuroo walked in the kitchen like “where’s kenma” and then pretended to not care when he saw him.

@oikawasgooner - i watched the clip 17 times and slowed it down. kuroo sees kenma and immediately stands straighter. that’s mating behavior

@shoyojumps - GUYS what if kenma only cooked cuz kuroo said he was hungry. THAT’S LOVE

^

@tobio.kageyama - no he cooked because everyone else sucks at it. especially you hinata

^

@bokutoboost - WRONG he cooked because he cares

^

@akaashi.keiji - bokuto stop jumping into fan theory threads

@randomviewer - my theory is that all of them know kuroo and kenma like each other except kuroo and kenma. they’re on level 2 denial.

@kenmaskitten - they’re on level 25 denial. maybe level 30.

@NekomaForever - prediction: slow burn is gonna get so slow that one of them confesses by accident out of frustration

@bokutoboost2 - I think kuroo will say “we’re just friends” and then immediately get jealous when kenma breathes near someone else
^
@lev.haiba - that's exactly what's going to happen. also i thought akaashi told you not to join this stuff

@yamsquad - kenma is gonna be like “why is your face red” and kuroo is gonna say “idk heat maybe” even though it’s literally winter

@tetsunationmom - theory: someone (akaashi) is gonna lock them in a room together cuz he’s tired of the tension
^
@akaashi.keiji - i would NOT do that<

@yakufit - the kitchen scene wasn’t even romantic they’re reading too much into it
^
@kingkuroo - exactly thank you
^
@kozume_ken - this exactly

@everyone - LIE!!!!

@bokutoboost2 - okay but serious theory, the reason kenma didn’t look at kuroo too long is because he WOULD combust. like actually burst into flames.

@lev.haiba - kenma showing affection by doing small things >>>> canon

@tetsuapproved - kuroo asking “you good?” in that voice was basically a confession

@oikawprince - THEORY: kuroo practiced that line in the mirror

^

@iwaizumi_haj - he did not. he is just naturally dramatic.

@kuroken4eva - the way kuroo hovered behind him like “im not touching you, but i want to." IM SICK.

@canonfacts -this is officially the slowest slow burn ive ever seen. they better trip and fall into each other soon or something

@kenmafanclub - watch kuroo realize his feelings only after someone else casually praises kenma and he gets hit by jealousy like a train

@kuroostan - current timeline prediction:
chapter 12 — more denial
chapter 13 — one of them blushes and pretends they’re cold
chapter 15 — someone else says “just date already”
chapter 20 — they finally hold hands

@gamer4 no no they’ll confess in chapter 50 cuz the author likes pain

@yakufit - as long as lev doesn’t ruin it again we’re fine

@lev.haiba HEY

@chatcollective - final theory: kuroken is real, everyone else sees it, and they’re both too socially awkward to do anything about it. end of story.

Chapter 12: Q&A

Summary:

this is like the actual q and a part

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

The living room looks like someone dumped every influencer in Japan into one tiny apartment and hit shuffle.

Kenma sits on the couch, adjusting the camera with the face of someone who regrets ever making friends. Kuroo drops down next to him without asking. Like it’s the most normal thing in the world.

Hinata claps his hands together. “Okay! Everyone ready for the Q and A?!”

Nobody is ready.
Everyone says yes anyway.

Bokuto practically dives into frame. Oikawa tries to push him out so he can be in the center. Iwaizumi yanks him back by the hood. Lev waves at the camera like it’s his mom. Yaku kicks his ankle.

Kenma mutters, “I should’ve stayed asleep today.”

Kuroo leans closer, voice low. “It’s fine. They’re having fun.”

Kenma glances sideways at how close he is. “You’re touching my knee.”

Kuroo moves his knee one inch to the left, barely. “Better?”

Kenma’s ears go pink. “Just start the Q and A.”

Hinata scrolls through questions from the chat.

Hinata reads, “First question! How did everyone end up here?”

Bokuto proudly raises a hand. “We saw food in the background of Kenma’s stream and followed the smell!”

Akaashi sighs. “That’s not what happened.”

Oikawa poses, “Actually, we were invited because Hinata said it was urgent.”

Hinata nods. “It was! Kenma’s eggs were really good.”

Kenma puts his face in his hands.

Chat immediately explodes

Kuroo sits up straighter. “No I’m not.”

Kenma quietly moves half an inch away.

Kuroo notices. He does NOT enjoy it.

Before he can say anything, Oikawa gasps dramatically at a new question. “This one asks, ‘Rate the person sitting closest to you.’ Oh this is perfect.”

Kenma immediately says, “No. Next question.”

“NOOOO,” Lev whines. “We wanna know!”

Yaku smacks him. “No we don’t.”

But Hinata is already reading it out loud again. “Rate the person next to you from one to ten.”

Kageyama looks confused. “Like… in volleyball skill?”

Oikawa rolls his eyes. “No, Tobio-chan. Like attractiveness.”

Kageyama nearly chokes to death.

Hinata slaps his back like a nurse with no training.

Kenma stiffens. Visibly. “I’m not rating anyone.”

“Come on,” Bokuto says. “It’s bonding!”

“No,” Kenma repeats.

Kuroo studies him for a second. “We can skip if you want.”

Kenma looks relieved for half a second, but Oikawa ruins it.

“Oh come on, Tetsu. You scared? Afraid to say you think Kenma is cute?”

Both Kenma and Kuroo turn red on the spot.

Kenma coughs. “Shut up.”

Kuroo turns to the side, pretending he’s not blushing. “He’s being annoying on purpose.”

Iwaizumi drags Oikawa back by the shirt. “Sit. Down.”

Oikawa whines but obeys.

Chat explodes again.

Everyone stares at Kuroo.

Kuroo glares back. “Why are you looking at me?”

Lev lifts a hand. “Because yesterday you literally yelled at me for sitting too close to Kenma.”

Kenma whips his head around. “You WHAT?”

Kuroo sputters. “I did not yell. I just said Lev has long legs and he was taking up space.”

Yaku snorts. “He sat on the opposite side of the room.”

Kuroo is losing this battle, and the fans absolutely LOVE it

Hinata reads, “Who would survive the longest on a deserted island?”

Everyone points at Kenma.

Kenma blinks. “Why me?”

Suna shrugs. “You’d probably sit there nonchalantly, aura farm and mysteriously avoid dying.”

Lev nods. “And you know how to cook.”

Kuroo grins. “I’d team up with him. Strategically.”

Kenma narrows his eyes. “Strategically.”

Kuroo nods. “Yep.”

Kenma mutters something that sounds like, “You’re impossible,” but he doesn’t move away when Kuroo sits a bit closer again.

Chat immediately catches it.

Meanwhile, Bokuto tries to answer a question that nobody asked, Oikawa keeps posing like he’s in a magazine, and Iwaizumi threatens to unplug the whole stream at least five times.

But Kenma just keeps adjusting the camera while Kuroo sits next to him like it’s the one normal thing in the universe.
And maybe… maybe Kenma doesn’t hate it.
He won’t admit that out loud, obviously.

But the small smile he hides behind his hair says enough.
Even if he’d rather die than say it.

Chapter 13: Next Step?

Summary:

"What is your most embarrassing moment on camera"

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Hinata is waving at the camera like it owes him money.
Lev is already too close to the lens.
Yaku is threatening Lev’s safety.
Bokuto is yelling.
Akaashi is regretting giving in and coming with Bokuto.
Oikawa is posing.
Iwaizumi is trying not to break something.

And Kenma is sitting on the couch, adjusting settings, looking like he wants peace for the first time in 48 hours.

Kuroo sits a reasonable distance away.

Like a normal person.
Like a friend.
Like someone who is not about to make the most embarrassing mistake of his life.

Hinata claps.
“Okay!! We’re answering chat questions!”

Akaashi tries to read a calm question.
“‘What’s everyone’s most embarrassing on camera moment?’”

Lev jumps up. “OOOOH I KNOW KUROO’S—”

Kuroo’s head snaps up.
“No you do not.”

Lev grins like he definitely does.
“Yes I—”

Kuroo moves to shut him up.

And THIS is where it all goes wrong.

He stands up too fast.
Kenma also stands up at the exact same moment to plug in the charger.

They collide.

Kenma loses balance.
Kuroo panics and reaches out.

And suddenly..

Kenma’s back hits the wall.
Kuroo’s hand slams next to his head.
Their bodies stop inches apart.

Time stops too.
They freeze.
The air freezes.
Everyone freezes.

Kenma’s eyes fly straight into Kuroo’s.
Kuroo’s eyes lock with his.
They stare at each other
A stupidly intense half second
that is absolutely going to ruin their lives.

Kuroo’s breath catches.
Kenma’s face goes pink.
Kuroo’s eyes flick down at Kenmas lips
for a split second,
then back up.

And that's ALL the fans need.

Because the camera catches it perfectly.

Oikawa is making dramatic gasps like he just saw a proposal
Hinata is jumping around shouting, “THEY WERE SO CLOSE—”
Kageyama is holding Hinatas hand, calming him down.
Iwaizumi is holding Oikawa back by the collar.
Yaku is scolding Lev for pushing Kuroo into doing.. that.

They sit in total awkward silence for about five seconds.

Then Kuroo whispers, “Sorry. I didn’t mean to—”

“It’s fine,” Kenma says quietly.
He doesn’t move away.

Oikawa starts narrating like a sports commentator.
“AND IN TODAY’S MATCH, KUROO TETSURO ACCIDENTALLY CAUSES A WALL PIN SCANDAL!”

Iwaizumi hits him with a pillow.

Bokuto reenacts the scene with Akaashi, who refuses to participate.
Lev attempts to recreate Kuroo’s pose and Yaku nearly ends his life.

Kenma just sinks lower in the couch.
Kuroo presses a hand over his face like he wants to disappear.

And everyone
EVERYONE
knows this clip is going viral.

Kenma mutters, “We should end the stream.”

Fans refuse.
Friends refuse.

Kuroo leans closer and mumbles, “I swear that was an accident.”

“I know,” Kenma says softly.

But his cheeks are still pink.

And Kuroo is still flustered.

And the chat is still screaming.

And this moment is never, ever, EVER going away.

Chapter 14: Snowy Night

Summary:

Snow storm. They are all stuck at Kenmas and Hinatas apartment for the night.

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

The snow is coming down so hard it looks fake.
Like someone put Kenma’s apartment inside a snow globe and shook it violently.

Kenma stares at the window.
“We’re stuck here.”

Lev cheers.
Yaku elbows him.
Bokuto cheers louder.
Oikawa is filming himself with dramatic winter lighting.
Iwaizumi is threatening to throw Oikawa INTO the snow for dramatic lighting.
Hinata is excited.
Kageyama is excited but trying to hide it.

Kuroo looks around like he knows he’s about to suffer.

Akaashi begins assigning sleeping arrangements like a strict camp counselor.

“Guest room,” Akaashi reads, “Bokuto and me.”

Bokuto cheers.
Akaashi sighs.

“Office pull out bed, Yaku and Lev.”

Lev screams, “WE’RE ROOMIES!!”
Yaku threatens to hurt him

“Couch, Oikawa and Iwaizumi.”

Oikawa dramatically gasps.
“With HIM?”
Iwaizumi cracks his knuckles.
“Keep talking.”

“Hinata’s room, Hinata and Kageyama.”

Hinata: “Yay!”
Kageyama hides his smile.

“And finally… Kenma’s room, Kenma and Kuroo.”

The room goes silent.
Kenma looks like he’s entering his villain arc.

“We’re not—” Kuroo starts.

“YES you are,” Bokuto says.

“No,” Kenma tries.

“Yes,” Yaku says.

“Very yes,” Lev nods.

Hinata nods because everyone else did.
Kageyama nods because Hinata nodded.

Hinata drags Kageyama into his room, all brightness and excitement.

“You can take whichever side!”

Kageyama sits on the edge like he’s afraid to wrinkle the sheets.
Hinata plops onto the bed, rolls across it, kicks his feet, and laughs.

“It’s so warm in here! Kageyama come here!”

Kageyama turns red instantly.
“I— I’m fine.”

But Hinata doesn’t hear him.
He’s already bouncing up and down, fixing pillows, humming like a kid.

Kageyama watches him with that soft, flustered look no one ever sees.

When Hinata finally settles down, he yawns, grabs a blanket, and sleepily rolls over toward Kageyama.

He knocks into Kageyama’s arm.

Then stays there.

Kageyama freezes. Holding him in his arms while Hinata sleeps.

Hinata mumbles, “Warm,” and falls asleep against him.

Kageyama blushes into the pillow until he nearly passes out.

Bokuto immediately faceplants onto the guest bed.

“AKAASHI LOOK WE’RE HAVING A SLEEPOVER AGAI-”

“Please go to sleep,” Akaashi says.

Bokuto burritos himself in blankets.
Akaashi turns off the light.

“AKAASHI? ARE YOU AWAKE?”

“No.”

“I THINK I’M COLD.”

“You have six blankets.”

Bokuto sighs dramatically.
“Goodnight then.”

Akaashi stares at the ceiling like he’s considering moving out of the country.

Lev jumps onto the pull-out bed.

It collapses halfway.

Yaku steps on his stomach.
“Stop breaking things.”

Lev laughs through the pain.
“Night, Yaku!”

“Don’t talk to me.”

Lev talks to him for the next thirty minutes anyway.
___________________

Oikawa tries to take the entire couch.

Iwaizumi kicks him off.
Hard.

“OW!! Iwa-chan!!”

“Stop calling me that.”

“You stole the only blanket!”

“TAKE HALF.”

“No!”

“Yes!”

Thirty minutes later they’re both asleep sharing the blanket like toddlers after a tantrum.

Kuroo changes into spare clothes in Kenma’s room, thinking he has privacy.

He takes off his shirt.

He’s looking for a hoodie.

And that’s when Kenma opens the door without knocking.

Because why would he knock?
it’s HIS room.

They freeze.
Both instantly.

Kenma’s eyes go huge, "GAH" he covers his eyes.

Kuroo drops the hoodie.

“I— YOU— DO— KNOCK???”

“It’s my room,” Kenma says, ears red.

Then they hear the sound.
A faint notification.
Kenma’s computer.
Still on.
Still broadcasting camera feed.
Still LIVE.

“Oh my god,” Kenma whispers.

Kuroo grips his hair.
“Oh my god.”

From the living room, Lev screams,
“WHY IS TWITTER SPAMMING ‘KUROO HAS ABS’ WHAT IS HAPPENING???”

Kenma sprints to the desk and ends the stream so fast he almost deletes his channel.
They stand in silence.

Kenma finally says, “We never speak of this.”

Kuroo nods aggressively.
“I don’t speak at all anymore.”

They lie in bed like two traumatized statues.

Kenma on the left.
Kuroo on the right.
A dramatic blanket line between them.

“Don’t make it weird,” Kenma mutters.

“You walked in on me,” Kuroo mutters back.

“IT’S MY ROOM,” Kenma snaps.

“OKAY fair—”

Silence.

Their feet brush by accident.

Both freeze.

Both pretend it didn’t happen.

They face opposite directions, pretending to sleep.

But both are very, very awake.

Hinata drools on Kageyama’s shoulder.
Kageyama quietly melts.

Bokuto snores like a dying trumpet.
Akaashi contemplates sliming him out

Yaku sleeps like a normal human.
Lev sleeps like a starfish on top of him.

Oikawa is clinging to Iwaizumi in his sleep.
Iwaizumi hasn’t noticed yet.
He will.
He will be furious.

Kuroo whispers into the dark,
“Night.”

Kenma hesitates.
“…Night.”

Their shoulders almost touch.

Almost.

The snowstorm rages outside.

Everyone sleeps.

Except maybe Kuroo.
Except maybe Kenma.

Both staring at the ceiling.

Both pretending they’re fine.

Everything is too warm.
Too close.
Too something.

And tomorrow is only going to make this worse.

In the best possible way.

Notes:

so my lovely friend has been giving me so good ideas for chapters. this one was kinda fun to write. ALSO the fnaf 2 movie was so good

Chapter 15: Goodnight

Summary:

Everyone gets settled in bed.. maybe cuddles?

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Kenma wakes up first.

Mostly because there’s a very heavy arm around his waist.

And a very warm chest pressed against his back.

And a very stupidly tall handsome breathing softly into his hair like they’re in a romance movie.

Kenma blinks at the wall for a solid 10 seconds before slowly, carefully trying to wiggle out of Kuroo’s hold. The arm tightens immediately.

“Don’t,” Kuroo mumbles, still half asleep. “ ’m comfy…”

Kenma freezes like a cat that accidentally touched water.

“…Kuroo,” he whispers, mortified.

“Mmph,” Kuroo says into his shoulder, clearly not awake enough to understand anything about consequences or fan reactions.

Kenma sighs. Loudly.

Across the hall, Lev is very much awake and whisper screaming, “Yaku-san you kick in your sleep ow! STOP. ow! PLEASE! ow—”

Yaku, fully asleep, kicks him again.

In the guest room, Bokuto is starfished across 80% of the mattress while Akaashi tries to read his phone with exactly 3 inches of personal space left. Bokuto suddenly rolls over and flings an arm over Akaashi’s stomach.

Akaashi does not react. He stares at the ceiling like this is simply his fate.

Down the hall in Hinata’s room, Hinata is already asleep by the time Kageyama gets into bed, sprawled everywhere, blanket half off, hair a mess.

Kageyama nudges him over.
Hinata immediately rolls right back into him.
Kageyama stiffens. “…Why.”

He tries to move him again, gently.
Hinata makes a tiny sleepy noise and curls closer, tucking his head against Kageyama’s shoulder like it’s instinct.
Kageyama gives up, slowly lying down too.

Hinata slides an arm around him without waking up, fingers lightly gripping Kageyama’s shirt.

Kageyama goes tomato red in the dark.
“…Idiot,” he whispers, but he doesn’t move him away.

Hinata buries his face in Kageyama’s chest with another soft sigh.

And despite himself, Kageyama falls asleep like that, Hinata warm, peaceful, and clinging to him like hes his.

Meanwhile, on the couch, Oikawa has claimed all the blankets and Iwaizumi is curled up freezing.

“Give me the blanket back,” Iwaizumi growls.

“Buy me a coffee tomorrow and we’ll talk,” Oikawa whispers, pretending he’s asleep.

“TOORU!”

And in Kenma’s office, the pull out bed situation is somehow even worse. Lev had apparently dragged the entire comforter onto the floor sometime during the night, leaving Yaku on the bare mattress.

“I’m going to strangle him,” Yaku mutters as he wakes up.

Back in Kenma’s room, Kenma is still stuck. Kuroo is now fully hugging him like it’s instinct, like this is normal, like they didn’t promise their friends they weren’t “weird” about sharing a bed.

Kenma’s face is burning.
“Kuroo,” he tries again.

This time Kuroo wakes up enough to blink blearily at the back of Kenma’s head. Then he realizes. His eyes widen.
“…oh.”

Kenma nods stiffly. “Yeah.”

They stare at each other from inches away, both of them too frozen and embarrassed to move.

Kuroo finally pulls his arm back, almost tripping out of the bed in panic. Kenma sits up, hair messy, cheeks pink.

Neither says anything.

Which is when Bokuto’s voice blasts down the hallway:
“KENMAAAAAA!!! BREAKFAST???!!!”

Kenma flinches so hard he nearly falls off the bed. Kuroo instinctively reaches out to steady him. Their hands brush.

Both immediately pull away like they got electrocuted.

From the living room, Oikawa’s dramatic voice adds, “Iwa-chan burned the eggs again!”

“I DID NOT. YOU WERE DISTRACTING ME!"

Kageyama storms out of Hinata’s room yelling, “HE KICKED ME IN THE FACE.”

Hinata yells back, “YOU SLEPT ON MY PILLOW”

Lev trips over the hallway rug.
Yaku yells at him.
Bokuto tries to hug everyone.
Akaashi is already cleaning up the mess.

And Kenma stands in the doorway of his bedroom, Kuroo beside him, both pretending absolutely nothing happened last night.

Of course, the group immediately starts staring at them.

Oikawa narrows his eyes. “Why do you two look weird?”

Hinata gasps. “Did something happen??”

Kageyama blinks suspiciously. “They’re standing kinda close.”

Yaku crosses his arms. “Yeah. Suspicious.”

Kenma and Kuroo say, at the same exact time,
“No.”
“Absolutely not.”
Everyone looks unconvinced.

And that’s how the morning begins.

Chapter 16: Bottoms Up

Summary:

The storm does NOT pass. They decide to do a drinking game.

Chapter Text

The storm is only getting worse.

Kenma watches rain streak down the window like it’s personally attacking him. Behind him, everyone else is arguing loudly about whose fault it is that they’re stranded.

“It’s definitely Kuroo’s fault,” Oikawa announces from the couch, wrapped in a blanket like an angry burrito.

Kuroo looks offended. “How?? I didn’t control the weather!”

“Yeah but you look like someone who would anger a weather god,” Lev says.

Yaku smacks him. “Don’t encourage him.”

Kenma checks the emergency transit alerts again. “Still down. No trains. No buses. No cabs. Everything’s cancelled.”

Hinata, who is sitting upside down on a beanbag, groans dramatically. “Yall never going home.”

Kageyama nudges him upright. “Stop saying that.”

“But yall arent!”

Bokuto brightens suddenly. “If we’re stuck here, then.. game night???”

Everyone groans and cheers at the same time.

Akaashi sighs deeply. “Here we go.”

Half an hour later, the living room looks like a blanket fort slash goblin lair.
Snacks everywhere. Pillows everywhere. Bottles clinking. Hinata hopping around like a caffeinated squirrel.

Kuroo and Oikawa are fighting over which game to play first.

“We should do truth or drink,” Oikawa insists.

“We should not,” Kenma mutters, already regretting not throwing them outside.

Lev shoves a bag of chips at Yaku. “Truth or drink!”

Yaku glares. “You’re not old enough to say that enthusiastically.”

Hinata pulls out a pack of cards with a victorious grin. “I found a deck!”

Kageyama eyes the deck suspiciously. “Where did you..”

“Kenma’s drawer!”

Kenma turns slowly. “That was the drawer with all the cables.”

Hinata freezes. “Oh. Then… someone put cards in there.”

Kuroo smirks. “That someone was definitely Hinata.”

Hinata gasps in betrayal. “How do you know?!”

“Your face.”

They settle in a circle on the floor, the room warm and humming with late night chaos.
Kenma tucks his legs under him and hides half his face behind his soda.

Kuroo stretches out like he owns the place.
Akaashi sits politely.
Bokuto sits like he’s waiting to get up and start dancing.
Iwaizumi sits like he wants to leave Kenmas and Hinatas apartment.
Oikawa sits like the main character.
Lev sits too close to Yaku, who shoves him away every 30 seconds.
Hinata sits cross, legged, swaying, bumping into Kageyama a few times.
Kageyama sits perfectly still, terrified.

The first few rounds are harmless.

“Drink if you’ve ever cried because of a video game.”

Bokuto, Kenma, Hinata, and Oikawa drink.
Akaashi pats Bokuto’s shoulder.
Kuroo pats Kenma’s shoulder.
Kenma swats his hand away.

“Drink if you’ve fallen off a bike in public.”

Lev drinks and tries to brag about it.
Yaku tells the story better.
Everyone laughs for a solid five minutes.

“Drink if you’ve started a kitchen fire.”

Hinata and Oikawa both drink.
Iwaizumi buries his face in his hands.
Kageyama mutters, “Of course you did.."

Everything is loud and comfortable until Oikawa gets a mischievous look and picks up the next card.

“Oh ho,” he says dramatically.

Kuroo raises a brow. “What?”

“Nothing… except this card is AMAZING.”

Kenma already hates it. “Put it back.”

“Nope.”
Oikawa holds it up like it’s the Holy Grail.
“Drink if you’ve kissed someone in this room.”

Silence slams into the room.

Kenma freezes.
Kageyama forgets how to breathe.
Hinata makes a noise that sounds like a squeaky toy.
Yaku’s eyebrows shoot up.
Lev sits forward like it’s a movie premiere.

The storm rattles the windows.
Then..

Bokuto slowly raises his drink and takes a sip.
Everyone stares.
Akaashi’s ears turn pink. He adjusts his glasses… then lifts his drink too.

Lev falls over.
Hinata gasps so hard he chokes.
Kageyama whacks his back to save him.

Bokuto looks at Akaashi with the softest grin.
Akaashi looks at the floor. “Please stop smiling at me like that.”

Before the shock settles, Oikawa sighs loudly.
“Well, since we’re being honest”
He drinks.
Iwaizumi stares at the wall for two full seconds… then drinks too.

The group EXPLODES.

Hinata: “WHAT. WHAT. EXCUSE ME—WHAT.”
Kageyama: “YOU—you two—??”
Lev: “THIS IS CINEMA.”
Yaku: “I can’t believe it… but also I can.”
Bokuto: “WAIT WAIT DOES THIS MEAN—WHOA.”
Akaashi: “Bokuto.. please breathe.”

Kuroo is cackling.
Kenma is staring into his soda like it will save him.

Chat on Kenma’s phone blows up.

________________

Kenma swears he didn’t notice the look.
He definitely noticed.

Kuroo leans over just slightly, voice low.
“You okay, Kenma?”

Kenma nearly drops his drink. “I’m fine.”

He is absolutely not fine.

Oikawa fans himself dramatically. “What a beautiful round. Next card!”

Kenma quietly prays for the storm to swallow him whole.

And the game goes on.

Chapter 17: Bed. (maybe 🤔)

Summary:

Everyone starts winding down and going to bed. Kenma has to slowly help Kuroo get to the room.

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

The storm outside sounds like it’s trying to peel the building off the ground.

Inside, everyone is… tipsy.

Except Kuroo.

Kuroo is absolutely drunk.

Like leaning on furniture that isn’t actually there.
Like talking louder than necessary for no reason.
Like smiling at walls.

The game finally ends.

Empty bottles everywhere.
Lev giggling on the floor.
Hinata sitting on Kageyama’s lap without realizing it.
Kageyama realizing it and forgetting how to breathe.

Bokuto laying face first on a pillow.
Akaashi rubbing his forehead like he’s lived too long.

Oikawa is draped dramatically across the couch, pointing at the ceiling.
Iwaizumi mutters, “Get up,” and physically drags him off.

And then there’s Kuroo.

Kuroo, who is staring at Kenma like Kenma is made of warm blankets and safety.

Kenma hates it.
Kenma also does not move away.
Kenma is in denial.

People start heading to bed.

Hinata says as he stumbled, “Goodniiiight everybodyyyy woah Kageyamaaaa catch me.”

Kageyama catches him very quickly, “STOP FALLING ON PURPOSE.”

“Akaashiiii carry me to the guest room.”

“Absolutely not Bokuto.”

"Yakuuu I don’t feel my toes.”

Yaku yells back to Lev, “GOOD.”

“Iwa-chan, I can’t WALK.”

Iwaizumi: “Because you’re DRAPING yourself over me shittykawa.”

Kenma thinks he’s safe because everyone is finally wobbling to their rooms.

And then
“Kennnnmaaaa,” Kuroo slurs, leaning against the wall in a very concerning angle.
“My legs stopped working.”

Kenma stares. “Fix them.”

Kuroo grins. “Can’t. They’re broken.”

He tries to take a step.
He fails miserably.

Kenma sighs and moves to grab him, and Kuroo instantly wraps his arm around Kenma like he’s been waiting all night for this.

Kenma: “No. Don’t cling.”

Kuroo: “But I like clinging.”

Kenma: “I hate this.”

They start toward Kenma’s room, slowly, painfully, with Kuroo stumbling every two seconds and putting all his weight on Kenma like a very affectionate oak tree.

Kuroo: “Kenmaaaa, you’re so warm.”

Kenma: “Stop TALKING.”

Kuroo: “You’re nice to lean on.”

Oikawa yells from down the hall:
“GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR BOYFRIEND!”

Kenma nearly trips.
Iwaizumi yells, “HE’S NOT HIS- KAWA! STOP YELLING AND GET IN BED.”

Kenma silently wishes for the power to smite.

They finally reach Kenma’s room.
Kuroo collapses face first onto the bed like a corpse.

Kenma: “You’re on top of the blanket.”

Kuroo mumbles into the mattress, “S’comfy.”

“You can’t sleep like that.”

Kuroo doesn’t move.
Kenma groans and reaches to pull the blanket out from under him very carefully, like removing Jenga blocks.
Kuroo flops onto his back in slow motion, blinking up at Kenma with soft, sleepy eyes.

“Thanks f’r takin’ care of me.”

Kenma’s ears go bright red.
“It’s not—just—don’t choke on your tongue or something.”

Kuroo laughs quietly, warm and low.
Kenma hates that it makes his stomach flip.

Kenma pulls the blanket over him.
“There. Sleep.”

Kuroo closes his eyes.

Kenma gets ready to stand up and leave, because he should leave.. because staying well that would be weird.
But just as he shifts away
Kuroo’s fingers curl around the fabric of Kenma’s sleeve.
Kenma freezes mid movement.

Kuroo whispers, barely awake, voice soft and slurred,
“Don’t go far.”

Kenma’s breath catches.
His heart is loud.

“Why?” he asks before thinking.

Kuroo doesn’t open his eyes.
He just mumbles:

“S’nice when you’re close.”

Kenma stops breathing for a solid five seconds.

He wants to pull away.
He wants to run.
He wants to stay exactly where he is.

He sits on the edge of the bed.

Totally practical.
Purely to make sure Kuroo doesn’t fall off the mattress and die.
Very reasonable.
Not emotional.
Not in love.
Nope.

Kuroo’s grip on his sleeve loosens as he drifts off.

Kenma stays.

Just for a moment.

(He stays longer than a moment.)

Chapter 18: Breakfast

Summary:

Everyone wakes up regrets drinking last night.. especially Kuroo.

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Kuroo wakes up with the confidence of someone who should feel fine but absolutely does not. He sits up in Kenma’s bed, blinks around, and immediately clutches his head.

“Why is the room tilting? Make it stop.”

Kenma, who’s sitting on the floor organizing game cables, doesn’t even look up.
“You’re hungover.”

“I’m dying,” Kuroo corrects.

“You’re hungover.”

“Let me be dramatic.”

Kenma rolls his eyes but tosses him a bottle of water without comment. Kuroo misses the catch and it bounces off his shoulder. Kenma just says, “Wow,” in the most unimpressed voice known to man.

Everyone else slowly wakes up in the rest of the apartment:

Bokuto and Akaashi emerge from the guest room, Bokuto clinging to a blanket like a cape, Akaashi walking behind him as if escorting royalty.

Kageyama and Hinata appear from Hinata’s room, Hinata fully awake and talking, Kageyama nodding silently like he’s buffering.

Oikawa and Iwaizumi crawl off the couch arguing about whose leg made their leg fall asleep.

Lev and Yaku stumble out of the office pull out bed, Yaku threatening to kick Lev if he doesn’t stop yawning loudly.

It’s chaos, but like… friendly chaos.

They all end up in the kitchen, slumped around the island like they’re attending a support group for “People Who Regret Last Night.”

Kuroo drags himself in last, hood up, moving like a grandpa. “Who let me drink that much?”

Kenma, already sipping his juice, answers, “You did.”

“You should’ve stopped me.”

“You were too heavy to drag away.”

Everyone laughs at that, and Kuroo hides his face in his hood like a wounded forest creature.

Oikawa pats him on the shoulder. “You were lively, at least.”
Iwa nods. “Yeah. Entertaining.”
Bokuto beams. “You told my socks they were your best friends!”

Kuroo lets out a long groan.

Kenma slides a plate of toast toward him. “Eat.”

The moment Kuroo reaches for it, their fingers brush.
Just a quick, nothing moment.

But Kuroo freezes for a half second.
And Kenma does too.

It’s not dramatic, just a tiny pause that maybe only they notice. But the air changes for that single moment before they both look away at the exact same time like pros at pretending things didn’t happen.

Hinata blinks. “Did… something just ha-?”

Akaashi elbows him. “Nope.”

Bokuto’s eyes sparkle like he knows EXACTLY what he saw.
To break the tension, Lev loudly points out that Kageyama’s hair looks “extra stupid today,” which instantly starts a mini argument that distracts everybody.

Kenma sighs then calmly continues eating. Kuroo sits next to him, still half asleep and leaning just slightly in Kenma’s direction, not on purpose, just naturally.

And weirdly…
Kenma doesn’t shift away.

No drama.
No secrecy.
Just a small shift. something neither of them comments on, but everyone else totally notices.

By the time they all settle onto the couch to watch something, Kuroo is fully awake again and quietly stealing part of Kenma’s blanket like it’s the most normal thing in the world.
And Kenma lets him.

Whatever this new thing is?
It isn’t strange.
It isn’t stressful.

It’s just… closer.
And nobody knows what it means yet.
But everyone can tell something changed.

Notes:

Hear me out.. next chapter they all go outside and play in the snow together 🥹🥹 maybe more kagehina 🤔🥺

Chapter 19: Snow War

Summary:

Everyone decides to go outside and have a snow fight.

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

The second they step outside, cold air bites at their cheeks and noses. The yard is covered in untouched, glittering snow, and Bokuto is the first to yell,
“SNOW WAR!”

Oikawa shrieks as a snowball hits him from who knows where, and chaos instantly explodes. Snow is flying. People are slipping. Hinata is screaming about “a quick retreat,” while Kageyama is yelling, “STOP RUNNING INTO MY LINE OF FIRE!”

Kenma had tried to stay by the door into the apartment complex. He really did.

But Kuroo grabs the back of his coat.
“Oh no you don’t. If I’m freezing, you’re freezing with me.”

“Kuroo—” is all he gets out before snow hits his face.
He wipes it off slowly. “…Okay. War.”

Kuroo beams like he’s been waiting his entire life to hear that.
They duck behind a half collapsed snow fort Kageyama built “with structural integrity, idiot!” and Kenma peeks over the edge to aim at Oikawa.

Another snowball flies in, hard.

“RETREAT!” Kuroo declares dramatically and grabs Kenma’s wrist, pulling him toward the trees for cover.

They skid to a stop behind a thick trunk. Kenma turns to look at Kuroo..
and suddenly realizes he’s pinned.
Not harshly. Not intentionally.
Just… Kuroo leaning too close, arms braced on either side of the tree, breath visible in soft white puffs. Kenma’s back hits the bark as Kuroo tries to catch his own breath after running.

For a second, Kuroo doesn’t even notice how close they are.
Then he looks down.
Right at Kenma.

And Kenma watches Kuroo’s eyes flick down, a long good 4 seconds, straight to his lips.

Kuroo’s pupils widen just a tiny bit.

Then he jolts like he touched a live wire.

“Uh—uh—t-tactical positioning,” he stammers, looking anywhere but Kenma’s eyes and mouth. “Taking—uh—taking cover. Yep. Cover. Tactical. Very… strategic of us.”

“Kuroo,” Kenma whispers tiredly.

“I KNOW,” Kuroo groans into the tree trunk, forehead bonking against it in defeat.

Before anything else can happen, two snowballs smash into them from opposite sides.

“AMBUSH!!” Bokuto screams.

Oikawa shouts, “I KNEW YOU TWO WERE HIDING BACK THERE!”

Kuroo sputters, “We were NOT—!!”

Kenma calmly grabs Kuroo’s sleeve, yanks him forward, and trips him straight into the snow.

Kuroo lands with a loud, confused “???”

Kenma stands over him with a small, quiet, smug smile. “Counterattack.”

Kuroo just lies there, blinking up at him in disbelief… then starts laughing, breathless and bright.

Kenma offers his hand to help him up.
Kuroo grabs it.

And for a tiny moment, just a second, they both look at each other.

Eyes soft.
Breaths visible.
Smiles impossible to hide.

Then Bokuto tackles Oikawa into a big snow pile, Kageyama yells something about “STOP USING ME AS A SHIELD,” and everyone is back to war.

Kuroo and Kenma only join in after that one quiet look fades, but did it ever really?

Not really.
Because they both still feel it.

Under the snow.
Under the noise.
Under everything.

The same look they gave each other.
It still lingers.

Chapter 20: Let's Talk?

Summary:

Everyone gets back inside from playing in the snow.

Notes:

so i wasn't going to post this till tomorrow but i had time to make a few edits so it could get posted earlier.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

The storm outside finally starts to quiet down, and the group trudges back inside, dripping snow all over the floors. Everyone heads toward their assigned rooms, Hinata and Kageyama to Hinata’s, Bokuto and Akaashi to the guest room, Oikawa and Iwaizumi to the couch, Yaku and Lev to the pull out bed in Kenma’s office, and Kuroo and Kenma… well, Kenma’s room.

Kenma drops his wet jacket on the chair and sits on the edge of his bed, staring at the mess of snowflakes and damp socks scattered across the floor. Kuroo leans against the wall, shrugging off his coat.

Kenma clears his throat.
“Uh… do you… want to talk about what happened… behind the tree?”

Kuroo freezes for half a second, then grins, walking toward him.
“You mean… the ‘strategic positioning’ incident?”

Kenma doesn’t answer, just tilts his head, watching as Kuroo steps closer. He backs up slowly, until his back is against the wall. Kuroo stops, just inches away.

For a moment, it’s silent.

“…Kenma,” Kuroo starts, voice low, “I—”

Kenma blinks. “You—”

Words stumble out, awkward and rushed, sentences cut short. Kuroo reaches out, brushing a snowflake off Kenma’s shoulder. Kenma swallows, heart beating faster, but doesn’t move.

And then, just as the distance between them disappears, and their faces are inches apart… the door swings open.

“Uh—hey, can I borrow a blanket?”

It’s Yaku. He freezes in the doorway for a second, glances between the two of them, sees nothing but two guys standing in the room, probably talking, and then shakes his head.
“Never mind,” he mutters, backing out.

The tension shatters like ice. Kenma exhales slowly, Kuroo lets out a tiny groan. Neither says anything.

Kenma drops onto the bed, pulling the blanket over himself. Kuroo follows, lying down beside him, careful to leave a respectful gap. They lie there quietly, the room warm and safe, snowstorm forgotten outside.

No words are exchanged. No explanations. Just the two of them, breathing, letting the night settle around them. And maybe… that one look behind the tree lingers in the back of both their minds.

Morning comes slow, pale light filtering through the curtains. Snow still coats the ground outside, sparkling faintly under the weak winter sun. Inside, the apartment is quiet… except for the faint groans and shuffles of people waking up.

Kenma stretches under his blanket, glancing at Kuroo, who's still asleep, sprawled across the bed with an arm draped carelessly over the edge. Kenma tilts his head, debating whether to wake him or just let him sleep. He decides on just leaving him.

Down the hall, in Hinata’s room, the subtle warmth of a shared blanket has Kageyama’s hands holding Hinata’s as he sleeps. Hinata murmurs something incoherent, snuggling closer. Kageyama shifts just a bit, tucking the blanket over both of them without waking Hinata, his own heart fluttering quietly.

Meanwhile, the chaos of breakfast preparations starts elsewhere. Lev is complaining about cold cereal, Bokuto is negotiating syrup rights with Akaashi, and Oikawa and Iwaizumi are bickering over how many pancakes are “too many.” Kuroo stirs, groaning, and Kenma finally decides it’s time to move.

“Morning,” Kenma mutters, sliding out of bed.

Kuroo blinks awake, stretches, and immediately leans a little closer, rubbing the sleep from his eyes. Kenma notices, but says nothing, simply reaching for his socks. Their movements are quiet, careful, almost synchronized without effort.

Kenma pauses near the window, looking out at the soft snow. Kuroo leans against the wall beside him. He doesn’t touch him, doesn’t speak, just watches quietly. The space between them hums with everything they didn’t say last night.

“Coffee?” Kenma finally asks, breaking the silence.

Kuroo’s lips twitch into a lazy smile.
“Yeah. I’ll take it black.”

Kenma snorts softly. Kuroo watches, eyes crinkling at the corners, and for a moment, the world narrows down to just them.

Meanwhile, down the hall, Hinata stirs and murmurs something again, and Kageyama instinctively tightens his hold on his hands before letting go, careful not to wake him. The gesture goes unnoticed by anyone but himself, but the warmth lingers.

Kenma pours the coffee, Kuroo leans back against the wall, and for now, that’s enough. No words about the tree. No awkward confessions. Just quiet, just them, just… normal.

And maybe, just maybe, both of them are thinking about the snow, the fall, and the way the other looks when they’re this close.

Outside, the snow keeps falling. Inside, a different kind of warmth slowly spreads.

Chapter 21: Get Out

Summary:

Kenma got absolutely fed up and kicked them all out.

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

The storm passed hours ago, and the apartment felt warm for the first time all day. Everyone migrated to the living room again, sprawled across couches, chairs, and blankets.

Everyone except Kageyama and Hinata, who slipped away with a quiet
“Uh—we’re gonna film a quick video in my room, okay?”
Hinata grinned, pulling Kageyama by the sleeve.

Kuroo and Kenma shared a look that said Yep, totally innocent. Sure.

The chaos continued.
Bokuto was loudly reenacting someone’s snowball “victory stance.”
Oikawa was fake crying over losing a Mario Kart round earlier.
Lev was trying to poke Yaku for fun.
Iwaizumi was trying to stop Oikawa from standing on Kenma’s coffee table.

Kenma was holding in his frustration… barely.

Kuroo stretched.
“I’m gonna go use the bathroom. Don’t start a fire while I’m gone.”
He disappeared down the hallway.

The SECOND the bathroom door clicked shut
Chaos multiplied.

“LEV STOP CHASING YAKU AROUND MY COUCH.”
“Bokuto, NO don’t lift the chair like that!”

Kenma’s eye twitched.

He glanced toward the hall.

He actually waited.
One minute.
Two minutes.
Maybe they’d calm down?

They did not.

With the calmest, coldest voice he had
“Get. Out.”
Everyone froze.

“Kenmaaaa, the trains—” Oikawa started.

“They’re running again. Leave.”

Bokuto blinked. “Right now?”

Kenma pointed at the door.

“Now.”

They had never grabbed their jackets so fast in their entire lives.

Within ninety seconds the apartment was dead silent, the only sound being the front door closing as the last pair left.

Kenma exhaled deeply.

Peace. Finally.

A moment later, Kuroo walked out of the bathroom drying his hands.
“Okay, what’d I miss?” he asked casually before stopping.
The living room was empty. Utterly empty.
“…Kenma?”

Kenma didn’t even look up from fixing the couch pillows.
“I kicked them out.”

Kuroo blinked. “You.. what? All of them?”

“They were loud. And annoying,” Kenma shrugged. “And they kept touching my stuff.”

Kuroo stared, then burst into a quiet laugh.
“That’s… fair.”

Kenma finally turned to look at him, soft smile forming.
“It’s quiet now.”

Kuroo took in the silence too.
“…Yeah. Kinda nice.”

Kenma sat on the floor in front of the TV, grabbing two controllers.

“Wanna help me record something for stream? My fans will freak out if you show up unannounced.”

Kuroo lit up.

“Oh ho mysterious special guest Kuroo Tetsuro? Should I sign something? Do I need makeup? Should we rehearse lines?”

Kenma threw a pillow at him.
“Just sit down.”

Kuroo dropped onto the floor beside him, knees bumping lightly.

Kenma hit “START STREAM.”
The soft Twitch chime sounded.

“Hey,” Kenma said into the mic, voice calm as always.
“So… everyone left. But Kuroo’s here, so we’re gonna play a game.”

Off camera, Kuroo whispered loudly
“You kicked them out.”

Kenma muttered, “Shut up.”

But he was smiling.
And Kuroo saw it.
And for once, the apartment was quiet enough that he really noticed how close they were sitting.

Kuroo chuckled under his breath.
Kenma nudged his shoulder, hiding a tiny laugh of his own.

The rest of the night passed with soft lighting, quiet laughter, and the comfortable kind of silence that only happened when it was just the two of them.

Chapter Text

The apartment was quiet now, the chaos of the earlier guests long gone. Kenma sat on the floor, fingers on the controller, focused and calm. Kuroo stretched beside him, grinning lazily, a faint smirk tugging at his lips.

“Mine’s the cooler blue controller,” Kuroo said, pointing toward the light blue controller.

Kenma raised an eyebrow, hand hovering over it. “This one’s fine,” he said flatly, already reaching for the other.

“Hey!” Kuroo lunged, trying to grab it first. “I called it!”

“Called it?” Kenma scoffed, tugging. Their hands collided over the controller. Fingers brushed. Neither let go.

Kuroo leaned a little closer, just slightly, as if instinctively. Kenma adjusted, moving the controller to the left, away from Kuroo’s side.

Kuroo didn’t miss a beat. He reached over, leaning over Kenma, hands bracing on either side of him. His body pressed just enough that Kenma’s back was against the floor. Kuroo’s eyes flicked down, and Kenma froze.

Kuroo’s gaze traveled slowly, deliberately, to Kenma’s lips. He lingered there for a few long, silent seconds, breath faintly visible in the soft glow of the TV.

Kenma, heart hammering, shifted slightly, eyes locking onto Kuroo’s instead. And then, catching the subtle tilt of Kuroo’s head, he slowly lowered his gaze to Kuroo’s lips.

Time seemed to stretch. The world outside the apartment, the TV glow, even the controllers, they all faded into nothing but the two of them.

And then, a sound broke the spell.

“…Uh—hey? What are y'all doing?” Kageyama asks, clearing his throat.

Kenma and Kuroo blinked, breaking apart just slightly, faces flushed. Kuroo muttered, “Uh… nothing…”

Kenma’s hands tightened around the controller. “It was… nothing.”

They were so focused on each other that they didn’t even notice anyone else in the room until Kageyama said something.

Both of them jumped, turning to see Kageyama standing there, arms crossed, wide eyed, Hinata trailing behind him with his phone pointed straight at them.

Kenma scrambled to sit up straighter, hands still gripping the controller. Kuroo backed off a bit, giving a sheepish, guilty smile.

Hinata, still live streaming, waved at the camera. “Uh… hey, everyone! Just checking in... nothing weird going on here, right?”

Comments immediately started flying:
____________________

@fanstheorys.com - wait… are they?? KISSINGG???
@kenmascat - WHAT. IS. HAPPENING.
@bokutoboost OMG THEY’RE SO CLOSE OH MY GOD
@lev.haiba - KENMA LOOKS LIKE HE’S ABOUT TO FAINT
____________________

Kuroo muttered under his breath, “We’re gonna die.”

Kenma groaned, burying his face behind the controller. “We already died.”

Hinata grinned, oblivious. “Anyway! Let’s finish the stream!”

Kageyama just stared at them, utterly speechless. “Seriously. Calm down.”

Kuroo leaned back, letting out a quiet laugh. “Yeah… calm. Right.”

Kenma sighed, still flush, and picked up his controller. The tension between them didn’t fully vanish, though.
Every glance, every brush of fingers reminded them both of the moment that almost… almost happened.

And neither of them moved the controllers closer again.

Chapter Text

Hinata and Kageyama packed up fast.

“We’re gonna finish editing at Kageyamas place!” Hinata chirped, scooping up his ring light.

Kageyama nodded. “Yeah. We won’t bother you guys anymore.”

Kenma’s eye twitched.
“Good.”

Kuroo coughed into his fist, a little too casual. “…Yeah, uh, safe travels.”

“BYE!!” Hinata yelled, already halfway out the door.

The door clicked shut.
Silence followed.

Real silence.

The kind that made the earlier almost kiss play in both of their heads loud as sirens.

Kenma stood there for a moment, staring at the door.

Then he exhaled.
“…We should go to my room. I need to get something for… the game. For the next stream.”

Kuroo hummed. “Oh? Yeah. Sure. Your room. Lead the way.”

Kenma shot him a look that said don’t say it like that.
Kuroo smirked like he absolutely meant to.

They walked down the hall… slowly.
Too slowly.

Like both of them knew exactly what they were doing.

Kenma pushed open his bedroom door and stepped inside.
Kuroo followed, closing the door behind him
Click.
Locked.

Kenma froze.
“Did you just—”

“Habit,” Kuroo lied instantly.

It was NOT a habit.

Kenma turned to him, but before he could say anything else

Kuroo stepped forward.

One step.
Another.
Another.

Until Kenma’s back hit the wall beside the door.

His breath caught, soft and startled.

Kuroo braced one hand beside Kenma’s head, leaning in just enough for the air between them to heat and thicken.

“…What are you doing?” Kenma whispered.

Kuroo’s eyes flicked down, slow, deliberate. to Kenma’s lips.

“Getting what we came here for.”

“That’s not—” Kenma swallowed. “That’s not what we came here for.”

Kuroo’s voice dropped lower.
“Sure about that?”

Kenma couldn’t answer.

He stared into Kuroo’s eyes.
Then at his lips.
Then back up again.

Kuroo leaned closer, the space between them shrinking to nothing.
Close enough that Kenma could feel the warmth of Kuroo’s breath on his skin.

They hovered there.
Seconds.
Heartbeats.

Kuroo’s hand, the one braced by Kenma’s head, curled slightly, knuckles brushing the wall next to Kenma’s cheek.

He spoke barely above a whisper.
“Tell me to stop.”

Kenma didn’t.
Instead, his fingers shot up, fisting into Kuroo’s hoodie, grabbing near the collar as if something inside him snapped loose.

Kuroo inhaled sharply, eyes widening just a fraction

Then Kenma yanked him down.
Hard.

Their lips crashed together.
Warm, desperate, clumsy, perfect.

Kuroo made a sound—half surprise, half relief—and kissed him back instantly, hands coming up to cup Kenma’s jaw, thumb brushing his cheek.

Kenma’s other hand moved to Kuroo’s chest, gripping his hoodie like he needed something to hold onto or he’d float away.

The kiss deepened.
Slow at first.
Then not slow at all.

Kenma tilted his head, Kuroo pressed closer, their bodies flush as the wall held Kenma upright and Kuroo held everything else.

They broke apart for just a second

Breathing hard.
Foreheads touching.
Kuroo’s lips brushing Kenma’s as he whispered:

“…We definitely didn’t come in here for a controller.”

Kenma let out a tiny, breathy laugh.

“Shut up.”

Kuroo smiled against his mouth.
“Make me.”

Kenma did.
He grabbed the hoodie again.
Pulled him right back down.
Kissed him like he wasn’t going to let him go again.

And Kuroo, for once,
didn’t say anything smart.

He just kissed him.

Longer this time.
Softer.
Slower.

Like they had all the time in the world.

When they finally pulled away, both of them dazed and flushed, Kuroo rested his head against the wall beside Kenma’s, still close enough that their noses brushed.

“Ken?” Kuroo whispered.

“…Yeah?”

“We’re never telling Bokuto about this.”

Kenma snorted softly. “He already knows something’s up.”

“Not this,” Kuroo emphasized.

Kenma met his eyes again.

And for the first time tonight
Kenma didn’t look away.

“…Okay,” he breathed.
“It’s ours.”

Kuroo smiled.

“Yeah. Ours.”

They didn’t leave the room for a long, long time.

Chapter Text

Kenma finally put his phone face-down on the blanket.

Kuroo did the same.

The apartment was quiet, dark except for the city lights leaking through the blinds. Both of them sat shoulder to shoulder at the foot of Kenma’s bed, exhausted, emotionally fried, and absolutely done with the entire world.

Kuroo let out a long breath.

“…We should figure out a plan before the group chat destroys us.”

Kenma nodded. “Yeah. Before they make it worse.”

They sat there in silence.

Then Kuroo looked at him.

Kenma looked back.

Neither of them looked away.

The glow from the streetlights caught on Kuroo’s eyes, softening the sharpness, making his expression… warm. Way too warm for Kenma’s heart to handle.

And Kuroo leaned in.

Slowly.

Kenma’s breath caught
But this time it wasn’t chaotic or rushed or desperate like last night.
This time it was calm, deliberate, certain.

Kuroo’s forehead brushed his.

“Can I…” he whispered.

Kenma didn’t bother with words.

He kissed him first.

Kuroo inhaled sharply, hands immediately cupping Kenma’s cheeks as he kissed him back. Slow, soft, like they finally had a moment to breathe.

Kenma’s fingers curled into Kuroo’s hoodie, pulling him closer, their lips parting in a quiet, aching rhythm.

Kuroo moved his hand to the back of Kenma’s neck, tilting his head slightly, deepening the kiss just enough to make Kenma exhale a tiny, unintentional sound against his mouth.

Kuroo froze.

Kenma’s face went red instantly.

“…Ignore that,” he muttered.

Kuroo smiled against his lips.

They kissed again longer this time, Kenma leaning into him until Kuroo’s back hit the headboard. Kenma shifted, climbing into his lap without thinking, holding onto his hoodie like he was afraid Kuroo might disappear if he let go.

Kuroo’s hands settled around his waist, steady but gentle, grounding them both.

It was perfect.

It was safe.

It was theirs

Until someone pounded on the front door.

Both of them froze.

Kuroo whispered, “…No.”

Kenma whispered back, “No.”

Then
BOOM BOOM BOOM
“OPEN UP!!”

Kenma’s eye twitched.
“…That’s Bokuto.”

Kuroo paled. “He can smell secrets. We’re screwed.”

Kenma scrambled off of him, both of them breathing way too fast, hair messed up, clothes twisted, faces pink.

The pounding continued.

“KENMAAAA I KNOW YOU’RE IN THERE—!”

“DON’T YELL IN HIS HALLWAY,” another voice snapped.
Akaashis voice

Then
"IF THEY DON'T ANSWER THEY’RE DEFINITELY KISSING."
Levs voice

“Lev, stop narrating,” Yaku barked.

Kenma dragged both hands down his face.
“Oh my god they all came.”

Kuroo peeked toward the door like it was a horror movie.
“Why are they HERE? It’s midnight.”

Kenma’s phone lit up

Hinata:
"uhhhh surprise visit!!!
we’re ALL downstairs!!!
i tried to stop them.."

Kageyama:
"I!!!!! tried to stop them... i failed.
hinata invited them all over"

Kuroo hissed through his teeth.
“They cannot see us right now. We look— we look exactly like we were doing something.”

Kenma checked a mirror.
He froze.
His hair was very obviously “kissed.”

Kuroo’s wasn’t any better.

“THIS IS YOUR FAULT,” Kenma whispered aggressively.

“My fault?! You climbed into my—”

“SHHH!!!”

The pounding got louder.

“KENMAAAA OPENNN ITTTT!!” Bokuto screeched.

Kenma slapped a hand over his own face.
“They’re going to break the door.”

Kuroo straightened his hoodie, tried to flatten his hair (failed), and grabbed Kenma’s hand briefly.

“Okay. We act normal. Neutral. Boring. No eye contact longer than 0.5 seconds.”

Kenma nodded.
“…Right.”

They stepped into the hallway.

Kenma unlocked the door.

He cracked it open

And Bokuto face planted inside.

“KENMAAAAAAAA—!”

Kuroo caught him by the back of his shirt.
“Bro. Bro. Personal space.”

The entire group shuffled inside like a chaotic parade.

Hinata.
Kageyama.
Bokuto.
Akaashi.
Lev.
Yaku.
Oikawa.
Iwaizumi.

All of them.

Uninvited.

At midnight.

Kenma whispered to himself
“I hate everyone.”

Oikawa raised an eyebrow.
“Why do you two look like that?”

Kenma tensed.
“Like what.”

Kuroo stepped in front of him a little too fast.
“Nothing. We look like nothing.”

Iwaizumi narrowed his eyes.

“Why are you standing so close?”

Kenma and Kuroo jumped apart like magnets reversed.

Hinata and Kageyama shared a look.

A very suspicious look.

Lev gasped dramatically.
“ARE YOU—”

Yaku grabbed him by the ear before he could finish.

“No.”

The group settled into the apartment, talking loudly, snacking, making themselves way too comfortable.

Meanwhile, Kenma and Kuroo sat on opposite ends of the couch, stiff as two terrified cats.

But then
From the hallway, Bokuto popped his head around the corner with narrowed eyes.

“Hey, Kuroo?”

Kuroo flinched. “Yeah?”

Bokuto pointed between them slowly.

Then smirked.

“…Why is your hoodie inside out?”

Kuroo looked down.
His hoodie.
Was absolutely.
Inside. Out.

Kenma silently mouthed
"We’re dead."

Bokuto’s grin widened.
“Ohhhhhh I KNEW IT”

Akaashi slapped a hand over Bokuto’s mouth instantly.
“No.”

Bokuto muffled
“Mmph! MRRPH!!”

Everyone stared.

Kenma and Kuroo stared back, frozen.

Suspicion thickened in the air.

But no one said anything.

No one had proof.

Yet.

Instead, the group pretended everything was normal.

…But EVERY SINGLE PERSON kept sneaking glances at them.

Whispering.

Observing.

And Kuroo leaned over to Kenma while no one was looking.
“…The cover story is failing.”

Kenma whispered back
“We never even HAD a cover story.”

They sat there under the weight of eight suspicious friends…

Praying no one noticed their hands brushing on the couch cushions.
No one realized.
Hinata’s stream was still on.

Not Hinata, who had tossed his phone onto the couch when everyone unexpectedly barged into the apartment.
Not Kageyama, who was too busy arguing with Oikawa about whos the better setter.
Not Bokuto, who was wandering around loudly, looking for snacks.
Not even Kenma, who was too overwhelmed to notice anything beyond Kuroo’s hand brushing his lower back when no one was looking.

And definitely not Kuroo, who thought the chaos would distract everyone long enough for him to “escape.”

But the live chat saw everything.

Everything.

The hoodie inside out.
Kenma’s hair messy.
Kuroo’s swollen ish lips.
The way they avoided each other’s eyes like they were hiding a bomb.

Chat was already vibrating with speculation

The camera, still propped up on the couch, was angled at the hallway. A perfect accidental setup.

But inside the apartment, everyone was oblivious
Hinata finally noticed something.

He paused mid sentence, eyes narrowing.

“…did you close Kenma’s door when we came in?” he asked Kageyama quietly.

Kageyama frowned. “No.”

They both slowly turned.
Kenma’s door was closed.

Kuroo was not in the living room.
Kenma was not in the living room.

And they both had vanished at the same time.

Hinata whispered, “They’re SO doing something.”

Kageyama whispered back, “Obviously.”

And that tiny whisper war spiraled.

Bokuto overheard.
Bokuto gasped.
Akaashi sighed because Bokuto gasped.
Lev leaned in.
Oikawa leaned in more dramatically.
Iwaizumi dragged him back but was also leaning in.

And before anyone could stop him
Bokuto marched toward Kenma’s room.

“AHEM—HELLO??”
He knocked.
There was no answer.
He knocked again.
Still nothing.

He turned the knob.
It opened.
Inside Kenma’s room.

Kuroo was pinned against the wall, shirt rumpled, breath uneven
Kenma was practically pressed against him, one hand gripping Kuroo’s hoodie, the other cupping the back of his neck as he kissed him like he’d been holding himself back for years.

Their mouths moved desperately, messily, breathlessly.
Kenma pulled him down again by the hoodie, lips crashing into Kuroo’s.
Kuroo’s hands were on Kenma’s waist, pulling him closer, thumbs brushing just under his shirt hem but never lifting it. just enough to feel him, not enough to cross the line.

Kenma kissed him harder.

Kuroo let out a quiet, muffled sound against his mouth, equal parts surprise and absolutely melting.

Kenma bit gently at his lower lip.
Kuroo nearly dropped to the floor.

They didn’t hear the door creak open.
They didn’t hear Bokuto’s shocked inhale.
They didn’t hear the others crowding behind him.
They didn’t hear anything

Until Bokuto yelled
“OH MY GODDD THEY’RE MAKING OUT!!!”

Kuroo froze.
Kenma froze.

Their mouths were still touching when they turned their heads, wide eyed, to see HALF THEIR FRIENDS PACKED IN THE DOORWAY.

Akaashi’s soul visibly left his body.
Oikawa cheered a little too loudly.
Yaku screamed.
Lev squealed.
Iwaizumi turned around like a disappointed dad.
Bokuto fist bumped the air.

Kenma, horrified, scrambled off Kuroo like he’d just touched a hot stove.

Kuroo tried to fix his hair.
He failed.
Badly.

They were both red.

Very red.

Everyone started talking at once
“YOU TWO WERE-”
“HOW LONG-”
“DID YOU ALWAYS-”
“KISS AGAIN SO I CAN RECORD IT BETTER-”
“KNOCK NEXT TIME YO-”

It was chaos.
Absolute chaos.

But then the worst possible sound played from the living room.

Hinata’s stream notification.

The one that meant
THE STREAM IS STILL LIVE.

Every head turned in slow motion.

Hinata sprinted for his phone.

Kageyama yelled, “TURN IT OFF TURN IT OFF TURN IT OFF—”

He grabbed it.

Looked at the screen.

And his soul disintegrated.

The live chat was going insane, everyone suggests kenma was definitely ON TOP.
Hinata screamed.
Kageyama screamed louder.
Oikawa posed for the camera.
Iwaizumi threw a pillow at Oikawa.

Bokuto shouted, “THE FANS KNOWW!!!”

And Kenma…
Kenma wanted to physically delete himself from the universe.

Kuroo covered his face with his hands.

Too late.
Too, too late.
The internet had SEEN enough.

No actual kiss on camera but the noises, the door opening, the friends’ reactions, the state of the two of them…
It was enough evidence to break the fandom in half.

Hinata ended the stream.

Silence.

Everyone slowly turned toward Kenma and Kuroo.

Kuroo whispered
“…We’re so dead.”

Kenma whispered back
“…I think we already died.”

The apartment was loud, chaotic, and filled with overlapping voices.

Kuroo and Kenma sat stiffly on the couch, trying (and failing) to act like they weren’t dying inside as everyone discussed the incident that Hinata’s stream accidentally broadcast earlier.

And Bokuto was about to make everything ten times worse.

He stood on the couch cushions like he was preparing to deliver breaking news to the nation.

“GUYS, LISTEN! EVERYBODY LISTEN!! I SAW—”

Akaashi whipped his head around.

No.
No absolutely not.
Not today.

Before Bokuto could take another breath, Akaashi launched.

“Aka—?!”
“Bokuto. STOP.”

They collided onto the couch with a thud.

Bokuto hit the cushions flat on his back, eyes wide.
Akaashi landed on top of him, one hand covering Bokuto’s mouth, hair falling forward and creating a curtain around their faces.

The room went silent.

But what everyone noticed next?

Bokuto’s hands.
Both of them.
Slow, instinctive, sliding around Akaashi’s waist.

Gripping.
Holding.
Not pushing away at all.

Akaashi froze for half a second, because Bokuto never grabbed him like that before, but regained his composure fast.

He leaned closer, glaring down at Bokuto inches from his face.

“Do. Not. Say. Anything.”
His voice was low, deadly calm.

Bokuto stared up at him, blinking big eyes, muffled words trapped behind Akaashi’s hand.

The others?
Absolutely dumbstruck.

Lev whispered, “WHY IS THIS SO INTENSE—”

Yaku elbowed him in the ribs.
“Shut UP, Lev.”

Oikawa held up his phone but Iwa slapped it down without looking.

Kuroo and Kenma watched from across the room, both partially hiding behind pillows.

Kenma muttered, “Why is this more dramatic than what WE did?”

Kuroo whispered back, “…They’re worse than us.”

Meanwhile, back on the couch, Akaashi’s hand slowly lifted from Bokuto’s mouth.

“Better?” Akaashi asked quietly.

Bokuto nodded quickly.

Akaashi didn’t move away.

Too close.

Much too close.

Their noses almost brushed.
Akaashi’s hair tickled Bokuto’s forehead.
Bokuto’s hands stayed firm on Akaashi’s waist, holding him in place like he didn’t even realize he was doing it.

The tension was so strong it practically hummed.

Hinata whisper yelled, “Are they… are they gonna KISS??”

Kageyama hissed back, “Shut up, you’ll scare them.”

The room leaned in collectively.

But at the last second
Akaashi shifted, shielding Bokuto’s face from the group for half a heartbeat.

A tiny, barely there kiss.

So quick it could’ve been imagined.
A soft brush, hidden from everyone else by the angle and Akaashi’s hair.

Then Akaashi pulled away that same second, cheeks faintly flushed.

Bokuto’s eyes blew wide like he felt it but wasn’t sure it was real.

By the time the others saw them again, Akaashi had already sat up a little, clearing his throat.

“We’re fine,” he announced calmly.

Bokuto sat up too. Very stiff. Very red. Very quiet.

Everyone stared.

Suspicious.
Confused.
Shaken.

But no one saw the kiss.

Only them.

Akaashi and Bokuto avoided everyone’s eyes, including each others, as the chaos started up again.

But their hands brushed once more as they stood.

And neither of them pulled away.

When the noise in the living room grew too chaotic again, Akaashi quietly slipped away into the hallway.

A moment later, Bokuto followed.

The second they were alone, Akaashi turned sharply.
“Bokuto wait.”

Bokuto froze mid step, hands hovering awkwardly at his sides.

“Akaashi…”
His voice was soft, unsure in a way it almost never was.
“…Did we just…?”

Akaashi looked away, the tips of his ears turning pink.
“That was an accident,” he said, too quickly.

“An accident?” Bokuto repeated, stepping closer.
“So then why did it feel like—”

“Don’t,” Akaashi cut in, voice tight.
“We can’t talk about it here. Everyone is already overwhelmed
and—”

Bokuto took another quiet step, so close Akaashi had to tilt his head up to see him.

“Akaashi,” Bokuto said softly, “I put my hands on your waist.”

Akaashi swallowed hard.

“I know,” he whispered.

“And you didn’t move them,” Bokuto added, voice dropping lower.

Akaashi said nothing.

Bokuto hesitated, eyes searching Akaashi’s face.

“And you… you kissed me. Right? I’m not imagining it?”

Akaashi’s breath caught.

“…It was small,” Akaashi muttered.

“But it was real,” Bokuto whispered.

Akaashi didn’t deny it.
He couldn’t.

For a long moment, they just stood there, warm hallway light between them, silence humming with everything unspoken.

Akaashi finally exhaled.

“We can talk about it… later,” he said softly.
“Somewhere without everyone listening.”

Bokuto nodded slowly.
His voice quiet, hopeful
“…Okay. Later.”

Akaashi brushed past him to return to the living room but Bokuto gently caught his wrist before he stepped away.

“Thank you,” he whispered.
“For… not pushing me off.”

Akaashi’s heart clenched.
His voice was barely a breath.
“…I didn’t want to.”

Bokuto froze completely.

Akaashi slipped his hand from Bokuto’s grip gently, walking back into the chaos.

Bokuto stood there for a long moment, hand still tingling where he’d held him.

Both of them pretending nothing happened.
Both of them knowing everything changed.

No one spoke of what happened on the couch.

Not the tackle.
Not Akaashi on top of Bokuto.
Not the suspicious tension.
Not the way Bokuto’s hands had gripped Akaashi’s waist.
Not the way Akaashi’s hair had shielded something none of them fully saw.

Everyone pretended it never happened.

Kuroo and Kenma avoided eye contact.
Hinata pretended to scroll on his phone.
Kageyama just looked deeply uncomfortable for reasons unknown.

And Bokuto and Akaashi?

They stood shoulder to shoulder, stiff, silent, and VERY red.

After an awkward hour of small talk that sounded like a hostage negotiation, Bokuto cleared his throat.

“Uh… Akaashi and I are going home.”

Akaashi nodded.
“Yes. We have—things to do. Normal things.”

“Yep,” Bokuto said. “Totally normal. Absolutely nothing weird.”

The room went dead silent.

Kenma blinked.
Yaku stared.
Lev opened his mouth, but Yaku smacked him.

“Do not,” Yaku warned.

And so… nobody asked.
Not one word.

The door clicked open, and Bokuto and Akaashi stepped inside the place they shared with Oikawa and Iwaizumi.

Lights were low.
The apartment was quiet.

Akaashi slipped off his shoes.
Bokuto hovered behind him, fidgeting.

Neither spoke.

Because every time their eyes met, all they could think about was
His hands on my waist.
His breath on my lips.
That tiny hidden kiss.

Akaashi cleared his throat.

“We should… probably get ready for bed.”

Bokuto nodded slowly.
“Yeah. Um. Same room?”

Akaashi’s cheeks warmed.
“…We always do.”

So they walked to Akaashi’s room.
Not too close.
Not too far.

But once the door closed behind them—
Everything changed.

The second the door clicked shut, Bokuto exhaled like he’d been holding his breath all night.

Akaashi turned to say something—

But Bokuto stepped forward
and Akaashi backed up
one step
another
until he hit the wall beside his desk.

They froze.

Almost exactly like earlier.

Bokuto’s hands found Akaashi’s waist.
Akaashi’s fingers curled into Bokuto’s hoodie.

Their lips met.
Soft at first.
Gentle.
Then Bokuto pressed closer, kissing him deeper, hands gripping him like he had been waiting forever to do it again.

Akaashi’s fingers held tight in Bokuto’s hoodie as the kiss grew hotter, hungrier, fuller.

They stumbled toward the bed without breaking apart, Bokuto guiding him carefully, gently lowering him back onto the blankets.

Akaashi pulled him down with him, legs brushing, breaths heavy, fingers in Bokuto’s hair.

They kissed again.
And again.
And again.
Nothing inappropriate.

Just desperate, messy, breathless making out.

And it felt like everything.

The door swung open.

Akaashi froze.
Bokuto froze.

The light from the hallway spilled in.

Oikawa stood in the doorway.
Iwaizumi behind him.

Oikawa’s eyes were wide.
Iwa’s jaw dropped.

Akaashi’s face went pale.
Bokuto went rigid.

They had been caught.

But Oikawa cleared his throat.
“WE SAW NOTHING,” he said firmly.

Iwaizumi nodded.
“NOTHING. NO ONE WILL KNOW.”

Akaashi sat up slightly.
“You’re… not going to say anything?”

Oikawa looked traumatised.
“I once got pinned in the kitchen by my boyfriend in the middle of an argument and started making out with him because we’re unhealthy.”

Iwa sighed.
“That was not our proudest moment.”

Akaashi blinked.
“This was when…?”

“Last month,” Oikawa said.
“You walked in.”

“And YOU didn’t tell anyone,” Iwa added.

Bokuto and Akaashi exchanged a glance.

Oikawa wiggled his eyebrows.
“Don’t worry. Your little… owl romance is safe with us.”

Iwa smacked him.
“STOP CALLING IT THAT.”

Akaashi and Bokuto smiled faintly, their tension easing.
“…We can continue,” Akaashi whispered finally.
Bokuto grinned.
“Absolutely.”

FLASHBACK

It had been a week before the national tournament.

Oikawa had set Iwaizumi for what should have been match point. But instead of an easy spike, Iwaizumi got blocked.
They lost.

Frustration boiled over.

In their kitchen
Iwaizumi pressed Oikawa against the counter.
“You had one job!” Oikawa hissed, hands gripping Iwaizumi’s shoulders.
“I know! I KNOW!” Iwaizumi groaned, hands sliding against Oikawa’s chest. Then going onto each side of Oikawa, pinning him there while stepping closer. So close they were chest to chest.
Their breaths were ragged, voices low, intense.

Then desire and tension collided.

Oikawa’s lips found Iwaizumi’s neck.
Iwa leaned into him, hands tangling in Oikawa’s hair.
They pressed together, grinding, moaning quietly but heatedly, the small kitchen filled with their frustrated sighs and urgent gasps.

It was messy.
It was tense.
It was passionate.

Then the door opened.

Akaashi and Bokuto froze.
Wide eyed.
Stunned.

They had walked in right at the peak of it.

And what did they do?

Nothing.

Because Oikawa and Iwaizumi had already established
"Whatever happens in their apartment stays between them"

And that unspoken agreement carried over to Bokuto and Akaashi.
Privacy. Respect. Secrets.

Some things… no matter how intense, messy, or chaotic, are meant to stay just between two people.
