Compared to Tobio, who was frustrated and confused, Shoyo clenched his hands together tightly–nervously–feeling his entire body fall weak as he stared at the screen in front of him. It was as if Ushijima could sense Shoyo’s fear, and the fear of every other victor from the 69th Games.
A glint flashes in Ushijima’s eyes–something almost unrecognisable..
It’s a darkness more menacing than anything Shoyo has ever faced before.
"On this, the third Quarter Quell Games," the president declared. “I am announcing that tributes are to be reaped from the existing pool of Victors in each district. Victors shall present themselves on Reaping Day, regardless of age, state of health, or situation, and this time, the number of boys and girls reaped need not be equal, proving that the Capitol has the power to redefine the rules as it sees fit."

He felt a light tap of his usual driving partner on his back and stood up. His stomach was heavy, his heartbeat skyrocketing. They both rushed to the car, and he was thankful the other sat behind the wheel. It gave him a chance to go on his phone and call Sugawara. The phone rang and rang, then sent him to voicemail. He texted, asking his best friend to call him, then tried ringing again. Voicemail.

After a car accident, Sugawara is left severely injured and partially blind. Sawamura steps in to take care of him while he slowly recovers.

Osamu huffs out a laugh that’s more breath than humor, like the weight of the question sinks into his chest before he can stop it. It’s the sound of someone who’s been trying not to want something for a long, long time, but who has been defeated anyway.
He doesn’t answer right away. Just stares out into the dark alley, jaw clenched like he’s chewing on glass.
Finally, when Osamu speaks, his voice is rough with resignation.
“Yeah.” He doesn’t look at Suna when he answers. “Yeah, Rin. I would.” A beat. “And I think that’s exactly our problem.”
