Sometimes, Kaeya would wake up before the sun had rose. On these days, he'd walk the streets of Mondstadt and remember (if not relive) that fateful night his (former) brother had left him. One day, during his early morning walk, a voice brought him out of his thoughts.
"Hey! You scared all my pigeons away!"
"They’ll be back,” Kaeya replied.
“But what if they don’t come back,” the boy cried, “just like my father!”

After the Weinlesefest Diluc, Jean and Kaeya seek comfort in their old childhood fort. The reunion may be accidental, but it is a welcome comfort to soothe their aching hearts after the voices the brothers heard and the silence that rings in Jean's ears.
It was not only they who missed their childhood secret hiding spot. The stones and the soil itself missed the rumbling laughter of its three masters. But now they are back.

Summary
Diluc has been gone from Mondstadt for three years now, run off to Snezhnaya searching for answers. Of course, it's Diluc, so he also ends up causing several problems while he's there that Kaeya has to come and fix. Typical.
Alternatively: Kaeya discovers that there is a warrant out for Diluc's arrest in Snezhnaya and promptly leaves Mondstadt to bring Diluc home. Oh, and Childe is there.
