Ismark Kolyanovich once dreamed of sunny days alongside his best friend, the preacher's boy, Doru. But since Doru was turned into a vampire spawn, he’s been confined to the church’s undercroft, where he's sentenced to a life in the dark. Seeking a cure, Ismark journeys to Castle Ravenloft to meet its new owner, only to discover an eccentric cleric with big plans to rebuild Barovia and make it a home for all things living and undead.
Doru pushes to very edge of his chains. He’s inches away from Ismark now, and Ismark can smell every day of imprisonment on him: his soiled clothes, his oily, matted hair, the mud crusted on his skin, the blood of vermin on his breath.
“Do it,” Doru begs. “Let me rest. For all the love you’ve ever held for me.”
Ismark holds the stake out, aiming its jagged toothy end at the center of Doru’s chest, right above where his cold, dead heart lies asleep behind a protruding rib cage.

"Within Shadowfell there are these places. Attracted to the negative energy, I believe, they attach themselves to the realm. Surrounded by thick mists, they are near impenetrable through conventional means. They are called Domains of Dread. No one knows what takes place within them, though we are sure it is nothing pleasant. It is said that there are dark evils trapped within them." She took a deep breath. "There has only been one Domain anyone has ever got out of. It is the oldest Domain, and it is where all the stories have come from. One of its defining features that always gets repeated is the lack of sunlight. Can you feel it?" She asked the others. "How the light doesn't warm your skin? How the colour is just a shade or two off? This place is horrifying. No Deities can reach here, I can barely feel my Queen." Her eyes begin to water, and she resolutely wipes them dry before tears can form. "I used to remember the name of this place, though it is eluding me right now. That doesn't matter though, what matters is that we need to find a way out of here."

Still bitter from why she is here, she is forced to protect a group of bright eyed (level 1) adventurers along with finally confronting her past; A group determined to march their way to Strahd, despite being warned they will be killed with the snap of a finger because they are certain that Alice is merely being a debbie downer.
Will she manage to somehow find hope in the end, despite marching herself to her own death regardless of her choices (as far as she can tell)?

I once saw a post on reddit that Escher (given the minimal information about him in the book) could be from the Wachter family, and I really liked this idea. This is an alternative backstory of Escher, which is accompanied by my vision of both this character and the campaign. It's also intertwined with the backstory of the character I played. This work is written in the format of a series of memories about the childhood, adolescence, and formation of a boy who was sold by his parents to Ravenloft. About how he managed to survive. About what he learned. About his close acquaintance with a dark-haired fanged person. How he got his ring with roses and what it all led to in the end. There might be SPOILERS for the campaign and alternative history of Barovia becoming... Well, Barovia.

For being the object of so many men's obsession there is surprisingly little written about Tatyana and her life, especially before those brothers tangled her up in their life. This is a long form fic about her life. If you want to see the perspective of a woman who grew up during a war, lost her family, found purpose, and complicated relationships that changed the course of a kingdom this is the fic for you.
As a Curse of Strahd DM I changed the major characterization for my Tatyana and the nature of her relationship with the von Zarovich brothers. This is the lore I used in my game.
I wanted it to be a tragedy that all could have been avoided if they made different choices but that would require them all to be different people.It still ends the same way as the original Cannon with Strahd killing Sergei and Tatyana falling over the outlook, but the journey is very different.

They stumbled, half-asleep through these portals into the Shadowfell, a dimension that does not let go of its inhabitants easily. She is not quite sure she has what it takes to rule the country and finds her mental stability faltering more and more as the days go on. Her closest allies, best friend Ismark and girlfriend Ez, help her stay grounded as she begins to falter under the pressure.
