    “My name I mean, my name is Flippa. Or that’s what—” she cut herself off, swallowing. “My full name is Juanaflippa but some people called me Flippa for short,” she explained.

    “Alright then, Flippa,” Charlie nodded, the name feeling right on his tongue. “Are you ready to get out of this place?”

    To the viewers, the escape had to have been quick, unplanned, anticlimactic.

     

    To them however?

     

    It was everything.

     

    Ranboo and six other "actors" from Showfall Media find a way out from where they're kept between shows, and in a last effort to fully escape, jump on an abandoned train. They find themselves on an island with a community--not all of which are humans--who are eager to accept them and are happy to see Charlie "home".

    A story about recovery, finding friends, and making families from anything but blood.

    Sneeg, even in the dark, looks beat all to hell. There’s blood all over his hoodie, matted in the ends of his hair; he’s clutching at a wound on his shoulder that looks to be the cause of it.

    “Holy shit, Charlie-”

    They stumble into each other in a painful imitation of a hug that mostly includes Charlie trying not to bang the giant bloody wound on Sneeg’s left shoulder with his head and Sneeg sloppily slinging his free arm around Charlie’s shoulder, but they get the point across.

    “What happened, are you- where’d you go, where were you- holy shit, man,” Charlie babbles desperately into Sneeg’s chest before pulling back. “What happened to you?”

    “I tried to run, but that fucking- TV thing, it got me, I guess I passed out, I just remember waking up. I was trying to find you and Ranboo,” he responds, and keeps going before the voice starts again.

    “PLEASE, LET ME GO! LET ME GO!” the voice echoes, and Charlie’s heart just about stops as he slowly lifts his head up from Sneeg’s healthy shoulder.

    “Fuck,” he whispers distantly. “That’s where Ranboo went.”

    Showfall realized they had made a mistake when they killed off their hero. Sure, other people could put up a fight, but they had been working with Ranboo for so long that the viewers were used to them. So they went against the audience's wishes, revived him and put them through the wringer again.
    But something feels...Strange. The mask keeps malfunctioning no matter how often they fix it, re-wiring it isn't an option (unless they bust the hero's head open again) and the people Ranboo comes into contact with seem to be becoming more self-aware the more time they spend together.
    Ranboo's becoming a danger. But they can't kill him off, because the audience will be disappointed and they'll lose viewers.
    Leave the camera on.
    Wake up, Ranboo.

    “We’ll tell nobody. We’ll let them make their own conclusions about what happened to us.” Charlie softly reassured him as he gently worked through a particularly tangled clump of blood and some other mysterious substance stubbornly clinging to Ranboo’s hair.

    “We’ll get you home, Ranboo.” Charlie swore to them, “It’s over. You don’t have to be brave anymore. It’s okay.” Ranboo hesitated, before slowly pulling away, and Charlie could only let them.

    “You can’t go back either.” Ranboo called him out, and Charlie wavered, “Please.” Ranboo sounded devastated as he begged, “Please, Charlie. I can’t- I can’t lose you too…”

    Charlie forced a weak smile on his face, feeling a sort of disdainful irony as he held up his pinky to the other. “I pinky swear, I won’t go back there.”

    It was only when Ranboo wasn’t looking did Charlie drop the crossed fingers behind his back.

    (AKA: A "What-if" where Ranboo and Charlie escape Showfall and deal with the turbulent journey that comes with recovery all while trying to keep the horrible things which happened to them a secret for the sake of their own safety.)
