Summary
The chef possessed the same visceral bloodlust as most of her patrons, but she seemed to have a soft spot for Kite. The amount of time he had spent trying to figure out what made him so special wasn’t insignificant. Theories came and went, but one seemed more likely than the rest: she couldn’t quite figure him out, and that made him interesting. Neither of them had been socialized properly as children, but here, neither of them had to pretend that they were normal. They said what they wanted, and held back whatever they pleased.

Summary
As if any other evening, Wing brewed a fresh pot of tea, adding dried jasmine from one of the small travel sized jars left behind after hasty farewells even if it wasn't his own preference. He fed the cat. He watered the chrysanthemums and ignored the wilting vase of daffodils.
He sat in the darkening living room, heart beating in his head, waiting for the sound of keys turning, waiting for quiet steps coming to join him on the sofa. He waited for chilled and calloused fingers interlacing with his, for the downcast eyes and tight-lipped smiles he would never again see.
And as if any other night, he went to sleep pretending the most important person to him was still alive somewhere out there, inhaling and exhaling as he did.
He slept and did not write the letter as if that would breathe life into the dead.OR,
Wing writes a letter to a dead man, and he writes back. -

Summary
Spinner hasn’t known Kite very long. Certainly not as long as other Hunters, or even the Freecss kid. And Kite’s never made it easy. But she’s followed Kite, as a mentor, a teacher, a friend, for long enough, that she’s used to seeing a tall man with long white hair, a beacon of a direction through the fog and smoke.
Spinner isn’t sure when she got used to looking forward, looking up, and knowing Kite would be there. All she knows is now she has to look somewhere else.
The Amateur Hunters take a road trip so Gon can see the small-billed swans. Spinner tries to find her footing in a world that has shifted in ways that everyone else seems to have missed.

Summary
"I have to admit,” Kite said, “I thought it would be a good idea to split the teams, and see how much you could do apart from each other. But if I’d seen the synergy, I might have kept you together.”
“Thanks,” Killua said. This was normal, he and Gon were always attracting mentors who saw their potential together. They didn’t need the validation, but he’d often caught himself wondering, especially recently, what it would be like to continue that teamwork forever. What would it be like to always have a partner? Someone he could trust implicitly? Who would always be there for Killua, just like Killua was always there for him? It was a scary, but also an exhilarating thought…
***
