"In the pocket" can mean two things depending on the context:
1) Music - A perfect groove or rhythm in a song, especially when played by a group of musicians playing off of each other's energy.
2) Fighting - When a fighter stands within striking distance of someone, meaning they themselves are at risk of damage as well; a two-way danger zone.Life requires balance, an indiscernible rhythm to be observed in order to keep up with its unpredictable structure and melody. Life requires bravery, to throw oneself into the fire, knowing it is the only way things can change for the better.
How about a bizarre life, one rife with strange metaphysical phenomena and baggage? That requires much more things.

if Akira had to pinpoint the exact moment his life started going downhill, it certainly was the day he met Goro Akechi. things just kept happening. all the time. and, his life would have been much easier if he didn't have to juggle loving an assassin and saving the world (once or twice).
things, of course, only got worse when the love of his life (said assassin) kicked the bucket. briefly came back. kicked it again.

Goro Akechi was found alive in the boiler room of the Diet Building and was supposed to be charged a life sentence for the assassinations and psychotic breakdown incidents. (Un)fortunately for him, his defense attorney Mei Arisugawa isn't incompetent nor fuelled by money, so now his sentence has been reduced to a year of probation. But not without striking a deal to assist Mei and Maruki in uncovering the origins of the Metaverse for the sake of true justice - to properly atone for his crimes.
Things suddenly take a turn when out of nowhere, Metaverse becomes a place the masses of Tokyo can come and go whenever they want, summon Persona and fight Shadows. Whether this changes society for the better or the worst, no one knows. But what Goro knows is that there's a gap in his memories, that something, *someone* important is missing from his head.
